I got checked in for angina related symptoms. ER was ok, but waited 6 hours before I saw a cardiologist. All the nurses were great except "JESSICA". One incompetent @#$#@ nurse. I called her with the beeper thing, after an hour I had to get up and go to the nurses station to find out why no nurse replied, and she playing games on the computer. I asked to see a doctor, denied. I asked to get checked out, that took her 3 hours to do. I wouldn't let that nurse take care of my dog. Cape Cod hospital can bite me. I will never go back. I would get better care at any CVS store. read more

I was in the ER twice in 3 days late in February. The first visit was a wash...don't know if I got worse because I was under-treated or just got worse (hives). By Monday afternoon, I was back again...being rehydrated, tested from head to toe....the doctor was great and so was the nursing staff (the receptionist was a bit chilly and clueless upon first arrival). I have to say if I could be assured of the same staff anytime I or my family needed the ER, I'd go for 5 stars! read more

Billing department is completely unprofessional and rude. People who work there don't know how to communicate between each other and don't know how to resolve problems created by themselves. They don't have a clue what they are doing. The receptionist doesn't answer the phone. If you leave a voicemail they would never call you back. It is just horrible. Both myself and various family members have received surgical and/or medical care from Cape Cod Hospital over the past few years. Absolutely superb care was given to each of us, whether it was through the ED or on the in-patient floors. The nursing and medical staffs were excellent: attentive, obviously knowledgeable, and caring. CT scans, MRIs, and radiology studies were completed quickly and effortlessly. I had to go to Cape Cod Hospital at 3am this week with severe pain in my lower left side. I was in agony! The team in the ER quickly jumped into action, determining it was likely kidney stones. They ran various tests, gave me fluids, pain killers, blood work, urine analysis, and a CT scan of the area where the pain was located. All between 3am and 5am. Their care helped me feel better and leave the hospital at 6am. The staff was wonderful. Experienced, thoughtful, attentive, and action oriented. They communicated what they were doing and why. They gave me very clear instructions for follow up. I was very impressed! Also, the hospital is modern, clean, bright and welcoming. The ER area is surprisingly large for a community hospital. I almost did not go here (I am on the Cape vacationing) given some of the reviews on yelp. But, given how severe my pain was, I needed the closest place. My experience was much different than what others wrote on their reviews. I will comfortably use this hospital again if I am on the Cape in the future and need urgent care. Zero hesitation. In the past 3 months I've had 2 family members in your hospital and the patient care and treatment was the worse I've ever encountered. Your hospital is only about padding the $$$ to make revenue. My sister was terminal lung cancer. She came to your hospital suffering terrible and in so much pain. She was dying. I flew up to be with her and found her care terrible. She was in so much pain and the staff was barely medicating her. When they did they made her wait 1 -2 hours past when she could be re medicated. She wasn't allowed any liquids and as her mouth dried out I was the only one to swab her. I told her doctors that I wanted her to receive more pain medication even if it put her in a coma. She was so sick and suffering. It took over 30 hours to increase her meds. Her doctor came into her room and coldly told her there was nothing further he could do for her that she had lost her battle. I wanted to punch him in the face. I looked into my sisters eyes as he said this to her and saw her fear. There were test after performed on her when they knew she was going to die within hours. It was all to pad the hospitals pocket. Your care of my sister was terrible. Because she was dying no one cared!! My elderly mother was brought in after falling. I called the hospital and asked the ER nurse to have the attending doctor please call me after running tests and let me know her status. Mother confirmed to the nurses and doctor to telephone me. I live in Florida. In three days I never received one call back from any doctor. They told me my mothers fall and her not being able to walk was a pre-existing condition and the fall was not the cause. Mother is elderly but very active after having both knees replaced and has never had any problem since her knees were done. She fell and couldn't put any pressure on her leg. I was told by one case worker they thought she had loosened the knee device or had a fracture under it they can't see. She also told me a team of doctors would come in to see her to assess her case and determine treatment. I was told they'd be in that night to speak with her. No team of doctors ever came into her room.This was on the weekend. The next case worker called me the following day to tell me she couldn't stay more than 3 days in the hospital and wasn't eligable for rehab or a nursing home so they were going to send her home unable to stand on her leg and walk. I was wild. This 86 year old woman fell and nobody wanted to help her because it wasn't profitable enough for the hospital. I was told she didn't qualify for rehab because she had medicare and blue cross blue. They wouldn't pay for it. I told the case worker this was BS and that her hospital wasn't giving my mother quality care. I told her I would fly up and come to the hospital with a lawyer. I also would contact the news media to do a story. The next day mother was transferred by ambulance to the rehab hospital I was told wouldn't take her??????? read more

