I had a brief consult with Trinh before I scheduled my appointment. I was impressed that she was "right on" about what was wrong with my previous haircut. At my appointment, we discussed the length of my hair and let Trinh know that I liked it on the longer side, not above my chin. I had a lot of new growth since starting hair vitamins, but I clearly didn't want my hair cut down to the new growth or anywhere near! Trinh is very quick, seemingly implusive with her "snipping", THEN she says, "I have to check my cut." More snipping. I didn't feel Trinh was focused on my haircut, frequently responding to conversations going on with other staff. I paid $120 for a Deva cut - my hair is fine and a bit thin, so I was charged the lowest price for the Deva cut. Trinh said "my haircuts last for 4 months." I can see why. It will take 4 months for my hair to grow to a length that I like. Trinh was very nice and took a lot of time teaching me how to use Deva products and was constantly "checking the cut" but kept on snipping. In the past, I have often left with a Deva cut that was frizzy. My hair was not frizzy when I left the salon. That's the best I can say about my experience and that the shampoo assistant did a very nice job. read more

Would not recommend, especially Stephen/Steven (?). Ruined my hair for my engagement pics and then when I tried to schedule a curly stylist for my wedding (a simple curly updo), they changed my stylist to Stephen last minute because he "is better with updos" and he did an atrocious job once again! Globs of dried hairspray, not the style I asked for, frizzy/did nothing with my curls and randomly barrel-curled two pieces in the back. Terrible. Thank goodness my cousin that does hair (not familiar working with curly hair but still did an incredible job) stepped in and redid my hair before the ceremony. Will not be going back. It's a shame because all the stylists there are so lovely and kind. Gave them three chances, but not for me. Super disappointed. read more

I inadvertently ended up at Capelli ... and I'm glad I did! Relatively new to the area, I was exploring Narberth and noticed Capelli. I think it said "Curly Hair Specialists" in the window. (I have curly hair!) A woman with the most beautiful curls was chatting outside with a colleague. I stopped. We talked. And that's how I met Stacie, who's now my stylist! Stacie gave me an excellent haircut, and came up with a great solution for a color dilemma I've been having. She's friendly, engaging and talented, a winning combination of traits. I struck up conversation with one of Stacie's clients who mentioned she followed her to various salons over a twenty-year period. If that's not testimony, I don't know what is! The people who work there seem awfully nice. (I'm surprised some people said otherwise.) Clients range in age, and frankly everyone I've seen leaving the salon looks great. read more

One big mistake. The worst haircut and color I have ever gotten. I paid $280 for curly cut and front hair highlights. The products she had used for my curls gave me scalp irritation, so I had to wash my hair. Then I realized my hair was butchered, randomly cut pieces of hair, it absolutely looks awful, uneven and unmanageable. The so-called highlights are nothing like highlights just a blend in color. I was charged for full head highlights even though I only had partial done. I will not be back and do not recommend. I do not usually write bad reviews, but I felt I had to. read more

