Unique pizza at a price straight out of the 90s Love this place, and it's pizza. All of the haters like shit from places like Sabaro.

I basically live across the street and for a year and a half I was religiously grabbing food here 1 or 2 times a week because its close and cheap. But after my experience last night with one of the owners I will never go back! I have never been so enraged by an owners disrespect that I just had to write this review. Because I am there so often I usually get to know the staff even though there was obviously a high turn over rate for employees. That brings me to my friend who is a disabled veteran. I know he worked hard at this place because not only did I hear about it but I also saw it for myself because I live so close by and walk past canyon multiple times every day. I havent seen my friend recently, so I asked the man working the counter last night (someone that I know to be one of the owners) where my friend has been. He couldve left it at "no, he no longer works here" however he continues and says "we cleaned house at the start of the year because some people werent doing their job". This owner has missed pay days because he decided to blow his money frivolously, whether it was on an expensive trip for himself or on plastic storage bins that the business didnt really need. There has been times canyon has been closed because the owner didnt order enough cheese. The owners cant even afford rent on this space sometimes because of poor business practices. Oh and lets not forget why they had to shut down last spring due to at least 12 health code violations! This is information I have gathered from MULTIPLE employees over the last year and a half and I am beyond disgusted by the lack of respect this owner has for his employees. This owner had the audacity to place blame on a disabled veteran like that when I know damn well that he is the lazy waste of space and the real reason canyon is failing. I will never give this business my money again if this is how theyre going to treat disabled veterans. Have the day you deserve bud! read more

$10 for 18 in pizza! Such a great deal, especially late at night on the weekend. Absolutely worth it. Would recommend the mozz sticks as well read more

DO NOT GO HERE. This is NOT the canyon that you remember. They now have two different prices between the kiosk and the physical overhead menu. The difference is 30-40% between the two (kiosk is more expensive). And even their normal menu prices are 2-3X what they were just a couple years ago. Also their large pies are now half the size of what they were just 2 years ago. TLDR; This new Canyon is not what you remember. You will over pay by double for sub par pies. Also they are extremely unforgiving with their sauce cups. read more

I'm a pizza snob and also have some digestive issues so canyon is not my favorite pizza in town. It's 100% college kid pizza, best when drunk, and doesn't ruin your bank account. They do have good deals on pizza but every single time I eat it I regret wasting calories on it. I could've had something so much better! Aside from my personal preference of not eating pizza that tastes like plastic, we have had a lot (a LOT) of issues with canyon messing up orders. They forget toppings, only give you 3 pepperonis on a large pizza, stuff like that that can really ruin a fun time. My friend ordered a cheese pizza once and got it home to realize they didn't put any cheese on it. What ?! It was wild, so definitely inspect the pizzas before you walk out to make sure it's what you ordered! I will say, the cheesy bread is alright (still not my favorite but better than the pizza itself). And the one time I had to pick up a very large order and only one guy was working, he still offered to help me get it to the car when he also had a lot of other things going on. I appreciated that, so these two stars are for him. read more

Canyon is a local staple, and the community is greatly divided on whether it is the best pizza in town or if it will give you uncontrollable diarrhea. Most people agree on the diarrhea, and the "best pizza in town" vastly depends on what you buy and if it happens to be a day when the workers care. Some of their specialty pizzas and their cheesy breads can be really fantastic, and their weekday deals are the best prices in town. Their standard pizzas (pepperoni, sausage, etc) are definitely ok, but be ready for an ocean of grease and to feel physically ill afterwards. I think their sausage is the best topping I've tried, and a basic sausage pizza absolutely soaked in ranch is a guilty pleasure that is hard to beat. Ok all that said, their workers really could not care less if you fell over and died in their restaurant. Best to keep orders simple, don't ask for anything special, and in general don't look too happy when you go in. Any order greater than 2 pizzas will result in profanities thrown your way for the amount of work it is for them to deal with. With great cost comes great reward.... read more

