I've had my autobody worked on. They did a decent job, but I believe I got charged for stuff that was unnecessary, e.g., removal of headlights that weren't connected to anything they were working on. I actually had them remove the charge for one of my headlights. But, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed ignorance on their part and the possibility that they removed at least one of the headlights because "that's what the computer said to do". You know how that works? These independent non-specific-vehicle-certified shops get these computers that tell them exactly what to do so the techs don't have to do a lot of thinking? It sometimes compresses the time they work on your car, but it could cost the consumer extra stuff that you wouldn't otherwise had to do even if it's quicker. Of course no one is as quick on working on your car as a technician/mechanic who works on the make and model of your car all the time. Then there was the overspray on surrounding areas of where the work was being done which I had corrected later on. They also employed the worst cleanup job I've experienced from over 8 autobody shops I've had various cars worked on over the years; it was dust material inside my car and all over the other parts of the body that weren't worked on. They couldn't even just wash it down. There was more from the vent when I turned on the AC. But, their labor rates were downright cheap compared to many for this type of non-dealership-type work. So, if you're just into cheap labor and don't care about getting nickel and dimed on other stuff you don't really know about because you don't really know much about cars, then by all means this is probably not too bad of a place. Either way, I don't really trust independent auto repair shops that also sell used cars on the same lot. There's always something shady in those places. Also, if you live in the Tigard area and looking for someplace close by to get DEQ tested....DO NOT GET YOUR DEQ TESTING HERE! Let me remind you of the cost for DEQ testing: -DEQ Centers = $25 DEQ fee + vehicle registration fee -Canyon Auto Repair in Tigard = $90 + $25 DEQ fee + vehicle registration fee. If your check engine light comes on while you're there and you want these guys to just do some troubleshooting they're going to charge you for that. And, if you're sucker enough that you also want them to repair said problem they probably created to generate business then it's going to cost you even more. read more

I was so happy that I found a local auto repair place. I went for an oil change. They were happy and fast. Although I was told the $25 discount for first time customers didn't apply, the $89.99 synthetic oil change wasn't too outrageous. I left happy. A few days later, the low oil light came on. I took my car back to Canyon Auto Repair. There were no mechanics on duty but the manager, John, said he'd take care of it.Before he went to the back for oil, we mentioned the car was parked uphill. He said he knew the car should be flat to check the oil. Well, he never leveled the car. He also tried to add oil without using a funnel. What a mess! Not 3 blocks from the shop the low oil light came back on again. I live close by so I drove home. My son worked on cleaning up the oil spill. I made several calls but was not getting help. The next morning when we checked the oil , the dip stick only had old oil residue on the end. Pretty much no measurable oil. I called again and was told they could tow my car to their Tigard business and check things out. I chose to get a real repair shop to see the damage and help me get back on the road. I do not recommend using Canyon Auto repair. I regret leaving them a good review earlier. Turns out the car was 3 quarts of oil low. The oil spill was on the manager. He should never have tried to be a mechanic. He wasn't trained nor certified to work on anyones car. read more

I was very disappointed. I thought they where great they where recommend by a friend. Then I took my vehicle to Les Schwab to get tires and I asked them to replace the break pads canyon said I needed. Turns out I didn't need any of the work they recommend or completed done. I spent 2000 dollars in repairs. Being a single mom with three teenagers that money could have been used elsewhere. horrible They told me I needed brake pads that had not been done because I couldn't afford it. Les said didn't need them. I have the paperwork where you go on to say I need more work that was not done. They said I need none of it!! So did I really need any work in the first place. I took my truck in to have the right wheel bearing replaced. I knew what was wrong with it when I took it in. They said they would need to drive it and evaluate it. They kept it overnight and said that I needed new brake calipers and rotors too. I took their advice and had them repair all of it. I picked it up drove it home the wheel bearing is still making noise so I call them. The manager says that he's busy he'll have to look at my records and call me back. Never does. I finally got tired of it and just took it to Les Schwab and let them fix it for me that way I know it will be done right. I will never trust this shop. You can literally tell them what's wrong and then not fix it. read more

