I'm new to Austin so it can be challenging to find a provider you feel comfortable with, especially…read moreif it is going to involve surgery. I moved here from CA and I knew plenty of Orthopedic surgeons and had considered even flying back out there. But a good friend highly recommended Dr. John Paul Rodriguez so I decided to give it a try. I had never had a knee problem but after my first visit, and imaging, it was determined I had a meniscal tear. The pain was pretty bad but I was able to walk with some assistance. When I met with Dr. Rodriguez again, he gave me a choice of surgery or waiting it out. Initially, wanting this to go away sooner, I opted for surgery. But as we were getting into scheduling the surgery, I had decided to wait it out and see if it would get better. After a full year, my knee pain had significantly improved, but I could still feel what I could only guess was the tear. It was worse with certain activities and it was starting to limit what I normally was able to do. So, after a year of conservative treatment, I decided to revisit Dr. Rodriguez. Something I really appreciated is they didn't make me start all over from square one. We essentially picked up where I had left things. I felt I did as much as I could to give the knee a chance to heal if it was going to but realized this was basically as good as it was going to get non-surgically. Dr. Rodriguez really listened to me and ultimately we agreed to go ahead with the surgery. A special thanks goes out to Madison Gaul, Dr. Rodriguez's surgery scheduler. She was exceptionally helpful in getting me scheduled on a date and time that worked for me. She was very clear about everything I needed in order to get clearance for the surgery and very accommodating with the scheduling. The day of the surgery could not have been more uneventful. I had surgery at their surgery center and everyone involved was very nice and did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable. I blinked my eyes and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. They had already called the person who was going to give me a ride and as soon as I was a bit more alert, I was able to leave. Post-operatively I really didn't know what to expect with respect to pain. I will call it "Tylenol" or "Ibuprofen" pain because that was all I needed that first night. My leg was wrapped in a compression dressing that I needed to leave on for 10 days until my next visit. And during the ten days, I was able to bear weight and didn't even need the crutches I had and never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen. At my first post-op appointment, all was well. They removed the sutures and addressed all of my questions which were primarily about when I could resume bike riding. It has been just a little over six months and I cannot say enough good things about this practice and Dr. Rodriguez. My knee feels so great, I often forget I had surgery this year. I don't regret taking the year to see if it would get better, but I am so happy I had the surgery. I am back to riding my bike 10 - 20 miles a day and have even done some long 30 mile rides. I have not needed to even take an ibuprofen in more than four months and my knee feels as great as the uninjured knee.

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Texas Orthopedics, particularly with Dr. Atilla…read moreOnan and his staff. Between the scheduling errors, lack of communication, and dismissive follow-up appointment, I left feeling that my time, concerns, and ongoing pain were of little importance. During my initial appointment, Dr. Onan ordered both cervical and thoracic MRIs. The original imaging facility couldn't schedule me for three weeks, so I contacted his office to see whether I could have the studies completed sooner. His staff arranged for me to have the imaging performed at their facility that same week. However, the day before my appointment, I received a call informing me that the cervical MRI had not been authorized because the staff member responsible had forgotten to request approval when scheduling the thoracic MRI. I explained that I needed both studies, particularly given the severity of my symptoms. Instead, I was left with the prospect of obtaining another authorization, scheduling another appointment, making another three-hour drive, and paying additional copays and deductible expenses, all because of an administrative oversight. At my follow-up appointment, I explained these circumstances to Dr. Onan. Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience or offering a reasonable solution, he simply reiterated that the cervical MRI was still needed. There appeared to be little concern for the additional burden his office's mistake had created. What disappointed me most was the follow-up consultation itself. Dr. Onan appeared unfamiliar with my previous visit and the symptoms I had discussed. He briefly reviewed the MRI summary, stated that surgery was not indicated and therefore there was nothing for him to do, and asked whether I had any questions. That was essentially the extent of the appointment. I understand that not every orthopedic condition requires surgery, and I certainly wasn't seeking an unnecessary procedure. I was seeking a thorough evaluation, an explanation of my symptoms, and some direction toward identifying the cause of my ongoing pain. Instead, I received what felt like a rushed dismissal, with no meaningful discussion of alternative treatment options or next steps. Patients invest considerable time and money seeking specialized medical care, often while dealing with significant pain. At a minimum, they deserve attentive communication, competent scheduling, and a physician who takes the time to understand their concerns. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Texas Orthopedics or Dr. Onan. I would not recommend this practice based on the care and service I received.