We were on vacation and my wife, who is a diabetic got very ill. We drove to the ER and explained the problem and our thought she had Diabetic Ketoacidosis. We told the admitting nurse who took quickly her back to a room. We had several RNs and techs gather information,blood, ekg etc. They immediately started an IV drip of fluids. Soon the ER Doctor came in, discussed the issues, ordered some more tests. That night, after we met the attending endocrinologist, she was admitted. The next morning a local endo came by the room and discussed the issues, made changes to her then insulin drip and gave instructions to get back on the insulin pump the next morning. The nurses were diligent in getting blood sugars every 4 hours and following with the doctor. While this sounds normal, we've had enough experience to know it is not run of the mill care and were very impressed by 1. The nursing care, 2. the attention given by the Doctors 3. the overall cleanliness of the Hospital. read more

We call Cape Cod Hospital : HOTEL CALIFORNIA..like the song. Once in ..you will go out feet first. My sister 72 had knee surgery, suffered headaches after, was told takeTylenol and go home. Next morning full body stroke.To ER where they did not provide any treatment..delayed MRI to find the clot due to the knee surgery/metal issue, Did not administer clot meds..and 12 hours later she died on her way to Ma Gen late at night.. No care when there and they were rude nurses, and no doctors showed up. NEGLIGENCE big time..needless death. Next: Mother in Law, age 87, three weeks ago. Went in to ER for possible heart/mini stroke issues. Was in good health and didn't want to go. 4 different diagnosis and treatment, with the last doctor saying..just atypical pnemonia...antiobiotics/she will be find and go home. No meds were given, no heart monitor, nasty nurses beyond belief, and she died in 4 hours from overmedication of prior diagnosis. If you want die, just go to Cape Cod Hospital...they will ensure you never leave alive. HORRIBLE place. Caveat emptor.. read more

The Radiology Department is in for gold stars today. They do X-rays, Ultrasound and Paracentesis as well as coordinate all the necessary pre-procedure needs such as blood labs. We had a sudden and unexpected need for services and the staff was phenomenal. Although booked solid, they arranged an opening and we happily spent most of the afternoon in their good care. We started at the reception window where the same two employees we have known for years were offering a warm greeting that was businesslike and expeditious. The Reception Manager is amazingly efficient. She frequently leaves her glassed in area to bring information to waiting patients making sure they or their caregiver understand how long they are likely to wait and what they might need to do. Long-term employee retention in these stressful positions is always a sign of excellent management and a well-run institution. The technical staff is the best medical team in New England. They are conscientious, professional, and always embrace you as a person. The Radiological staff achieves excellence wherever they interface with a patient or with a patient's caregiver. We have also found the ER to be remarkable for a complicated, intense, over-burdened, ready-for-anything department. The life-saving work they do as a matter of routine, never asking or expecting thanks, is astounding. A couple of years ago we were released from the Emergency Room at 2 a.m. They advised us not to drive but to return for our car at our convenience. They notified security so our car could be flagged and kept for our return. They had a taxi waiting at the door to take us home. Our experiences with over-night hospitalization have also been first rate. Yes, during times of serious illness we have had our issues with a nursing shift or two but the care overall has been as good as it gets. My husband had had pneumonia and was getting sicker on the antibiotic. I roll him the ER on a Friday morning and waited unto 3:45 when the infectious disease specialist came in. We requested a ct sCan of his chest due to the difficulty he had breathing. Both The specialist and Er. Dr. Said the scan was not necessary, he had pneumonia and would get better with a new antibiotic. Against my better judgement I listended to the Dr.s and took him home. By 8:00 the next morning his temp had risen two degrees in an hour and his oxygen rate had dropped to 78. I rushed him back to the er only to greeted by a nasty dr. Who reminded me thAt " you were just here yesterday and it takes a while to get better" I demanded a ct scan and once they did it they found a massive pulmonary embolism that was Locking both sides of my husbands lungs. He was placed in Icu and the nurses there were incredible but poor doctoring continued. The hospital uses " hospitalists" which in sum are Dr.'s that no a little bit about everything but very few are specialized. I was so concerned about my husbands breathing that I requested a pulmonary consult every day for over a week. As my husband got weaker and was approaching congestive heart failure I demanded to see the head of the hospital and had his dR.s at home call as well. A pulmonologist came in that day and determined that my husband not only had the blood clot but pneuomcystic pneumonia as well. He was actually dieing because they had taken him off the antibiotic on e they discovered the blood clot. The pulmonologist immediately ordered high dose steroids and heavy duty antibiotics. By the next day my husband was weak but getting better. If I had not demanded this consult he would have died. What we learned from the awful ordeal is that the nurses are great but the dr.s are arrogant and incompetent. If somone you love gets seriously I'll have the sent to Boston Immediately it may save their lives. read more