Nothing but good to say about this shop. The owner Lee is one of the most accommodating people I have experienced. In being in a car accident in my brand new car, he was very comforting in a time when I was very upset and made sure to help me out with insurance, loaner car during the repair time and even helped me with the auto adjuster. He even offered to take time out of his hectic day and offer to take me to lunch. During the repair time, he frequently updated me on the status of my car. 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan Problem: I took my wife's van into Beaverton Canyon Auto for a loud front end rattling noise. The noise was extreme when idling and after slight acceleration. Also, the noise was more prevalent when the AC was turned on. During normal driving, the noise seemed to disappear and would only come back at a stop light with the engine idling. At Canyon auto, a quick noise diagnosis with the service manager John and he suspected that it may be the ac compressor or idler pulley. Of course, for proper verification the van would need to be brought in for further troubleshooting. We left the van at Canyon auto on Wednesday 7/19/23 morning and on Thursday morning I received a call from John the service manager and he communicated that we had a bad power steering pump. This was surprising to me as the power steering didn't have any abnormal symptoms and seemed to be working fine. He assured me that this was the problem. Friday morning John called informing me that the steering pump had been replaced and the major issue and noise was gone. He stated that there was still a small rattling noise due to a broken bolt on the exhaust flange. When we went to pick up the van, the exact same noise was still there. I was upset and didn't want to pay for the power steering pump. He dropped the charge and said they would replace the ac compressor on Monday 7/24/23 morning. We brought the van home and let it sit for the weekend. Tuesday morning the van was brought in for the ac compressor replacement. This didn't fix the noise, John then told me that the idler pulley and belt tensioner was replaced. The noise was still there, they then replaced the alternator, and the noise was still there. After a week of this frustration and misdiagnoses Canyon auto had the audacity to tell me that this noise was coming from the loose exhaust flange. We ended up paying them $380 for an oil change and alternator that didn't need to be replaced. We took the van to the Beaverton exhaust specialist and gave him the history of the problem. He fixed the flange and replaced the broken bolt for free. He also diagnosed that the rattling noise was coming from the transmission. We then took the van into Beaverton transmission. To cut a long story short, the root cause of the rattle was a broken flex plate in the transmission, an $1800 repair. If Canyon auto are alleged to be a professional auto repair shop and have some respectable reviews, why couldn't they have diagnosed this problem the first day? The exhaust guy diagnosed the root cause issue in 5 minutes using a stethoscope. ***Customer Beware of Canyon auto's sketchy quality of troubleshooting and dishonest business tactics. I say dishonest because they were trying to give us the van back after the alleged initial repair (power steering pump) and wanting to charge us $750 while it still had the exact same rattling noise. There also appears to be no indication of a new power steering pump or ac compressor installation. Were these parts even replaced. Overall it was a very bad experience and I wouldn't wish this on any future customer. read more

If we could remove the FAKE one-star reviews here the total would be more accurately 4.5-5. If I could give them six I would! I also recently realized they take the time to report servicing and repairs to CARFAX ; something the dealership won't do which will affect my resale value ! I began taking my 2015 Volvo here for oil changes rather than the dealer and found them to be faster and about half the cost (I have a computerized system the usual quick oil change places can't do, not even top offs). I also asked them to make repairs I was quoted by dealership, again faster with full explanations and about 2/3 price. Nearly a year later, when I needed regular service, they got me in quickly and not only did the job well, but said they looked at the previous repair they did and didn't like how it was wearing and REPLACED FOR FREE! I truly would have never known . Honesty almost unheard of these days! Finally, my starter went out and they were like calling family... reassured me and fit me in as an emergency appointment. When a strange warning light came on soon after they helped diagnose, covered appropriate guaranteed portion and charged a fair price for the other issue (I needed an auxiliary battery also). Bottom line is mechanics are like doctors and diagnosing/repairs are both a science and art... not always clear cut and depend on the experience, ability to listen, care and trustworthiness of the "doc". I love taking my car to Canyon Auto because I know they will work with me to figure out the issue, repair with quality parts, and stand behind those repairs with amazing integrity, and always with a smile even when they're run ragged. Brought our Toyota in because of the maintenance light, tire sensor, and headlight bulb needed replacement. They misdiagnosed the issue and didn't fix it properly. They said the tire sensor was due to low tire pressure, but when we received the car back, sensor light was still on and when having tire pressured filled elsewhere in the past, this never resolved the issue. Headlight bulb needed to be replaced. High beams worked, but regular headlight did not. They diagnosed that it was a loose connection. The light still didn't work when we got the car back. They returned the car back to us after stating they did an oil change and that both of the other issues should have been addressed. They had us return to get the light bulb for the headlight replaced and still charged us full price. I will never trust them to diagnose or repair anything in the future, and I have my doubts if they even properly replaced the oil. read more