RunLab fixed ITBS injury that lasted more than a year!…read more The whole 2021 I tried to recover from a left knee ITBS: X-ray, MRI, corticoid injection, physical therapy (at another place in town), multiple workout ramp ups and relapses... It was frustrating and I wasn't happy. In just 4 months working with RunLab they fixed it for good, and now I am even a better runner. The major difference at RunLab over other places in town is their gait analysis. Instead of just doing some mobility tests on a bench and prescribe some strength routine, they start by having you on a treadmill and record your running. Dr. Love treated me from the beginning and this gait analysis was the key: they found left leg cross-over, almost backward leaning, and too low of a stride. No wonder why I was relapsing every time! Dr. Love taught me drills to fix all those form defects, strengthening and activations exercises and worked on soft tissue. We started by having twice per week appointments, which was perfect: one day working on running technique and another day to work on soft tissue. Plus, he gave me a plan on how long and what to focus on when running by myself. I just saw improvement from there. First I could fix the cross-over, then managed to improve forward leaning and the one that took more time was picking up my knees up and forward on my stride. Dr. Halasz also had good input on the last one. And this is a good thing about RunLab, you don't just work with one of their doctors, but all of them are available and can be up to date on your process and help when needed. I must give a huge shoutout to Dr. Love. He ended my year long frustration with this injury, and now I can start planning for races again, and with an improved running form that I can already see allows me to run easier and faster. Plus, the appointments with Dr. Love were something I looked forward too. Not only he had analytical thinking and great insights but he was also fun and friendly to talk with so those appointments were a pleasure to go to. Many running injuries come from overuse on less than perfect running form. And in those cases, RunLab makes the difference for me over other places in town. Plus, now I am not only healed but also a better runner. 100% recommended.

Medical doctors generally have exactly two tools in their toolbox, drugs and surgery, because that's usually all they're taught in med school. Chiropractic doctors go beyond that with various other tools, most notably direct physical manipulation. The experience of both my wife and I has been that chiropractic doctors are more knowledgeable, more concerned with our well-being, and more successful in treating orthopedic pain than medical doctors. That's certainly true in this clinic. In particular, Dr. Arbuckle has been exceptional in helping my wife with her pain. After a medical doctor didn't help her, I suggested Dr. Arbuckle whom I'd seen myself, on the basis of "it couldn't hurt to try". Since then I can't count how many times she's thanked my for suggesting she go, because Dr. Arbuckle has really been helping her.

He went over the pros and cons of both procedures. My sister was scared, scared about the surgery, the healing process, what the scar would look like, how well she would recover. Lots and lots of concerns however Dr. Brotzman once again went over the process and gave some reassurance. On the day of the surgery, she surprised herself that she was up and walking. He stressed the importance of her taking it easy at first, doing the exercises at home and then following up with PT. As her caretaker I was concerned about her doing too much too quickly, however she healed very well. She did great at PT and her exact words were "I wish I had done this a lot sooner. Had I known it wasn't going to be as bad as I made it out to be, I wouldn't have waited as long as I did". Her scar is minimal and she's extremely happy with Dr. Brotzman and his team.

