    Our 9 seat Cessna.

This is the second time I've flown Cape Air to Vieques from the San Juan International Airport (SJU). The first was in 2005 - yes, that's 10 years ago! The advantage to using Cape Air, as opposed to Vieques Air Link (VAL), who have been servicing Vieques forever, is that you fly in and out of the International Airport, and thus, don't have to get from SJU to Isla Grande, which VAL uses. It's not that far between Isla Grande and SJU, but it is a schlep with luggage and takes time and a cab ride to Isla Grande, and there can be a bit of traffic depending on day of the week and time of day. So, if you aren't into schlepping between airports, book Cape Air. It will cost more, but hey, it's not that much more and if you can't afford it, why are you flying to Vieques to begin with? Take the ferry for $2 and get a dose of culture immersion real fast. Cape Air flys Cessna planes, I think they seat 8 or 9. It's tight in there and sort of warm and stuffy even with the AC blowing right in your face. They tell you where to sit based on weight distribution - your weight relative to everyone else's. They check your luggage and they check your carry on stuff too, once you bring carry-on to the airplane. They will shove it in the wings. Watch them do it. It's funny. Don't bring fancy luggage. Don't bring fancy anything. You're going to a laid back island. Oh, if you are afraid of planes that shake in the air and react to wind currents and look like they are going to crash as they are approaching the runway, stay off these flights. I've never heard of any crashes. One recommendation: if you are flying into SJU, give yourself enough time between planned arrival of your inbound flight and the departing flight from SJU on Cape Air. Don't cut it close! First, you need to get from one terminal to where Cape Air is located, after getting luggage. And if your inbound is late, as mine was 3.5 hours late, you could miss your flight into Vieques and another will not have seats.

I was supposed to fly Dominica to San Juan. Flight was delayed delayed delayed. Power down. Angry representative demanded our passports and started loading our luggage when suddenly the flight was cancelled due to 'weather'. As someone who flies regularly I saw flights were actively arriving and departing in both Dominica and San Juan and surrounding islands. No idea why seaborne cancelled. Secondly the agent started yelling OVER the announcement (???) that seaborne will not be providing any taxi, accommodation etc and then ripped tiny pieces of paper with seabornes corporate number, grabbed her purse and ran out the airport never to be seen again. Well calling Seaborne was another disaster. I guess they use headsets since they seem to be scratching their ass and head the same time. Eventually after explaining over and over what happened they told me they could get me a flight in three days and no help with a place or anywhere to stay. No thanks. I got a flight out of Dominica that same day and was home in the US the day after (a day and half before seaborne wanted to get me home). Save your sanity - fly a major carrier with more flights or LIAT even. If you must fly them allocate an extra day or two for potential error. Lesson learned.

For the money and the time spent in air.. you get what you pay for. Nothing can be in your lap and…read morethe staff is not the friendliest but they were not rude.
