Back down the valley away from crowds

A few days after enjoying our incredible trail ride at Bryce Canyon, we made our way to prearranged reservations for Zion. The two parks were vastly different: The Bryce ride takes you through vertical hoodoos, spires, dramatic colors and winding trails that weave you through layers of compact, distant multi-layered, eroded walls. On the other hand, the Zion ride slowly gains elevation and places you in front of 3000 foot walls surrounding you with distant rock-faces across the valley. Seems almost like a desert version of majestic Yosemite or vice-versa. After coincidentally, Bryce guide Cowboy Wquincy's Dad selected horses for riders, Little Jessie led us up the trail. She did a good job describing places of interest, but needs to project her voice as it trailed off at times. Old Veteran Jim was pretty talkative and brought us the way back. It wasn't a comprehensive overview trail ride of the park like Bryce, but you will see areas on horseback that may never see on foot.

What a beautiful and fun experience! So glad I reserved the 3 hour horseback ride for my bf and myself! We had a great time! My horse was Sandy and she was such a well behaved horse! My bf had Snowy, he was good as well. Good thing he has horseback experience cause Snowy needed a little more guidance. Totally recommend that you give them a try! You won't regret it! The views were amazing!!! All instructions regarding riding day, parking, meeting location were emailed immediately after I reserved which made it easy to prepare. Parking pass was also included and code to be able to get through the canyon junction. Guides were amazing too! Thank you guys! We will definitely be back!

Group pic at the end of our ride... all smiles!!

Awesome time with these beautiful horses and awesome guides! We were a group of 8, did the one hour ride and the only thing we regret was not doing the three hour! Such a fun experience. Beautiful scenery, saw lots of wildlife and had plenty of laughs, those cowboys are quite entertaining on their own ..... highly recommend! Don't forget to tip your cowboys, they are great guys!!

Tango, my trusty steed, and I went for a 3-hour ride, not a 3-hour tour like Gilligan's Island, in Zion National Park today, and it was a blast. Good guides Good horses Good equipment Beautiful scenery Give it a ride!

Amazing experience! Canyon Trail Rides delivered a fun and adventurous three hour horseback ride down to the Bryce Canyon ground floor and back. Our guide was patient and very helpful with my two middle schoolers. Although the trail can be steep and narrow in places, we felt extremely safe and confident with our horses. No backpacks or water bottles are allowed on the trip but they had plenty of water for us and bathrooms at the midway point. The views were breathtaking and majestic! We had an incredible experience that my kids will talk about for years to come!

Stunning backdrop and fun trails including through the Virgin River.

Had a great time. Beautiful scenery and trails. We had Lance who was fun and low key. Deserved a great tip! No backpacks allowed except Camelbacks. Bring a hat and sunblock. Highly recommend!

Had the most amazing time here! When we return to Zion we definitely are coming back. Lance was an amazing guide, very friendly, funny, and all around personable.

This was the highlight of our trip. Do the 3 hr trail ride. It's worth every penny! The tour guides AWESOME. EVEN though we were late and added my husband last minute they accommodated our every needs. They are an amazing group of ppl.

Located just across the street from the Zion Lodge, our family took the one hour long Virgin River Trip with Cash and the Canyon Trail Rides crew. It was a perfect introduction to the national park and to horseback riding for us. If we came back (and if our daughter was a little older) we'd definitely try the three hour Sand Bench Trail trip, and would consider this outfit for their rides in Bryce and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The crew made sure everyone got a horse (or mule in my wife's case) that they could handle, and my 9 year old loved her time riding UB. Cash had a mix of corny (yet still funny) jokes and real information for us as we rode through the canyon to the Court of the Patriarchs and back. Cash made sure everyone was comfortable and riding properly the whole time, gave everyone encouragement, and generally made sure we all had a good time. There was a woman who left the ride halfway through, but it looked like her family was pressuring her to go on the ride in the first place and she was clearly uncomfortable. Cash let her leave at a place where she could easily walk to a shuttle stop, and then Cash managed his horse and hers on the way back. Very professionally done.

Absolutely worth every penny, every minute of our time spent on the ranch, and all the seconds over…read morethe phone with Jackson! There is a reason to everything that they tell you, and the process you go through to get to the most rewarding experience with these beautiful horses. If you lack patience, discipline, and are only looking for instant gratification, this experience is not for you. If you're not going to listen, and are not open - this experience is not for you. From the start, Jackson sets the pace for the process. Do NOT come here expecting your hand to be held. You need to hold your own and it's for good cause. This was the most beautiful experience that my family and I could ever have together with such amazing animals. You will be wrecked, because no other place does it like they do at Jacob's Ranch. What Josh, Michelle, and Annika do is so special. Jackson isn't lying when he says it's not a nose to tail experience. Be ready to get down and dirty, to work, and be a leader. We will never forget this experience and I don't recommend it for everyone but I do recommend it to those who are open and willing to learn and reap the rewards. My family and I never worked with horses, never been up this close to horses, and most especially never rode horses like this before. At the end of the day, we could proudly say that we did it! We rode them up and down hills, through narrow trails, trotted through open dessert, while the sun was high in the sky till it was beginning to set for the night. We were on this journey with a couple from SC, who have been on horse rides all over the world and they said they've never been to a place like Jacob's Ranch. Needless to say, at the end of the day- we were all so proud of ourselves and amazed at the adventure we had together!

