Had the worst interaction with one of their sales people who would not let me speak when asking if they carry a specific product. They were beyond curt, kept talking over me and were dismissive. I used to live down the street and go there all the time and also have continued to send people there. Never again. Whoever works there Mondays (specifically 4/7/25) in the morning needs to brush up on their customer service skills. I will no longer send people to this liquor store or show them any support. Afriend recommended them to me to try to find a Welsh Whiskey I've had a bit of a time trying to find. To my dismay, I couldn't find any recent mentions here, nor a Facebook presence. Fearing they'd fallen due to Covid, I decided to call them. THEY ARE OPEN! 10 AM - 10 PM!! To my delight, they carry the bottle I've been searching for! I can't wait to go check them out in person!! Horrible customer service. This is my local mini market and wine store I walk to with my family. They are very over priced but I shop there weekly because of the convenience. The guy knows me there. Today I bought two items said I didn't need a bag but forgot I was walking and did since I had multiple items, I said actually I do need a bag and was happy to pay the 10 cent fee but he said he already rang me up and I'd have to pay ten cents cash?! I said I'm happy to cancel and pay the extra 10 cents but he refused. Now this is a place I am a regular shopper at. Are you really going to lose a customer over one 10 cent bag one time. As a small business they really should treat there regular customers better. Really disappointed since I liked ti walk there. read more

You're going to think I'm an alke' after this review. Honestly, I don't drink much anymore. I do like great quality spirits and craft beer once in a while. For me, it's more about quality than quantity and spending quality time with people. If you're looking for a variety of spirits, craft brews, and ales, this is the place to go. I stop Cap N' Cork when I'm in the neighborhood. I search for things that are hard to find like Japanese whisky which they do carry. Some brands the carry include Suntory, Yamazaki, Nikka, and Hibiki. They also carry Hitachino Nest Brewery, a great tasting Japanese beer. A few other favorites of mine they carry are Allagash Curieu (triple ale aged in bourbon barrels), Lost Cost Brewery (Downtown Brown), and Belgian ales, Delirium Tremens, and Trappistes Rochefort. Drink three Trappiste Rocheforts and you're guaranteed to sleep well. The owner here is helpful and a wealth of knowledge in spirits. If you're in the neighborhood, it's worth coming by to check out. By the way, they also have a great selection of wine. read more

I literally go here 2-3 times per week. Their beer selection is pretty much the best I've ever seen in LA, in part because it's the biggest. I don't drink wine, but they had LOADS of the stuff. They have a great whisky selection too, but their prices aren't in league with K&L or Remedy.... but beer-wise, they can't be beat. Okay place if you don't have time to go somewhere else or forgot to buy eggs at the grocery store. Prices are higher than other places. They have some weird things in here.. like really old canned pineapple juice with Donald Duck's face on it. Possibly from the early 90s? Lots of beer and wine to choose from but I almost never buy it here because it's expensive. Soda selection is eh. I wish they had something cool, like Curiosity Cola or amazing birch beer. This place is simply amazing if you are trying to find a unique bottle of wine, liquor, or beer. Fantastic selection. It's stocked very neatly, well organized, and spacious. They have many hard to find beers, as I was easily able to pick up a 6-pack of Asahi Black, which is pretty damn hard to find. I didn't take too much time to awe at the wall o' liquor as there was just too much to gawk and take in all at once. Sure, prices are not at a discount level, but it's not very overpriced. I have been shopping here for a few years because of their good selection of beers. I had an experience today that will stop me from giving this business a cent more of my money. A few weeks ago, I made a purchase here of just over $160. One of the items purchased was a bottle of Allagash Curieux. I popped the cork last week to discover that the bottle was bad. FYI I am very familiar with this beer. I went back to Cap-n-Cork today to buy some more beer, and took the empty bottle back explaining the situation. The guy behind the counter said he could not give me a replacement as I did not bring the bottle back with any "juice" in it. He said it was "illegal" to give me a replacement bottle if I did not bring anything back in he bottle. He also said he did "not remember me", after never once asking to see the receipt. (I was wearing a mask, and the words in quotes are his exact words). First of all, I poured the beer into two Belgian chalices. Was I supposed to pour it back in the bottle, to bring it back a week later when I could? And what would they do - sample it during COVID? I asked for a good-faith replacement, and he rudely insisted it was "illegal" to do so without "juice" in the bottle. I felt like I was being treated like a criminal trying to scam them, and ended up walking out without purchasing anything. I ended up calling Allagash directly, who were very apologetic, and offered to reimburse me for the beer (BTW CnC's price is $24 vs. $21 at Whole Foods). They asked me in detail about the condition of the bottle (label were very loose and peeing off, including ones I saw in the display case today), and the appearance, aroma and taste (I let them know I am an advanced home brewer and a BJCP judge). I think it was a handling or storage problem, not a packaging one. Allagash said they were going to call their local distributor to pull the current batch and check it. They are also sending me a t-shirt for the trouble. It is mind boggling to me that a retailer like Cap-nCork is willing to create bad faith and risk loosing business for one bottle of beer. I am going to also spread the word of the way I was treated to my local brewing club, the oldest club in the US, with a very large membership. read more

