He took great care while cleaning my teeth not to jab the instrument into my gums. And he succeeded. I didn't get stabbed once! Even more importantly, he was VERY thorough. With my previous dentist, I was in the chair no more than 15 minutes. With Dr. Jacques, it was more like 45. I really appreciate the attention to detail that this translated into. I also was very pleased with the administrative side. I just called yesterday, assuming I wouldn't be able to get an appointment for at least a week. But there'd been a cancellation, so I was offered an appointment this morning. The woman I talked to then sent me several forms to complete. I did that, sent them back & received an acknowledgement just a few minutes later. Very efficient! This operation definitely gets

From my brief appointment with her yesterday, I could tell that she's the kind of medical practitioner that makes you want to become a long time patient. A solid 5 star dental professional. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk personnel left much to be desired. LaShandra gave me the feeling that she didn't want to be bothered with me. The tone in which she spoke to me on the phone before I ever made it into the office was curt, but then when I finally came in the office, I felt that her tone was even more demeaning. The whole time she spoke with me, she'd never make any eye contact. I'm hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and trying to hear when people have a mask on is very difficult and she seemed to not want to repeat anything and that she simply didn't have time. (Mind you, there's no one else in the waiting area, nor is the phone ringing during this time which I would've understood if she couldn't answer my questions at the moment due to other office obligations). Finally I asked her to give me a second to turn on my mic (I have a mic that connects directly to my hearing aids via Bluetooth to help me hear better. The last question (about insurance) I started to try and ask her before going into the room with the doctor, I was stopped abruptly by her saying that it was time to see the doctor so I guess that was her way of not answering the question. Growing up, my family didn't have a healthy dental routine of seeing dentists. As an adult, I'm dealing with the consequences of that and trying to create healthier dental habits moving forward. I was beyond excited to come to Capitol Family Dental since it's in my neighborhood and had so many phenomenal reviews. I had even convinced my husband to give them a shot potentially leaving his normal dentist and hygienist that he's been going to for 10+ years since Capitol Family Dentistry is in the neighborhood. But unfortunately, my experience speaking with LaShandra multiple times over the phone before I came in for my first appointment coupled with my in-person experience turned me off a bit. Moreover, when I'd ask questions, she'd make assumptions that she knew the reason behind my question and answered based on what she thought I needed to know instead of just answering my question which made the communication even more tense (not to mention, leaving me without the information I was trying to get). I mean, I'm in the dentist's office ON MY BIRTHDAY with a broken tooth. Definitely not how I want to start off the morning of my birthday but to be made to feel like you're not worth the time is just not a good experience. Not sure how to proceed but I may still be looking for a new dentist. I hate to give such a highly regarded dental practice 2 stars, but when the experience with front desk is such that it leaves you feeling like you don't want to come back and you're weighing to yourself whether or not to continue to subject yourself to this type of treatment, I think it warrants it. I couldn't do only 1 star because Dr. P was a gem. But what good are great doctors when the staff makes you feel like trash before you even get to meet them?

So I began thinking that it might be time to explore some dentists downtown that are closer to where I live. As I was taking a close look at my teeth recently, I thought it might be time for my first in office teeth whitening session. At my other dentists' office, they only offered a take home kit with trays for a couple hundred dollars and other than that, I have only tested out Crest White Strips. However, as a coffee drinker I felt it was time for something I little more impactful. So I filled out the inquiry form online for Smile Beautiful and received a call back a day or two later to set up an appointment and ask a few questions about the process. A week later I was in the office for my appointment. I was told the process takes about two hours which includes the basic exam to ensure you're a good candidate, taking pictures, and four consecutive, 20 min sessions for application. While that's pretty accurate, I would suggest buffering in a little extra time if you're a new patient since you will need to fill out new patient forms upon arrival. Everyone I encountered here was so nice, welcoming and professional. Dr. Dan Jones was personable, funny and helped to explain anything to be mindful of. He was thorough but also very caring. It was a good opportunity to get a sense of what my experience might be if I were to return as an on-going patient. I can't remember the name of the person that worked through the pictures, prep and application with me but she was a gem as well. I'm so glad that they take before and after picture because at first, the whitening may not look as dramatic as you might think. But when you take a closer look at the palette of teeth shades to see where you started to where you ended, it's much more dramatic than what may fool the subtle eye. A bit of tooth sensitivity might take place for the day after, but they provided me a topical that could help if I had any discomfort. After a day, I really didn't experience additional sensitivity. I'll be returning this week for a follow-up appointment and to pick up my additional teeth whitening trays that come with the service, but overall I'm very pleased and pleasantly surprised by how great the folks are at Smile Dental! Thanks so much for helping to make my smile just a tad brighter!

Look for dental care elsewhere…read more Dr. Dan Jones touts his years of experience, however the quality of the work that he and the office does is very poor and riddled with errors. He goes to great lengths to deflect and cover up the poor work performed rather than seeking the actual source of the problem and taking appropriate corrective action. Furthermore, he consistently makes unprofessional and disrespectful comments. All-around, a terrible dental office. Stay away.

There are local magazines in the waiting room. The wait wasn't long at all. Once inside the dentist room, India took photos of my teeth from all angles. She was very personable and professional. She explained the why behind all the photos. It was painless! Dr. Coley then came in to check my teeth and clean them. She also explained everything to me in a way I could understand. It was the right balance of talking and just sitting there as she cleaned my teeth. She is very smart and nice! 2) Space: It's a small dentist office, but one with great history. It's Dr. Coley's father-in-law's dentist office for the last four decades. He collects artifacts, which are displayed throughout. There's a dentist chair more than 100 years old, antique maps of D.C. and Philadelphia, a dentist puppet, and even a Civil War cannon as a door stop. Chris at the front desk said it's like "going to the dentist in a museum." It's so true and the historian in me loved it! 3) Area: It's on Capitol Hill very close to H Street NE and Stanton Park. Easy two-hour parking is accessible out front. If you need a quality dentist, book an appointment at Stanton Park Dental!

What should have been a standard preventive cleaning turned into a painful and unnecessarily aggressive experience. During the procedure, there was significant pain and excessive bleeding, far beyond what is normal for a routine cleaning. Even more concerning, one of the fillings in my molar was pulled out during the cleaning, something that has never happened to me in any prior dental visit. At no point was there a clear explanation for the level of force being used, nor was my discomfort adequately addressed during the appointment. A routine dental cleaning should not result in pain, heavy bleeding, or damage to existing dental work. I have had many cleanings over the years, and this was by far the most uncomfortable and poorly handled experience. Based on what happened, I genuinely don't understand how this practice maintains such high ratings. Patients should not be expected to accept this level of care as normal. I would not return or recommend this office based on my experience.