"Magic fingers!" That's what I tell Trinh she has because as soon as I sit down, she plucks my curls and they look better. I am always satisfied with Trinh's cuts. Sometimes the cuts may be a little short or a little long, but they have a flattering shape. Best of all, Trinh's cuts hold their shape and I do not need frequent cuts. Update: I received a call pretty quickly after posting the review. We scheduled another appointment, this time with Trinh. She was attentive & explained everything she was doing as she fixed the layers to even it out on both sides. She made sure I was given time to look at my hair & to touch it, shake it about. As I've said previously, I think this salon is nice & comfortable. Trinh is really wonderful. I just wish I didn't have the initial experience I did. I think there are wonderful people here who do their best to make sure the finished result is as clients would like it. So, as with anything, try it out & if it works for you then great! I'm glad I returned to have my hair fixed & was in the company of people who care about their work & their clients. Update: After about 2 weeks of living in this haircut I'm not convinced. What was suppose to be face framing layers became overly layered & I lost so much length in the front when I just let my hair drape without pulling everything towards the front. Yes it got "evened out" I'll give them the 5/5 for customer service. But it still doesn't feel great honestly because it doesn't feel great not styled & I'm still pretty uncomfortable. I think I'm going to have it chopped & not maintain the length because the front is shorter & it looks like I have a choppy bob in the front & long hair in the back. I just need to go back to my usual person & accept the longer commute to get there. I tried, but I'm not convinced. The work was technically done, but there's just something missing about it maybe it's an eye for what works for the hair type, shape, lines, flow? The person that picked up the phone was incredibly rude and started yelling at me. He said that charge for consultation and I asked for a few minutes to think about if I still wanted to make the appointment here, to which he told me that it was a "hassle". A 6 minute call that left me crying. Later I called back asking to speak to the manager to explain my prospective new client experience ... only to find out that the unruly sales person taking out their anger on me was the manager. The manager had someone else call to make "amends" and they offered to waive my consultation fee. Kalanit Patsko, who was my stylist at Rae & Co. salon in Ardmore, is now working at this salon on a charming little street in Narberth. It was like discovering an extra $1000 in my checking account to find her again. When she left Rae & Co., I was told 'we don't know where she is now or where she's working." Total fiction. If you are a former client of hers when she was at Rae & Co.-run, don't walk, to her at Capelli Salon. Kalanit is a DevaCurl Certified stylist and this woman is a magic maker with scissors. She is sweetly courteous, has a keen sense of aesthetics, the sensibility of an artist, she listens to what you need and want as far as your hair, your lifestyle and your ability to style (or not style) and above all she is gentle and non-judgemental. For decades I kept my head almost shaved because once I left Southern CA, I could not find a stylist willing to work with me and my quirky hair needs. I got one dry cut in Stanford, CA and after that heinous hack, I was leery of having anyone touch my hair, wet or dry, and spent a long time wearing hats, buns and 80s rocker bandanas to hide the disreputatable state of my locks. Kalanit works with extreme focus on your hair and sees you as a whole person, not just a 'head' but having her give a cut is not a silent, tense, high drama experience. If asked, she will give you a straight and honest opinion about your hair (cut as well as color) and she is straight forward without being abrasive, snarky or even remotely rude. She's a traveler, a gourmand and an all 'round bon vivant so conversation is continuously lively and there's always a lot of laughter. While she is in total scissor control, she will still ask your permission before using any hair spray, fluffing (or 'opening,' as she calls it) your hair and your comfort and well being are always first with her. She does not ever push products. I loved that the first time she styled my hugely unkempt mane because the DevaCurl line makes my head itch to the point where I have wanted to rip my scalp off. Kalanit's cuts actually even look good wet and when air dried or diffused, for me it's almost like the late Richard Avedon blessed my scalp and strands with a magic wand that makes me look still like me yet somehow so much better. Her cuts grow out as nicely as when I first leave her chair, which initially tempted me to go longer than every 3 months between appointments. Nope. Bad move. The salon itself is comfortable, airy, open and clean. Nothing about it calls attention to itself but it conveys a sense of welcome and spaciousness. It's not trendy, it's not kitschy. More than anything, I'd say it's timelessly classic. Everyone who works there is quite pleasant without trying to act like your new best friend. Yes, a Deva cut IS more costly than going to SuperCuts or your local wash and hack salon, but if you average the cost out over just 3 or 4 visits/cuts per year, and the satisfying feeling of looking fantastic no matter what stage of grow out you're in, the cuts are a solid bargain. Take it from me; you can hide a lot of things about your appearance-lack of a six pack, skinny legs, a flat butt, a concave chest, spaghetti strand upper arms, ears that stick out-but it's pretty damn hard to hide your unflattering, badly cut hair day in and day out, especially if you work in the public or corporate sector. Kalanit cares that your hair is out in the world, representing her and Capelli Salon. You will never leave her chair looking like your room mate cut your hair PLUS your hair will look just as good on days two, ten, and twenty as it did on day one of the cut. I had been looking to get a DevaCurl haircut for years and finally decided to treat myself to one for my birthday this past November. After looking at the reviews of countless salons I chose this salon because of the great reviews I saw online and I was not disappointed! The haircut I received from Trinh was beautiful and exactly the length I wanted. She added layers to my hair and gave my curls exactly what they needed flourish. Trinh went over different styling techniques and helped ensure that I could create the same or similar looks at home. My only negative comment is I think a little less gel could have been used when styling it. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing as it wasn't a problem when I washed my hair and the overall look was great, it was just a preference for me. Everyone from the person who washed my hair to the receptionist was friendly and willing to answer any questions I might have had. I recently read an article on blackgirllonghair about the "deva cut." I was intrigued because the woman in the article had hair very similar to mine in her before picture (mostly curly with some straight ends) and had the hair I coveted in her after picture (a head full of shiny, defined curls with little to no frizz). I toyed with the idea of going up to NYC to the Devachon salon but did some research and learned that Capelli had stylists who were certified in the technique. I called to make my appointment, explained my hair issues and Sharrelle recommended Donna. I'd read reviews where Donna was mentioned positively so I thought I'd be in good hands. (A black girl having a non black girl do her hair is EPIC). At check in, Marie was very friendly and made me feel welcome immediately. Donna was AMAZING. She brought a whole new life to my curls. She also took the time to explain how to style my hair, taught me about products (and diffusing - I don't own a blow drier) and patiently answered my gazillion questions. I LOVE my hair. So much so I tipped more than 20% and bought all the products. What I loved most about Donna was that she was patient enough to teach me. She even said I should only need to come back for a cut in another 6 months or so and could call with any questions. I typically wear my hair curly in the summer and straight (blow dry & flat iron 2X/month) in the winter but based on what I learned from Donna I should be able to straighten less which will only improve the overall health of my hair. If you're looking for someone who knows how to work with curly hair, go see Donna! Very disappointed - I had a 2pm appointment today as a first time client and they called at around 9:45 today to ask if I could come in at 1 or 1:30. I said I can come at 1pm and rearranged my schedule a bit. I arrive promptly at 1pm and waited 20 mins before letting them know I was walking out due to the wait, particularly since I accommodated their request to come in early.