I came into the shop to have a routine winter tire exchange done and the owner gave my car a thorough look over and determined my car had damage from a previous car accident, making it quite dangerous to drive. Lee really went to bat for me and was in my corner when it came to talking to the insurance adjuster about the damage and getting things covered. I should have read further down in the reviews before getting work done on my vehicles. Of course, yelp shows all the positives first and I took that to heart and my bad excepted it as the only truth. I took my Honda CRv first for the wheel bearings to be replaced. I was quoted a price and asked if they would mind putting on a caliber and brakes that I had brought as well. He said of course we are going to have to take everything off anyway. So I expected to pay a bit more because they were doing a bit extra. Thought all was well and so I took my other car a Ford Edge there to have the wheel bearings done as well. Was quoted a price and it was reasonable. Did not ask for any extras with the Ford. I was so super excited because I have been doing all my work on my cars and was so happy to have someone who I thought was reasonable and reliable literally right down the road from me. When I picked up the Ford as soon as I got in there were three dash lights on. ABS, traction control and traction control are off. I instantly went back in and told John. He sent me to a bay and had the person who did my wheel bearings come out and bring a reader to read what was happening. I found out that the ABS sensor was not working. They did nothing to remedy this for me and just sent me on my way. I later found out that the brakes that I paid 50 dollars for that they supposedly put in were not put in (on the Honda). I instantly went down there and was told he did not see them and he doesn't remember ever seeing them but would look around and call me in a little while to update me. I waited a whole week and never heard anything. I ended up calling them. He said I never found them and the best he could do was to give me a discount on my next service. Next, I did some investigation on the sensors for the Ford and the only way this malfunction happens is by human error. They literally have to be hit or damaged in order go bad. So while doing my wheel bearings the sensor was hit and damaged. They told me they had to literally take a hammer and beat the hub in order to get the hub off to replace it. I was also harged a hundred dollars more for the Ford than what I was quoted. I get it, it was a bit harder than you thought ok that I will pay extra for but not when you damage my car and make it so I had to pay 64.00 dollars for sensors and now have more work that I have to do on my car. This is something they damaged and should of fixed. Not to mention losing my brakes and never putting them on! I drove around for three weeks thinking my brakes were great. I kept hearing the scraping of brakes and thought they were the front brakes needing to be replaced. I realized that the scraping was coming from the back where the new brakes should have been replaced. Ended up having to do my brakes in the end and paying double for brakes. Than I find an article that states how many lawsuits this guy and his wife have had in regards to business. Wish I would of known this all before!!! Aside from being really expensive they don't honor the work they do, my engine cover wasn't reinstalled correctly from a previous repair and hot air and fumes from engine compartment were allowed to enter the drivers compartment.. During the latest repair the van was raised by the frame which unloaded the suspension and during this time the spring shackle rotated almost 90 degrees, it's quite visible from outside the vehicle and i can't help but notice if something is wrong, it wasn't like that when i brought it in but was twisted when it came back out, i was told that happened while i was driving which is not possible, i was told they would have to charge me 1/2 labor to repair something they messed up, this did not go over well with me since they were the last ones to touch that shackle. read more

I can't give it higher for several reasons: It took much longer than expected, but sounds like it was a difficult repair and ultimately they needed Audi's help to diagnose the underlying problem. Also, rarely does anyone pick up the phone. They will get back to you, eventually. Once you go in person though, everyone there is amiable and helpful. They are also true to their word and honest. They also do provide a car to use if yours is under repair for a prolonged period, but note that the cars they loan to you aren't what you'd expect from an Enterprise Rental. Overall, I'd give them another chance and am hoping that my experience was a one off. Again, honesty in a small business is huge, and they were. read more