I had hip surgery September 19, 2011 and I had decided on Cape Cod Hospital for my stay, i preferred not to have it done on Nantucket, no offense, but the island is just too small and I thought it would be better in Hyannis. I was right, I felt good during my stay, I had great nurses, and aides, all except this one night nurse, but i laughed it off and just said not everyone can be great. For the most part i enjoyed my stay, if you can say such a thing, and healing was a better process for me, i didnt know anyone there and that is what mattered to me, but i will say they were professional, kind and caring. I would definitely chose to go there again, being I had to have anything done and chosing a hospital that was close to where i resided mattered also for my family. All the depts i had to go to treated me with respect, radiology, labs, PT. I was amazed by the hospital itself, i have not been there in many years, i did not have a need to except when i chose where to have my surgery, and its one clean hospital, I noticed that immediately.. read more

Cape Cod Hospital is the worst hospital I have ever been to. I had my baby boy this April. Every new mom dreams about what it would be like having your baby. Its suppose to be a special time l, lets just say after it all was over I cried it was the worst experience of my life and I'm not talking about child birth. I was treated so badly. All together I had about 9 nurses and only two did there job right. My birth plan wasn't followed at all. I got the epidural thank god but when the baby came out the nurse cut the cord then took the baby which was not what I wanted at all. I could understand if something was wrong wit him but the baby was fine. On top of that there was a tear they left open ,so that night when I went to the bathroom I started to scream and the nurse told me I needed to calm down that I was exaggerating. Didn't even bother to check and see what was hurting me. When I tried breast feeding she was so rough she was hurting me pulling on me and when my baby was crying she kept shoving his face into me. When I asked her to take it easy she just said he needs to learn. Mind u he was only 4 hours old no need to be so ruff. I have heard alot of complaints about that lady but had no idea she was so bad. After giving birth my boyfriend and I had to take care of the baby we didn't receive help wit him. The said part is there weren't alot of woman there so I don't know why we didn't receive better care. I'm so happy my boyfriend is a CNA because I would of had an infection because the nurses did not stay on top of my catheter bag. Once it was so bad he took two trips to empty it. A half hour more and it would of back tracked into my bladder. In the end I had the option to stay another day and you best believe I said NO. I was better taking care of at home. I hate the experience I had if ever pregnant again or sick I will be going to Falmouth hospital or Boston I will never step foot there again. In the end all that matters is I have a beautiful healthy baby but neither I nor my son will be going there ever again. read more

I was recently discharged from CC Hospital after a one week stay in the cardiac care unit. The nurses are doing a yeoman's job under horrible conditions and being spread so thin that the place is an accident waiting to happen. When the CNA checked my blood sugar he said it was 122. Shortly thereafter, a nurse asked me if I had high blood sugars at home and said she was going to give me insulin. I asked her what my blood sugar was and she said 171. I told her it was 122 and she said she would check; later came back and told me it was her mistake. The bathroom sink was stopped up and although the plumber was called several times, it was still stopped up when I was discharged. On being admitted there was no towel or wash cloth in the bathroom. I asked for a clean johnny several times but wore the same johnny for 5 days before getting a clean one before surgery. Food orders that are supposed to be delivered within 45 minutes are more likely to take 90 minutes and one food order was delivered to the wrong room. The floors are seldom washed and there was a blood spot on the floor in my room for several days before the nurse wiped it up. Now that I'm at home with a pacemaker, I'm told by the visiting nurse that it isn't working as my pulse fell to 39 when the pacemaker is supposed to keep my pulse from falling below 60. So I will see my cardiologist in two more days and just learned that the hospital never told him I was there and he explained that the patient has to "invite" him into the hospital. My first admit to CC Hospital was in 2007 for knee replacement and at that time I was favorably impressed and had been singing the praises thereof. But now, with a $30 million profit last year, the hospital refuses to bargain with the nurses and they are stretched so thin that they are literally running from patient to patient with no time to make patient notes, etc. You get what you pay for and although CC H claims to be not for profit, I'd like to know where the $30 million went. Its sister hospital at Falmouth had a recent death due to a mistaken dose of morphine. The one star rating is only because the nurses are doing the best they can under terrible conditions. read more
