Every dish we tried was outstanding. No need for me to go into details about each because nothing was less than amazing. This is one of my favorite types of dinning experiences..... Walk up with no reservation, having not looked them up on Yelp and eating a meal so amazing I want to bring all my friends to try it. Here's the situation: We walked from the house to grab some Italian food and the place we were heading to was closed. As we continued walking we ran across Cantinetta which was packed. One thing we've learned when trying to eat in Amsterdam without a reservation, is to at least ask a restaurant if they have any availability before giving up. Another thing we've learned is that if they can make a place for you, take it? They sat the two of us side by side at the bar near the back. On the way from home to the airport, my love and I decided, on spec, to search for a restaurant in the Admirals neighborhood in Amsterdam Oud - West. We agreed that we would settle down wherever we would find a parking spot for our oversized American family van, jokingly called the " rapper's delight - car '. After driving some back and forth, we saw an appropriate spot on the Clerqstraat. From the corner of my eye I spotted an incredibly fun neighborhood place. 'Fun' in this case based on the interior, obviously something I care about as an interior design freak. And what a coincidence that I was graving for a mouthwatering pasta already the whole day long. It proved to be a hit : Cantinetta , wine & pasta. The sweetest personal ( that's a surprise every time, unfortunately) even had reading glasses for me, because I still have to get used to throw those in my bag every day. Black reading glasses for men and red reading glasses for women. We shared the most delectable pieces of lettuce and homemade grilled pizza with anchovies to start with. In addition, a salad with pecorino cheese. As a main course a wonderful pasta vongole and we also ordered the 'pizza bianca ' with olive oil, rosemary and sea salt, because it looked so good at our neighbors. It was also the ultimate excuse for being able to dip it into the pasta sauce . We have been told that the wines are unique here, but we as a non - and moderate drinker, have no experience with it. And last but certainly not least, we ate the most divine cookies ever. A combination of salt, lemon and rosemary. Even just for those, it is worth going back. The only downside I must warn you in advance about, is the fact that your clothes and hair need a thorough wash after visiting their restaurant. Apparently the extraction is not doing it's job so well, as in many restaurants in Amsterdam . Nevertheless, a restaurant that definitely takes a place in my top 10! read more

The pasta was very fresh. You could definitely tell this was their specialty. We ordered the Bianca pizza, the Misticanza Alla Romana, the fusilli pomodoro with mozzarella, and the gnocchi. The gnocchi was on the tough side. The fusilli was perfectly cooked. Overall the service was really good our waitress was very attentive. The only thing was that the food was a bit slow to come out but overall it was worth it. read more

Staying just round the corner we stumbled across this restaurant on Yelp and after seeing a few reviews felt a visit was a must! We luckily managed to sneak a booking last minute but I would recommend booking in advance. Overall this was an excellent meal that I would highly recommend. After a couple of Negronis, We both went straight for main courses first with two high calibre pasta dishes. Had a very traditional italian feel to the food and extremely high standards. Following this our waiter recommended one of the desserts as a must have (there are only two options on the menu) but the dessert we did have (Budino) was SO SO good. We walked past this divine little restaurant while it was closed and spent considerable time trying to find it again. When we did finally locate it the waitress who served us was very competent and relaxed despite the fact it was completely packed. The food was spectacular!!!! Yes we did have to wait a while for it but when it did arrive we were completely blown away at the flavours and large portion we received. My husband and I ended up here one night during our honeymoon in April. We had wanted to avoid Italian, but we were staying nearby and figured it was worth a try. I am SO glad we did! It was fairly early when we went for dinner, so there was no wait and we were seated immediately. The restaurant has cozy ambiance - a little rustic, a little industrial, bright and airy. It felt perfect for our low-key date. I'm a talkative person, so I love how friendly the Dutch are. We were served by the owner herself, and we loved getting to know her. Her passion was obvious, and her expertise appreciated - we loved her wine recommendations and her insights on the menu. If everything else had been terrible, we would come back just for the food alone. The menu was simple, but that made it even better. My pasta was made in-house the same day; the ricotta cheese in my dish was newly delivered, and made only 24 hours ago (it was like eating clouds. I still think about it). It was one of the best meals of our 2 week trip. I'm even happier to say that I have since recommended this place to a friend who recently (June) visited Amsterdam. We are new to the neighbourhood and this is our new favourite local spot. The service is great and the food is excellent. I love the 'wine by the line' for the house wine. And since it's on the end of de Clercqstraat, the outside patio gets sun fairly late into the evening. We took some Italian friends here and it passed their test. They said it was all typical food from around Rome. They found some specialities there that they haven't been able to find outside of Italy. We like to go Sunday nights to get the porchetta special. I've been here twice, the food is fantastic. I love the local cheeses that come on the antipasti plate and the pastas are so fresh!! The wines can be a bit weird, l think the reds are safer than the whites. But the service. Amazing. Some of the kindest friendliest folks. On my most recent visit, one of my dining companions was late, and when her husband called he discovered that she had fallen off her bike and was really upset. She finally made it to dinner, and despite it being a busy Friday the staff gave her bandages, hydrogen peroxide for her hand, helped her apply these things, and then gave her a glass of wine. They were just fantastic. But even when not being Florence Nightingale, very patient, helpful and relaxed even at the busiest times. However, I don't want to detract from the food. It's really great Italian, and I highly recommend a visit! For sure make reservations, it's busy! read more

