Extremely disappointing dining experience at Club Masson.
We paid around $160 for two people for a two-course meal, and the quality of the food was nowhere near what I would expect at that price point.
The arugula salad was quite literally a pile of arugula with vinaigrette. That was essentially it. The rigatoni was undercooked and bland, and the meatball had an unpleasant rubbery texture. Nothing about the meal felt thoughtfully composed, elevated, or particularly well executed. It genuinely tasted like basic ingredients had been quickly assembled and put on a plate.
I'm familiar with upscale and fine dining, and I have absolutely no problem paying a premium for an excellent meal. What bothered me here was the enormous mismatch between the price and what was actually served. At roughly $160 for two people--and with no drinks or dessert included--I expected considerably more care, technique, presentation, and flavor.
The Mountain Winery is such a beautiful setting, which honestly made the food even more disappointing. You are sitting in this gorgeous venue in the mountains expecting the meal to complement the experience, and then you are served food that feels less inspired than something I could easily put together at home.
For perspective, I have had more satisfying Italian food at Olive Garden, at a fraction of the price.
I left feeling genuinely ripped off. An expensive restaurant does not need to be fussy or pretentious, but if you are charging premium prices, the food should offer premium quality and value. This meal simply did not.
The setting may be beautiful, but based on my experience, I would absolutely skip the expensive dining package and eat somewhere else before coming to The Mountain Winery. read more