I have been going to PW since 2014 and have nothing but great things to say about their office…read more First, you will always be greeted by warm smiles from the front desk. The ladies up here are such an essential part to why this office flows so smoothly at each visit. They are patience and always take the time to answer any of my questions, and if they don't have the answer, they are willing to find it and get back to you. As for the doctors, I have seen them all; Dr. Sellers, Dr. Shaner, and Dr. Olson, however this review is for Dr. Olson, due to being his ongoing patient. I have been a chiropractic patient for over 6 years, and go for adjustments more on maintenance plan. He always recommends a specific plan, especially when I have any flareups. He is very thorough with the initial evaluation, and every visit after that. He listens to my complaints, and can typically find discomfort that I don't mention. If you follow his treatment plans and, work on your exercises and therapy I guarantee you will feel better in good time. He is very knowledgeable, and truly cares about his patients. If I happen to miss an appointment, or have a new injury, he is very accommodating with his schedule and gets me in immediately. I also appreciate that if I don't make it in for a good amount of time, he will call or send a text to see how I am doing. I always refer him to anyone who has any kind of issues (chiropractic) that I think he can work through. Working on your exercises are essential to getting better, and with the crew they have working with you, you'll stay motivated to keep doing them. Dan will have you laughing to the point you don't even realize you are doing stretches and exercises. All the techs are great and very knowledgable, and hearing they make you do exercises can be intimidating, but don't let that stop you, they modify for your comfort. And for one of my favorite reasons I continue to keep going to Performance Wellness are their massage therapist. I have had some of the best massages, and feel that the therapist are a huge part of me being able to stay on a maintenance plan with the doctors. From my most recent encounters, this review will be for Melissa Levin and Nicole Poole. To start, I can't get enough massages, and Melissa Levin is an amazing therapist. I've seen her for specific issues, and every time she addressed them and worked on those areas, I've noticed immediate relief. She is very in-tuned with her techniques and her clients. She is professional and at times I go in with wanting her to figure out what kind of massage my body needs, and she is very good at reading that. Nicole is just as great, and her hours work well for needing late evening times. She has such a soft tone to her voice which relaxes me, and her touch is the same. Be open with her so she can address your problem areas. Both therapist will ask what part of the body you want them to work on, so be open with them so they can address your issues. If they happen to notice you're tighter in certain areas, they will work through it all while educating you, and giving you advise on how to work on it at home. You might not realize, but they communicate with your doctor to make sure they are addressing your problem areas, which is great because as a whole, the entire office cares about your health and getting you better with their care.

Taylor Lackey is professional, knowledgeable, and very well manages his time. Most of my visits, I have be able to see him in just 5 minutes. Only one time that I needed to wait about half an hour. Overall never a very long wait. Dr. Lackey well planed and it really helped saving patients' time. When he knew the reasons of my visit, he ordered me for an x-ray in prior to see him, and he told me that I could call to get an MRI order without the need to go to his office again. I have seen Dr. Lackey for my tennis and golf elbows, my dislocated tendon at my pinky finger, and lately a lump at my inner elbow. He is very attentive and provided me with the necessary physical therapy and medication. Claudia, Dr. Lackey's Medical Assistant, has been very kind, considerate, and attentive. She has tried her best to coordinate the doctor's orders and the x-ray unit in order to make it as fast and effective as possible. She has gone over everything slowly to make sure I understand everything right. Maybe the clinic has been too busy lately causing me a hard time reaching her. I left 2 voice messages and have been waiting over 48 hours, but never got a call back. I needed to leave the 3rd message before getting a call back causing me almost unable to get my MRI scheduled before my long trip. The front desk ladies or the scheduling ladies are very nice, always very helpful and are excellent at their jobs! When she knew I couldn't get a schedule at Austin Sports Medicine Lab, she recommended me 3 other labs in Austin and the near by areas and fax out my MRI order to all other labs right away. Finally, I could get my MRI scheduled on the last day before my traveling. I have experienced some difficulty at the x-ray unit inside Austin Sports Medicine. I have had conditions at both of my arms, but the x-ray technologist did the x-ray only one of my arms. I told him right away, but he refused to check even if I asked him politely and more than one time. When Claudia found out, she talked to the technologist and asked him to do the x-ray again for my another arm. Instead of fixing the mistake and having me next in line, he seemed upset and put me the last in line! And this time I waited over 30-40 minutes and still couldn't get an x-ray. Ended up Claudia told me that Dr. Lackey would pull my old x-ray for my another arm, so I didn't need to wait longer. I just wish the technologist was cared to listen to patients and spent a little time double check things. It could help prevent the mistakes from happening and save a large a mount of time for both patients and himself. In Sum: I highly recommend Austin Sports Medicine and Dr J. Taylor Lackey!