Amsterdam West has been undergoing some serious gentrification the last 2 years. Just in the past year 4 new restaurants have opened up in short stretch of the De Clercqstraat. A friend and I had wanted to go to Cafe Fier on the same street but it was full and the waiting time for a table was 90 minutes. So off we went looking for somewhere else and stumbled upon this place. The place looked warm and cosy, especially inviting on a cold, rainy night and more importantly they have tables available. The offerings are simple - a good selection of pasta and wine. Not extensive but enough to do the job. All pastas are handmade and they also serve a small selection of pizzas and salads/antipasti. They probably squeeze one too many tables in the small space so you end up sitting less than arm's length with the other diners but that kind of add to the casual vibe of the place. All products that they used are locally (i.e. holland) sourced and organic whenever possible. A great addition to the neighbourhood and certain for some fuss-free good food on a weekend when you don't feel like venturing too far out the city. read more

Delicious! Had the carbonara. Everyone is friendly. One chef so the wait time is lengthy but it's worth the wait. I was even made a special drink because the menu offered nothing sweet enough for me. I joined Yelp just to write this review. I visit Amsterdam every year. This year after visiting a local bookshop I passed by Wine & Pasta, and returned that evening for dinner. What a wonderful restaurant. Being from San Francisco I am always on the lookout for neighborhood restaurants where you are made to feel at home and enjoy great food at the same time. Cantinetta has that perfect combination of ambiance and delicious food, with some great tasting wine as well. You can be sure that when I am next in Amsterdam I will return. read more

Nice place and service but the food is just okay. I had the carbonara and it was a little bit salty. My husband had the pasta arrabiata which was too hot (he really loves spicy food but his dish was REALLY hot!). But our dinner was not a disaster! We loved the antipasto di Cantinetta - with Italian salami, mozzarella, etc - and the dessert, a very special chocolate cake prepared with olive oil. read more

Homemade pasta and guanciale (think pancetta that comes from the pig's cheek). Those two items are enough to provide me with an excellent dining experience but this little gem does not stop there. The ambiance is nice and I love sitting outside on a warm evening. This restaurant is the farthest thing from pretentious. The wine selection is good and not too expensive with the caveat being that I'm not an especially discerning wine drinker. I always have excellent meals here and rave about it to anyone who will listen. If you really enjoy pasta, then you have to give this place a try. read more

We found this restaurant by accident when walking through the neighborhood after a long day of travel. After spending a week in Paris (visiting from Colorado) I was craving something different. The food was fresh and tasty and the service was warm and friendly. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next night even though we were only going to be in Amsterdam for 3 nights.