Finding a business who delights you when all is well is a rare find, but a business who delights you even when something has gone wrong is even better. I could go on and on about all my good experiences, but l think the time something went wrong is more illuminating. I had left my 1996 Dodge Caravan for an overnight job, and when I picked it up the following morning, I discovered that someone had broken into the van while it had been parked in Canyon Auto's parking lot. Now, we all know parking lots are posted with disclaimers about not being responsible for damage in the lot, and I was fully prepared to take the issue up with my insurance company. The owner, Lee, was much more upset than I, and not only did he fix my damaged door lock for free, he also began parking all overnight customer cars inside his locked garage even though I'm sure it was a huge inconvenience. I contacted this place through Yelp. Within minutes Lee, the owner, wrote back to me telling me to come in the next day for an estimate. I had already called about 5 repair shops in the area and they were booked out two weeks. I had a short time frame and Lee was able to accommodate. Not only did they quote less than the other places I talked to, my car looked fantastic. One of the workers walked me through everything they quoted me for and told me how they would fix certain things. For someone who does not understand vehicles all that much, this was super helpful. I bought a 1989 Chevy S10 truck, took it in to get a once over and have some work done on it, as it hadn't been cared for much by previous owners. Had shocks replaced, bearings, serpentine belt, turn signals fixed, ignition key replaces and brake fluid flush and oil changed. Jim gave me a great price and often managed to find a way to lower the price just a bit without compromising on quality. The car handles much better and is a much smoother and safer ride for what a great classic truck it is. I have really appreciated both Jim and Hans kind, funny attitudes throughout the process. I am not a car expert, but Jim was great in explaining what the benefits of the work would be without speaking down to me, as often happens with car shops, when I asked questions. It was a great learning experience for me and i would trust them to work on my truck again in the future. read more

I brought my car in here for a scheduled brake inspection last month. I have been using Les Schwab for years but a friend told me to try a difference place because at Les Schwab you pay more (I do agree but you get more in return; I'll get back to this in a bit...). I take my car in for my appointment. After waiting a while, the clerk comes out and explain to me that multiple work is needed on my car. He informs me that my front brakes pads & rotor, rear brake drum and shoes, and my rear differential needs to be replaced. I received a massive quote of approximately $800. Skeptical, I declined service to my car in lieu of a second opinion. I was charged $50 for a brake inspection (which most other places provides as a complimentary service). I paid the $50 fee and headed to the nearest Les Schwab. Les Schwab inspected my brakes; my front brakes were fine and my rear drum and shoes needed to be replaced. Service ended up being $236. I also brought up my issue with my rear differential. Les Schwab doesn't specialize with that type of work but I looked at it anyways. It was leaking due to a bad bolt used. They went above and beyond and located a replacement bolt from an authorized dealer. They refilled my rear differential fluid and installed the new bolt at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. Overall I understand auto repair places trying to make a profit and all, however quoting unnecessary repairs just falters credibility of the repair shop. I rather continuously do business with a honest repair shop, even if cost me a few dollars more, than one that want to simply screw me over. read more

Canyon Auto Repair is a busy shop meaning they are trusted with peoples very important mode of transportation, as evident of my first visit at the beginning of the year for maintenance and repair indicator lights. I was in a bind for its was the 30th of December and was asked to leave my Honda Civic for test and repair determination. However, I needed to have a way to my job on Monday very early. The resourceful folks Garret and Kevin at Canyon Auto Repair have a rental vehicle that I was lucky to have been able to use while my vehicle was in repair. I waited a few cycles for the light to turn off and I'm confident on future repairs in this shop. The car is currently running nicely. I feel treated respectfully and fairly. Look over your estimate closely before you ok the repair. They will try and overcharge you for every little piece of the bill. I needed my battery changed and they were going to bill me 160 dollars for an Interstate Megatron II battery. You can look anywhere online and see that 160 is WAY too much for this battery. I called Firestone just to double check and they confirmed what I saw on their website. They sell the same battery for 109 dollars. The owner was there and he reduced the price to 110 after not much argument. I imagine it's because he knew he was trying to rip me off. They also charged me 60 dollars for cleaning the terminal. On the phone, when the owner was explaining the estimate, he said they would be replacing the terminal and that explained the cost. On the invoice it says, very clearly that they just cleaned it. That's not worth 60 dollars. I'm a 26 year old woman with little to no car knowledge so it's really hard to find a mechanic I can trust; needless to say this is not one. I will not be going back to this mechanic and highly recommend looking at the estimate very thoroughly before giving the go-ahead on repairs. read more

