I was in Chilliwack meeting a group for a working lunch at the Canton Garden. This was the 3rd time I had to attend a work lunch meeting at this location. The establishment itself is quite large with plenty of free parking and a very convenient location on Yale Road. The staff are quite pleasant and attentive. And I like that they have several lunch specials all with 3 options and for $9. That is the good. Unfortunately the food is not great. The previous reviews and photos of the chow mein are accurate...it is plain noodles with a little dry shredded chicken on top. There was very little flavour to the honey garlic pork and the lemon chicken was a fried mess. I would not recommend Canton Garden if looking for Chinese food in the Chilliwack area. read more

Ask for Little red sauce On the side because my meal was ruined for not having Enough last time on the dinner itself... Got a lecture then finally they said yeah you can have some. When I got home there was no red sauce on the meal itself I just wanted to phone them up them no and they called me a liar... You heard that a liar. I've been coming here for over 40 years since it was located on Airport road and the food is always amazingly fresh and delicious. The waitstaff are always friendly and fast. Portions are large and prices are decent. Best Chinese food I have had next to in actual mainland China. read more

Food came fast and was good, definitely wasn't authentic Chinese but had a similar style. The noodles were good but the bbq pork seemed more like plain pork. The staff were friendly though seemed quite tired. All in all 3-star may come again. read more