Let me paint a quick picture for you. We had just left Insomnia Cookies and have been turned away because they had too much demand and didn't want to sell the remaining cookies this early in the night. It was 11 p.m. and I and II college-age buddies had the munchies. We had eaten a full dinner at Otto's two hours prior. One of my friends had the brilliant idea to go to Canyon Pizza. He told us it was the cheapest place around and you can get a ton of food for little to no cost. We were excited to try the slices, but quickly realized this was not a good idea. After my first bite I knew the only value here came to those that were trying to sober up in the middle of the night. This could be quite possibly the worst pizza I've ever had in my life. Because I knew my buddies had mentioned they like this place I tried to keep my mouth shut however seconds later when the third member of our party mentioned even being six beers in that he couldn't stomach another bite I knew I was onto something. This pizza was worse than what I would find sitting under a heat lamp at Sheetz. When we look behind the counter at our options the slices look like they've been sitting there for half the day. They were cold, slightly shriveled-up and uninviting. The girl was nice and took our order and then put them in the oven for a minute before sliding them across to us on the counter. We all took bites, we all looked at each other and we all did the same thing: and that was throw them in the trash. The good news is two slices of pizza and more than a half-dozen breadsticks only cost $5 so we didn't feel like we lost too much money. It's hard to believe anybody giving this place a good rating because the pizza was downright unedible. That goes for me being sober, one of my buddies six beers in and another that takes pride in living off fast food like Taco Bell. None of us ate our food. When you get a chance do yourself a favor and take a look at the all so uninviting condiment bar. This includes some ranch that looks like it's been sitting out for three days, marinara sauce and a spicy marinara. There were beautiful stains on the counter and I can imagine the health department wouldn't pass this place. I wouldn't come back but I'm guessing some college students rave about this place because you can get a slice of cheese pizza for a dollar and their form of a breadstick for $0.50. If you're just looking to fill your belly I'm sure you'll do fine. I'm sorry if this review seems negative but the only way people trust you and your reviews is if you tell the truth every time. And in that case this is some of the worst pizza I've ever had. read more

Let's be honest here, while I doubt Canyon pizza has entered the realm of great pizza in last 20 years, there are 3 upsides... (1) It is located right smack dab in the middle of Beaver Canyon. IOt doesn't matter if you're coming from a downtown frat party, an apartment party, or well, any of the many bars. It always is either on your stumble 'home' or a short diversion of the path. (2) Unlike many corporate eateries, it's open until 3:45 am. So, whether you're one of the many tossed out by the bar at 2 am or from the frat party at 3 am...it's still open. (3) Its pepperoni rolls are made from more or less rolled up pepperoni pizzas. Its calzones? Take a pizza, fold it over and pinch. Seriously while it might take a spider monkey to execute their menu, it works. Keep two things in mind. The first is that there is something special about a guy who stays up until 3 am and then some. Second, is that bless his heart, no place else is open and able to feed the highly drunken masses. Beggars are not choosers. And I must admit, I never had a slice of Canyon Pizza while 100% sober. I was there during its inception years. They literally had no storefront. It was a hole in a wall, you gave it cash, it gave you pizza slices on white paper plates. After a few years, about 2, they expanded to add an interior with basic stools and a pair if counters design to really keep drunken masses at bay. read more

Nobody around when I came to pick up my order. I waited 15 minutes for this guy to quit laughing and talking with his buddy in the back - we made eye contact plenty of times and he saw me standing there. I had to shout to get his nasty self to the front. Then he gives me an attitude, like I interrupted him. Asked for my name on the order...then asked for my receipt, probably just to be an A-hole. This is 100% poor college kid pizza. I paid $10 extra bucks for 3 toppings on a plain cheese pizza and got very scarce toppings. I could have bought a can of mushrooms and slapped them on the pizza myself for cheaper than the $3 they charged for 6 f'ing mushrooms. Screw this place, and the guy who served us. read more

Worst customer service and even worse food. I ordered create you own party sticks with pepperoni, jalapeño and pineapple. When it arrived it looked good. The cheese seemed kind of thick. As soon as biting into it you could tell it was totally raw dough. I called them back and the person answering the phone blamed me for "all the toppings" when you can see in this picture its way too much cheese. He offered me a $7 coupon and only offered to remake it and send it a new one after starting to argue with me on the phone. Don't waste your money to an establishment like this. There are too many people out there doing a better job. I could cook a better pizza with my eyes closed. read more