I usually take my car to the dealership where I bought my car. Yes, you usually get treated like a king, but it is always at a cost. They overcharge on parts and labor. Why not take it to a smaller shop that has equal customer service, quality, and competitive pricing? Someone referred me to this shop, so I decided to get a quote. This is my first experience with Canyon and it was a memorable one. I worked with the owner on Monday to get a quote, order the part, and get the paint match for my replacement bumper. I get a call the next day and he told me that I can come the next day after work to get it installed. What? So fast? The dealership not only quoted higher than this place, but they said it would take 7 days. This place got it done in 3 business days from quote to completion. The bumper looks like new on my Lexus. BEWARE!!!!!!!! I wouldn't even give one star, Lee (the owner) is a scam artist! I had called requesting a price on a rebuilt engine, and I was told $4,000.00 but for some reason I ended up being charged over $7,000.00. Then, come to find out hey put a USED (not re-built) engine in my car, when my receipt says REBUILT! I had wondered why I needed to pay another $1,500 for a new PCM (computer)? Oh, because the engine was another cars engine, not the rebuilt engine that I paid for....... They also didn't replace the motor mounts that were bad, nor did they advise me they needed replacement. My mounts broke completely on my way to California and my car is now requiring a new transmission because of them not replacing mounts and brackets which would have shown to be bad at the time of replacing the engine. ALSO my axle is now broken because of the engine moving too much due to broken brackets. My windshield was cracked after repairs were done and there were significant damages to my cars exterior. I would not recommend them for anything! Even if other reviews state he's "prompt and courteous" doesn't mean the work will be what you are paying for! Seriously, who enjoys taking their car to the mechanics. You only see them when you know something is truly wrong with your car. It's never good news. But, it's never anyone's fault, but some how you feel they should be kind to you and spare you the pain. I really dislike taking my car in for any reason or any mechanics. But some how, Ross and all the people at Canyon Auto Repair always bring a smile to my face. Not that they give me great news, but they tell me the truth. It's not fun to receive, but it has to be delivered. My BMW decided it's time for a new grill, make that two, and of course the coolant needs two new tubes; better than replacing it. All in all, it's good news. $690 is a lot, but I multiply that by three and I think that's what would happen if I waited any longer. Glad the people at Canyon are friendly and kind enough to help me get my car back to decent shape. I can always take it to my BMW dealer and I"m sure that will be 5x more expensive and 5x more painful. Can't wait to pick it up, tomorrow. read more

After a bad experience with a company claiming to be the "finest in auto repair" turned out to be over priced lairs I called Canyon. Canyon Auto Repair (Beaverton) who refereed me to their Tigard, Both locations were super helpful, friendly and prompt. They towed my car from the other place and worked with my insurance company. I ended up having to total the car because of Leif's... oops.. I mean the other guys over priced quote but Canyon was still great to work with. I took them some cookies when I picked up my belongings from the car. I will miss my Outback ... I loved that car. I will be seeing Canyon next time I need anything. Thanks guys read more

There was a dangerous knocking noise in my car whenever I accelerated. It felt and sounded like the frame might actually break. I took my car to two places who couldn't find the problem Canyon Auto Repair -- my third stop -- figured it out in 10 minutes. And it was very dangerous. The person who changed the timing belt years ago failed to screw the engine mount down in all three places. So one screw was missing, another attachment was broken, and the engine vibrated on acceleration because it was being held down by only one screw.