Very clean, lots of parking, polite and friendly service, good portions. So why two stars? Even though the meal was a good size there wasn't a lot of value. I ordered the meal for one; pork fried rice, chow main, sweet sour port and almond chicken and the meal was served with a cup of soup broth. Sounds like a lot I know but when you take a plate and load it with noodles and rice, two table spoons of sweet and sour pork and a small thin piece if almond chicken there isn't much value. Even the chow main was weak on ingredients. What I'm saying is that I filled up on fillers.... Noodles and rice. The meal didn't taste bad but it wasn't great either. Kind of bland. I hate complaining about bad food or bad service, but in this case I felt I had no choice. We wanted to have a nice, quiet birthday night and were just treated horribly by the owner of Canton Garden here in Chilliwack. He told me to go ahead and write a bad review online because karma will get me, this after implying that I am a scammer for calling to complain about the food that took over an hour to arrive, was mostly unseasoned, was generally flavorless and utterly disappointing in its entirety. He explained how obviously their style is just different from my taste and that's too bad for me. I asked for even half of my money back so we can pick up something else and he flatly refused, stating over and over that they have a loyal following and have been around for 90 years. The implication that I'm some dumb whitey who knows nothing about Asian food was barely veiled, and when I told him I felt ripped off, he told me to go call the cops. To his credit, he offered to drop off different food for us, but we were all too hungry to wait and, frankly, what he calls their style was too gloppy and unfortunate to attempt again. His bold challenges, prepared explanations for the poor quality and obvious disregard for his customers' experience of his restaurant make it very hard for me to believe they almost never receive complaints and actually put out 600 orders of chow mein per day. As I said to him before I hung up, I don't wish him any ill will but I hope he learns how better to treat his customers. This is absolutely garbage. It's by far the worst 50$ we have ever spent. Didn't eat this crap and now have to cook. How have they been open for so many years. I have never liked them but it's been about 15 years so thought we would try again as capital and moonlilly are closed on a Sunday. How sad. If the owner is reading this I hope you are embarrassed! My favourite Chinese food restaurant around. I live in Langley and I still make an effort to stop by here for great Chinese food. Always pleasant staff with a good clean restaurant. I don't understand the bad reviews at all. Their food is way better than most of the greasy crap I find in Langley and I love their thick noodles on the Chow Mein. No red die number 5 on their Sweet and sour either, just a great tasting family recipe. Always consistent good quality food. My family has frequented the restaurant for 30 years. The Wonton Soup was flavourful, Szechuan Chicken and Ginger Beef with mushroom fried rice delicious: the Sweet and Sour Prawns, not so good. Service was slow but we were initially willing to overlook this. What we couldn't overlook, was waitresses attitude. From the beginning she was curt and abrasive. Both my husband and i found sand in our prawns. When we pointed this out she responded in a hostile manner asking us what we 'wanted her to do about it?' When it came to leaving she commented (in a loud voice) that 'in all the time she had worked there we were 'the first to find sand in the prawns.' Ordered a 4 main dish carry out. Picked it up on time got it home and opened the cartons. Pork chow mien was absolutely dry , bland and zero taste. Chicken ball curry was a bowl of tough chicken wrapped in soft tasteless gross mush. The beef and broccoli had meat that was so chewy and fatty I had to spit it out. Ugh. I grew up in Chinatown, and now I live in Chilliwack. I don't expect the Chinese food to be as good, but this was really disappointing. I ordered chicken chowmein - super dry and didn't taste like much of anything. The Ginger beef was fine - which is, compared to the rest of the meal, a relief. The crab claw ...the crab itself was good, but I truly believe that the coating was Shake and Bake...and not even the name brand version. It was uneven, bland, and just not the right way of doing things. Lastly, my barbecue pork ...I don't think there's anything bbq about it, and honest to God I don't even think it was pork. I felt like I was eating dry roast beef cold cuts from Subway. Anyone ever order roast beef from subway ? Didn't think so. It is not exaggerating to say that this is the worse Chinese food I've ever eaten. Ordered the #2 combination, chow mein, fried rice, sweet and sour pork and almond chicken. It was unappealing from the moment it arrived, from presentation to taste. The only colour on the plate was the sweet and sour sauce. There was not a single vegetable in the chow mein or rice so the plate was all beige and brown. The almond chicken was a thin breaded cutlet that was covered in western style gravy, yes actual gravy. Under the breading it literally looked like a thick slice of chicken sandwich meat. The fried rice did not appear fried at all and as mentioned had nothing in it, aside from a few shreds of chicken cold cut. The chow mein tasted like a flavourless blob of over cooked, bland spaghetti. The sweet and sour pork was dry and flavourless, the sauce was mildly sweet and not at all sour and the best that it could be said for it is that it was red. When the hostess asked how our meal was and I replied "honestly.....?" her face fell and she said "you're from Vancouver aren't you?" this tells me she expects anyone who's ever had decent Chinese food to be disappointed. The sweet and sour pork was a odd brown colour and the pork itself tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave. The breaded prawn was saturated and not at all crispy. Canton Garden has the best servers and the worst cooks. Today 30 Elders had this restaurant's version [read: aversion], of a Christmas turkey dinner. The turkey was tough, cold and greasy, the mashed potatoes were cold, chunky, and smelt-bad, the gravy was white and black, the broccoli was all stem, the salad was a block of head-lettuce without dressing, the dessert looked like something out of the wrong-end of an alien (I didn't touch it). I ate as little as I politely could, and yet this tiny-sample, had me retching for the rest of the evening. And the cost was $40 per Elder with a group-rate, discount! I have rated this restaurant as a "one star," only because there aren't negative ratings. I was in Sudan during the great Darfur mass starvation, when people dinned on dirt-- and in my opinion, that dirt was better than this restaurant's Christmas turkey dinner. read more

Tonight I ordered a takeout/delivery from this restaurant. A few years ago I had eaten there several times and had good memories. However, the last 2 times I ordered, last year I think, I wasn't very happy. Tonight, I decided to try again because I wasn't sure why I had stopped. Now I am sure. The best thing I can say about it was that it arrived hot. After that it sent downhill. The fried rice was unusual, but edible. The honey/garlic wings were so heavy on the garlic that it was all you tasted. The spring rolls were double size and tasted ok, but arrived so soggy that you needed a knife and fork as opposed to fingers. The absolute worst was the wonton soup. Which is normally my favorite thing to order from a Chinese food place. The wontons were ok, and it was hot. However the broth was like dishwater, there were two leaves of broccolli and no visible green onions. I called and let them know my dissatisfaction.