LOVE it here. Not the place to come for cheap deals, but IS the place to go for great selection and to discover new things. While it does look like the wine selection is amazing too, I can only really speak to the beer here, which is fantastic. They have my very favorite, Hitachino's Nest Red Rice Ale in both small bottles and big ones (pricey, but it's pricey anywhere) and a vast array of Belgians... actually... just a vast array, period. Got a FANTASTIC variety pack called "Sour Power" here which had a killer selection of different sours, which I love, and was cheaper than buying each individually. They also have a great little collection of gluten free options that are FAR better than the gnarly usual sorghum varieties (ew). I highly recommend trying Omission, which they carry, or the New Planet Pale Ale. Both taste very much like what you'd miss if you're going gluten free. The staff can always point you in the right direction if you don't know what to get, or will recommend something new and exciting, if you're in the mood for adventure. I just tried the Flying Dog Oyster Stout and love it! Great place for big beer fans, but also good for those who have no freaking idea and just want a six pack with their vegan pizza from across the street. Shop- let me check ---------------------- Shop- yes we do have it I- you have the strawberry and creme? Shop- oh Shop(yelling at the coworker) hey do we have the bailey? The strawberry? And creme? It doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but walk inside and find yourself in well-organized, well-presented beer and wine mecca. But it's not just the presentation that's impressive here; the selection is unlike any other shop that I've found in LA. I recognized a large number of the reds, white, and roses from wineries that I've visited and liked. They are also one of the few shops in LA to carry One Hope Wine (wine for a good cause!) and some other hard to find wines like Dirty and Rowdy. It's like they have a sommelier curating each bottle in the shop (I wouldn't be surprised if they do?!?). They have a lot of locals that shop here, and the shop owner knows each by name. I used to live in the Bay area and I know how hard it can be to come by Pliny the Elder. Given that I came to LA from AZ for a visit I figured I'd try to get a bottle. Sadly that mission was not accomplished. They do carry it and limit it to a bottle a person however - even with all that. They were out. Either way the store is cool, it has a large cold beer selection and lots of craft beers. I just wish they had a bigger selection of single bottles but overall it's a nice store. While I was across the street at Cruzer Pizza the woman sitting next to me jumps up out of her seat and runs across the street screaming, "Wait, Wait!" and when I panned over I saw that a tow truck was pulling in and getting ready to load up her car on the truck in the Cap N' Cork parking lot. I sucked the air through my teeth and felt incredibly bad for her. Sure she parked illegally in a liquor store parking lot and jaunted across the street for pizza, but how did they know? How did they manage to get there so fast? The guy at the register at Cruzer runs to her aide, goes with her inside to talk to the owner and some exchange happens between the tow truck and the lady. He puts down her car and she finally walks back into Cruzer, I say to her "Geez that really sucks I'm sorry." Then she tells me the story. She's a regular customer at Cap, she asked them if the pizza place across the street was any good as she was wrapping up the purchase there. They told her, "Yea it's really good," so she decided to order pizza across the street before heading home. The owner then called the tow truck after she walked across the street and had her car towed. She had to pay the tow truck a hundred bucks to let her car down. CAP N' CORK TOWED THEIR OWN PAYING CUSTOMER!!!! WHAT THE HELL? THE LOT WAS EMPTY. I came in to buy some mezcal, and was happy with the selection. I spent over $200, and really needed to pee. They told me to go to the taco shop down the street. I mean, seriously? I understand not letting everyone off the street use the employee restroom. But after spending so much money, this was ridiculous. I was tempted to drop trou, and go in the corner. It's hard to say just how much Cap N' Cork contributes to my general happiness and quality of life. Matt B.'s apartment is within walking distance of this wonderful store, and we've made the walk countless times. Our default weekend night involves a bottle of wine on the couch, and more often than not, we buy that here. The store doesn't look like much from outside. The sign is kind of goofy, and the storefront unstyled. There's a parking lot in back that can get very crowded at peak times. Cap N' Cork isn't fancy, but once you're inside the decor doesn't matter. The selection is fantastic. The wines are arranged in diagonal lines across the spacious store, and they're very well organized and easy to browse. There are always cheaper wines on display towards the entrance, and some of these have proven to be worthy purchases. The prices range pretty widely, but there are a lot of great bottles in the $10-$20 range, which is where we buy most of our wine. We have a few favorites which are usually in stock, but we branch out now and then when something catches our eye. I don't think we've ever taken a bottle home that we didn't like. Maybe we're neanderthals, I don't know. We also get most of our beer here, and we're more willing to splash down for expensive beer, as there is a cap to that. The beer occupies a tall continous refrigerated section that winds around half of the store. The selection is impressive, with interesting six-packs and tall bottles that are perfect for sharing on a leisurely weeknight. The prices are pretty decent, better, if you'll believe it, than the liquor store a block up Hillhurst. The people who run the place are very friendly, and a couple of the guys really know their stuff. I've asked about random bottles and gotten detailed descriptions that held up. This doesn't happen every time, but I don't mind. Cap N' Cork is not quite as full service as a place like K & L, where you go in and a wine encyclopedia walks up and guides you, but the staff is great. Once, I asked one of the guys behind the counter about a bottle and he pointed at Matt and said, "How much do you like him? You'll like this better." That may not have been true, but I will say that if I had to choose between Cap N' Cork disappearing and, say, Matt having a really hideous haircut for a few months, I'd probably go with the latter. I love this place, and it's hard to imagine having to do without it. read more

Decent place to buy booze and beer, but their wine prices are JACKED up - go over to K&L or Trader Joe's and get either something nice and discounted at the former or cheap and easy at the latter. The staff is spotty - there are a couple of people who work here and know what they're talking about, and some that basically just want to sell you Popov, smokes, and lottery tickets. I'd avoid it unless you live literally next door. There's much better stuff around. read more