Instead, he insulted me, saying I "don't know anything because of my age," and bizarrely tried to convince me to read the Quran while speaking poorly about other religions, and political stances, totally unprofessional and inappropriate for a business call. After the call, he rang me back 20 minutes later acting like he didn't remember me and insisted I sit through a 30-minute "discussion" about what the experience entails. Yet every time I said I was ready to hear it, he wouldn't stop with his condescending and abusive remarks. At that point, I realized booking with them wasn't worth the frustration. Based on other reviews, this is clearly a pattern, very odd, avoid at all costs!!

The ranch folks also seem to have breakfast in an adjacent room so there were people coming to and fro. The check in area to get your ticket is easy to find and the staff explain where to go/get picked up etc both there and while driving you out to the trailhead (ie you won't be confused about where to go). They charge $8pp round trip and the roads are HORRENDOUS so definitely if you want to make the hike, I'd use these folks. They have a shuttle service to the cable car area too.

J.c. holds a wealth of knowledge and experience of the lay of the land, we were a party of four in one utv and there was a party of two in another utv, with J.c. leading the way through twist and turns to get to the canyon, the ride to get there was a great experience in its self!, it was a bumpy ride but that's the lay of the land!, your going to get dusty and dirty so expect it, and you need closed toe shoes as well. It's about a 15 minute ride from the base to the entrance to the canyon and well worth the ride!!, but when you get to the canyon that's where nature and J.c. wow you with such grand beauty and the wealth of knowledge that J.c. shares with you and the hike that you take through the canyon, nothing strenuous or stressful at all. You spend time exploring through the canyon and that's where you can take great pictures of the walls and the different topography that is there!, the weather was mild, mid to high seventy's so your comfortable in light layers, but again you will be dusty/ dirty but it's well worth it, pricing if fair, so make sure you book with them for any specials or discounts that are available, it's about a two hour excursion, so you really get your $$$ worth. Riding along the backside of the Zion mountains…read moreprovides incredible views, and that part of the experience was something I genuinely appreciated. That said, a few things took away from what could have been a great experience. The horse I was assigned, Dash, had a very nervous temperament throughout the ride. She would frequently get startled and suddenly run forward, which made the ride feel unpredictable and unsafe at times. At one point she jolted so abruptly that I was almost bucked off, which ended up causing a pinched nerve that I'm still dealing with. Because of Dash's temperament I also couldn't ride near my partner, so we spent most of the ride separated. As first-time visitors to the area, I was also hoping to hear some history or information about the landscape we were riding through. Instead, there was very little guidance or storytelling during the ride. If it weren't for the light conversation from Wendell, the wrangler riding toward the back with me, the ride would have been largely silent. Another issue came at the very end of the experience. During the ride, the front wrangler offered to extend our original one-hour ride. No one in our group had asked for an extension -- it was presented to us as an option while we were already out on the trail. After we had finished the ride, gotten off our saddles, and were preparing to leave, we were then informed that the extension came with an additional $140 charge on top of the $224 we had already paid to book the ride. That cost had never been disclosed when the extension was offered. Had we known there would be an additional charge, we absolutely would have declined. Learning about it only after the ride was finished made the situation feel misleading and left us feeling taken advantage of. I don't want to disregard the beauty of the scenery or the time spent on the trail, but between the unsafe temperament of Dash, the lack of information shared during the ride, and the undisclosed charge for an extension that had been offered without mentioning the cost, it significantly impacted the experience. For those reasons, I feel a three-star review is fair. Hopefully this helps future guests make a more informed decision when booking.

This is an experience you won't soon forget, and one that anybody can do! What are you waiting for? Booking our reservations was painless. I made a phone call and spoke with Patty, who gave me a few options of times for our ride. We had a group of three-two adults and a teenager. (On the day of the ride, we we met another group of three that joined us.) She gave me instructions on where to go on the day of our ride, and sent them again via text with GPS coordinates so we could easily meet our guide. Mike, our guide, was fantastic. He was friendly, took some time up front to give us a quick orientation and then asked each of us about our horse riding experience so he could match us up with an appropriate horse. He was patient with us, as some of us had very little experience. The trail itself was not all the way flat, but not so challenging that a novice rider would struggle. There are a few areas where we went up hill and then a few where we went down. Mike advised us on proper posture to make it easier on the horse as we navigated some of that hilly terrain. At one point, he recognized that the teen in the group was getting a little frustrated with his horse. He gave him some instruction and then engaged him in conversation about music-something they had in common. I appreciated that Mike was able to include everyone in the group in some way. He's a good dude. After the ride, we were given some carrots to feed our horses. I loved that part! I think the horses appreciated it too. This may not be an activity that we will do every time we visit St. George, but it will definitely be on that we remember forever and bring along some friends to show them the beauty of Snow Canyon from a different perspective.