I had their $4 combo deal... AMAZING. The place was packed but the line moved quickly. It is known at the spot to get pizza after the bars, parties or just when your craving a slice. Their deal really is great, it consists of any 2 slices with a can of soda and 1 pepperoni roll or 2 cinnamon sticks. They have a condiment section, it has 3 sauces 2 of those being ranch and spicy marinara. They also have the other condiments like red pepper, black pepper, oregano etc. They also ring the gong for every tip they get and the crowd just makes every ring more exciting. It really is a good time! Their pizza was good The right amount of cheese and sauce.Their pepperoni stick was my favorite. I definitely recommend coming here and they are open until late ! I also heard one of the people say that the pie is 8 bucks! Great prices! read more

One of the only places open after 2 am, Canyon's pizza is decent for the price. A group of us stumbled in after spending some time in a bar nearby watching a local band and we were HUNGRY. We ordered three pies to go, as our hotel was in walking distance. Prices are super reasonable and our pizza was freshly made while we waited. read more

First of all, I live in the middle of nowhere, so delivery is a novel thing for me. I thought about ordering at 4:50 and opened up Yelp to see what was near by. Well damn! Yelp has a delivery option. I looked at a few reviews on a bunch of places and all of them had negative things to say about delivery. I thought, well, I'm in no rush, let's give it a try. Canyon Pizza seemed the best and the reviews said the pizza is okay. Soooo, I clicked the "place your order" button and hot damn, the things on their menu on Yelp we're actually the items available to order. (I had super low expectations for this working.) I choose a strombolli and Pepperoni Sticks. I choose cash as an option to pay and put in the address of my hotel and clicked the submit button at 5:05pm. With my continued low expectations I figured something would go wrong. I got comfortable and prepared to wait the 45-60 minutes the Yelp site said the wait would be. The app said to check my email for confirmation, so I did. The email had three links to choose, check order status, reordered, and check order status on Yelp. I chose check order status and it said that my food would be delivered at 5:36. I figured that was wrong didn't even care that it was probably wrong. Low expectations made me chill! (Also, I'm almost never chill, soooooooo.....) So here's the amazing thing. The delivery guy called at 5:30 to confirm my address and said he'd be here in a minute. WHAT? NOOOOO! This process, which is ripe for horror and tears worked AND was ahead of schedule? How does that even happen? I met the guy in the lobby. He was nice, neatly dressed, and clean. (I'm a Mom, these are things that are important to me.) I paid him and headed back to my room for dinner. The Stromboli was HUGE and delicious! I ordered ham and pineapple! It was perfectly cooked and wonderfully messy. The Pepperoni Rolls are huge. I was anticipating something similar to a garlic knots, but they are literally slices of pizza, rolled up. Super delicious and way more food then I was prepared for.... Ladies of Penn State, if everyone on your floor is PMSing, you neeeeeed these pepperoni rolls! $6 for 6! You almost have to. I think you owe it to your hormones and hormones of the people you live near to have these pepperoni rolls! If you're looking for something fancy, then I don't even know why your reading this review. Stop it! You're a troll. If you want some bang for your buck, Canyon Pizza is for you! read more

Okay, here's the deal, if you are looking for high quality "shi-shi" pizza places, Canyon ISNT for you. If you want awesome tasting pizza for an awesome price, you can't beat Canyon Pizza. Canyon has an extremely varied Pizza menu ranging from Cheese, to Everything. Their prices are some of the cheapest in State College, and their service is excellent. The jewel is their 4 Dollar Pizza Deal. 2 slices... ANY Slices, 2 breadsticks, OR a Pepperoni Stix, and a 32 Oz. Fountain Soda. Where else can you get a meal like that for that price? Some negatives... VERY limited seating. Very limited parking. Street only. Sometimes it can get crowded, but they do their best to keep the line moving. All in all, a great Penn State tradition! read more

After a night of visiting different bars around State College, we were hungry for some pizza. We tried a few places, but they were closed. Then we found Canyon Pizza. Canyon Pizza offered $1 slices, but we bought a pie to go. We ordered a steak pizza and even before we had paid, the pizza was being put in the oven. In about 7 minutes and for $8, we walked away with a pizza. For the price and the speed, it was fantastic. It wasn't gourmet pizza, but for a cheap snack after the bars, this place can't be beat. read more

