Been taking my cavapoo to Canine to Five for grooming for a year. I never had any issues until this past Tuesday. The groomer Lauren said he was matted on his ears and neck so he needed to be short. My son picked up our dog because I was at work. When I arrived home and saw my dog I was FURIOUS! He was hairless to the point you can see his bones. I paid $122 which includes de-matting but he has no hair so what was departed? Literally shaved him bald. I never received a call asking for permission to cut off all his hair. My dog doesn't even look like himself. Every time I look at him I want to cry because I'm so angry. I called to cancel his future appointment and i was asked what happened and did I want to go to another location. No THANK YOU! Will no longer be utilizing their daycare or boarder services either because I don't trust them with my fur child. read more

I'm an Ex-long time customer. Used to take my chichi's there for nail trims. Came in about 2:30 on a Saturday, just missed the cut off for walk in nail trims so I asked the young ladies at the front desk to set an appointment so I could make sure I got in. Burger King customer service is 10x better. The ladies looked at me like I was wasting their time, and rudely gave me a bunch of BS cuz they wanted to shoo me out the door. I had heard great things about Canine to Five and was looking forward to trying them out for a long weekend trip. Upon requesting a reservation, they called to inform me that my dog has to come in for a temperament test prior to the stay. Usually this service is free at most facilities, but they charge a standard daycare fee, so I paid $35. Disappointing that Canine to Five benefits from this regardless of the result of the test, but oh well. When I picked up my dog, he smelled of urine and had a stain on his ear from a cleaning solution. I promptly cancelled my reservation and requested a refund for the temperament test. They did not give me a refund and instead offered a free bath if I ever brought him in again. I mean, okay, but he currently smells like urine - so you're basically asking me to drive all the way back just for a bath - at the end of the day I'm left to correct your error myself. I was pretty disappointed in this outcome - I paid for a service and the quality of the service was extremely low. How can you run a dog daycare facility and not ensure the dog goes home in acceptable conditions? What if a dog gets bruised, bitten, or injured when the staff member wasn't looking? Or steps in another dog's pee? And why is someone mopping floors while dogs are playing? A basic final checkup/inspection is expected when I'm paying someone to take responsibility for my pet while I'm away. Their refusal to compensate with a refund is pretty shocking. I guess we have differing expectations of what good pet care is. Not sending my dog here again. read more

if I could rate them a 0 stars I would. We had taken my dog here multiple times and everything seemed fine. we booked a boarding stay while we would be out of town for 5 days. while we were gone my dog had been attacked at the midtown detroit location in august. they downplayed the situations saying that he didn't get too hurt from the altercation. In reality seeing him in person brought me to tears. I wouldn't have even know he got attacked if it wasn't for me going to look at the cameras at the right time. I got one story when I called and asked what was going on and if he was okay and why the other dog had just attacked mine and then a completely other story when going to pick him up. they said they would let me know how he was doing in the morning since I was out of town and couldn't get him right away. I had NEVER been reached out to like I said I would and when I asked why no one had bothered to get back to me when going in to speak with them I had been told the manager was busy. if anything is more important than my injured dog I would love to know as to what it was. they didn't say sorry about it or even that they would mark down his boarding due to this horrendous incident. They said the other dog was excused from coming back but it doesn't make up for the lack of communication to me and the injuries and anxiety my dog now faces because of it. After this we waited a couple months to bring him to a group play/boarding. instead of going to the detroit location we decided we wanted to do ferndale canine to five since we moved and the last incident made things very hard to get over. we brought him in specifically told them to keep a watch on him especially since it's his first time back and they said he would. they said he did great and he would be fine for when we do have to board him for a couple of days. comes the time for vacation and we get a call saying he was playing with another dog and the dog had nicked him in the face giving him a scratch I told them it was completely understandable he has a white face and things happen and was very grateful for the update. next day comes and they say he seems to be having a lot of anxiety and they might take him to one on one just to calm him down and make sure he's not overwhelmed since it was day 5 since him being there. I was yet again very happy with the communication and had said that I was more than okay with one on one and if it persist and he seems uneasy keep him in there for the duration of the stay. next morning comes and I get a call saying he has been in an altercation ! I was caught off guard because last time I had spoken we had talked about him not being put in group play if he was still anxious and scared from there being so many animals and not being home. they said he was fine and that he wouldn't need to be picked up right away. I still changed my flight to get there as soon as possible. come to get him NO manager comes to help or explain what went on. they had overcharged over 200$ more than what it was suppose to cost and when I had asked for a manager the response was that he had to put it in his group chat for work for the manager to reach out when possible. i've never been to a facility where there is no manager on site. When bringing him home every time he was active and got excited he would cough. I called emergency vets and on monday my vet both said not kennel cough but probably something to do with his throat being injured. Makes sense due to his throat having gauges all down the side of his face and throat. Not only have I yet again have been let down but my dog has too. this time he has been 10x more anxious and it breaks my heart. I will NEVER again take him to this or any other canine to give location. read more