Good lord........ While all my friends were drinking, I was dreaming of food. It was about 12:30, and this place had the cheapest minimum/delivery fee. I honestly wasn't expecting much. I went for a large buffalo chicken pizza and pepperoni rolls with spicy marinara sauce. Both were SO GOOD. The pepperoni rolls were basically pizza though, lol. The buffalo chicken pizza was just right meaning they didn't overpower the pizza with buffalo sauce. Food came earlier than expected which was a plus. Will be ordering from here more often! After eating their food, I found out this place has lines out the door. I can definitely see why!! read more

Literally thought the pizza was gonna be crap here...i mean cmon a buck a slice? There's gotta be a catch right? Small slice? Crappy taste? Nah....bomb as F. I wasnt even drunk. The slices are HUGE and had hella cheese. Mad worth it. Btw if u get the Xtra large its 8 bux for 8 slices which is exact same as a dollar a slice...but i dunno if the slices are bigger cuz u got a whole pie so if u got 8 ppl anyway might as well jus get the whole thing instead of gettin 8 separate slices and risk smaller slices i guess... Ill be back just for the dollar slice. read more

State College isn't famous for pizza but Canyon is famous for its late night pizza slices - seriously, where else can you get $1 slices after a (possibly drunken) party? There is nothing in this town I hate more than pretentious pizza fucks who complain about pizza places like Canyon. If you want "the best pizza ever," stop and think about whether it's reasonable to expect that for $1. (Hint: It's not.) That being said, I have thoroughly enjoyed every meal I've had at Canyon, and I've been sober for all of them! The ambience of this small hole-in-the-wall is second to none. It's dirty and sketchy and awesome. I actually love coming here with my significant other. Most importantly, for how cheap their food is, it's really good! The pizza is $1 a slice, and their toppings are surprisingly good! Their $4 combo is a great deal. My favorite thing here, though, is the cheesestix. They're comparable to Gumby's pokey stix, but way cheaper. They're still cheesy and garlicky and buttery and fantastic. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to stuff their face on a budget. Try the cheesestix! read more

i would rather eat cement covered in giraffe poop than eat this pizza sober. The only thing that makes this pizza even slightly edible is the fact that I am beyond blacked out anytime I get it.They do have good deals and are open late but it's because who the actual f**k eats there during the day sober? like probably no one and if you do i think therapy is your next move. read more

I ordered the margarita pizza and pepperoni rolls to share. The margarita pizza wasn't good. It was kind of cold when we picked it up and the balsamic vinegar was very off putting. Seemed pretty cool, pizza was very good, girl with red hair Griffen which was what she said her name was, after asking if I get a receipt for my purchase said they don't give credit card receipts to drunk people. Is the pizza good? Ehh. Is this the place you're absolutely going to head to for your late night munchies at State College? Without a doubt. I'm not sure I've ever actually been here not after last call. It's kind of the thing to do in Happy Valley. The slices are large, cheap and they're open late. Win! I'm pretty sure it's a law to visit Canyon after a night of debauchery. And it's definitely a must to get some ranch to dip your slice into. It's really the Penn State way. The best cardboard in State College! If you love cardboard as much as I do, than you'll love Canyon Pizza. Made with REAL 100% non-delicious ingredients, topped with sauce and tasteless cheese, Canyon is definitely the best late-night cardboard in State College. Top it with any of their sauces (ranch, marinara, or hot sauce) to mask the taste of the actual cardboard! It's great! If you're looking for actual PIZZA, however, you should ignore people saying ridiculously dumb things like "Canyon is a Penn State Tradition" and "Best light night food in State College" or my favorite "Bro, Canyon is the shiznit" and instead try some ACTUAL pizza at Corrinado's or Mama Mias or literally anywhere else. Love it for what it is. Let me set some expectations out there for you to absorb: Cardboard pizza is not take out or any sense of other quality pie. Sorry. You know what, sorry I'm not sorry. You're paying almost nothing for this pie, it shouldn't taste great. Good smothered in extra sauce or ranch dressing? Yes. By itself, no flippin way.