My dog had been to Canine to Five twice before for grooming. The time prior he got a small cut on his pee-pee. I called afterwards to let them know. I should've have known better. In January I took my dog to Canine to Five for grooming I dropped him off and went to RiteAid less than 5 mins away. By the time I got to the store less than 10 minutes after dropping him off they called to ask me to come back because my dog was injured and they couldn't continue to groom him. When I arrived they had my dog at the front desk. He had been "nicked" by the groomer and was bleeding. They thought he might need stitches. I have an 8lb yorkiepoo. He was shaking and bleeding on his belly. When I took him from them to inspect the injury, I saw he was cut and bleeding just above his pee-pee. I started crying and was super upset. The manager was explaining what happened when the owner walked through the lobby. She stops and says "don't cry, if it was my dog I wouldn't be upset". Ok!!!! Well sorry you don't give a crap if your animal was cut with a trimmer less than an inch of its pee-pee and it bleeding. I told them he needed to go to the vet to see if it need stitches. Before I left I said that I will be sending them the bill. They tried to tell me I signed a waiver. I took my little guy immediately to vet. He needed 6 stitches!! He was in so much pain. He had trouble eating and was getting sick. On top of that he had to be completely shaved in the winter. He had to wear onesies all winter was he was completely shaved and it was too cold for him especially since he's only 8lbs I called Canine to Five to give them the vet bill they offered me a credit! I refused. The credit would've meant 3 more visits. I explained that I would never bring my dog back there. I would never allow them to cut him (on his body) or his hair again. The doggy day care is AWESOME. They have late days for people who works outside of 9 to 5 jobs and also if you have an emergency they are willing to help. Please note -- before your dog can stay the night; they most be cleared with paperwork and see how they socialize with other dogs. I just recently came from their Sunday's doggies play-date which was awesome. My puppies and I stayed from 1pm to 3pm at the low cost of $7. The owner cares so much about quality and safety and actually pays for regular, ongoing consulting with a certified behavior consultant to ensure that her staff are the most knowledgeable and skilled handlers in the industry. Took my dogs here for 4 days. 400$ later they came back dirty, one was limping and the other was coughing. We paid for the service that includes brushing, but both our dogs smelled of urine and were incredibly matted. We understand if they've been playing they'd be dirty, but we paid to have them brushed and it was obvious they weren't. The people seemed sorry and the workers seemed to like the dogs, but we've never had our dogs come back in such terrible condition and they've been dog boarding places in MN, A, CT, CA, and FL (we move a lot). This place was by far the most expensive with the worst experience. If you go here, expect your dogs to come back in a poorer condition. read more

I had heard only good things and knew Canine to Five was a popular choice, so I felt confident sending my dog to daycare/evaluation, and then to a one night boarding stay the following weekend. I attempted to speak with the facility manager today and didn't hear anything back, so I'll give my feedback here. The concierge, Kaitlyn, followed up the day after my dog's first day, which I really appreciated. I had called to ask if he could be moved to the low energy "serenity room" several hours after the employees at drop-off told me that low energy dogs who appeared anxious would be accommodated. He was moved, but only after my second request after checking the webcam. I thought this need was understood when I spoke with the concierge and said that my dog needed to be in the more calm environment; she reassured me that it was noted, and scheduled a one-night boarding for the weekend. I was told after boarding pickup that the dogs are not separated into high/low energy groups on the weekends. Had I been made aware, I wouldn't have sent him. The first night of boarding, I received a text asking me to call the facility for a non-emergency issue (dog was licking a sore). I received the message shortly after hours on a Saturday, called twice, left two voicemails, and didn't hear from anyone until the morning. There is no way to contact the facility directly outside of voicemail after hours, which is concerning in the case of an emergency. The morning of pickup, I got a call saying that my dog was extremely distressed and that the supervisor was about to take him to the vet, which I declined because my partner was en route to pick him up. Upon arrival, my dog was hyperventilating, staff said he hadn't been given his anxiety medication, and he was crusted in his own dried urine. He was clearly laying in it in his kennel for some time, so either the dogs aren't checked on periodically, or they are and the issue was ignored. My dog came home with most of his body stained yellow and crusty with excrement. This is absolutely neglectful, and borderline abusive. Staff was prepared to send my dog to an expensive emergency vet but weren't prepared to give him the medicine that was noted at check-in, or to wipe the poor guy off when he got dirty. read more

My husband and I have been sending our dog to Canine to Five for several months now - she participates in the puppy program - and it has been wonderful! She loves it, we can go to work with the knowledge that she is well cared for and happy, and the price is reasonable! We love that we can book nail trims or baths for her if needed, and we can pay for her to have a kong on occasion. I'd definitely recommend anyone to use Canine to Five services! read more

Business owners that care about their clients and dogs would have paid for the vet bill in full, but this owner decided to try and build a case as to why it wasn't their fault.
