    Jaeda

Jaeda always looks and smells amazing. She doesn't like brushes or clippers but they do an excellent job with her grooming.

Penelope ready for the fun to begin!

I have been taking my dogs to this facility for over 10 years. I'm comforted in knowing that when I leave to go out of town, my fur babies will be well taken care of. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the facility is always spotless and my girls are super excited every time they go! I couldn't imagine taking them any place else.

The small cage they stuck my 50-pound dog in next to 2 huge loud drying tubes which freaked him out. He bit the cage and broke his tooth.

Don't ever take your dog here. I dropped my dog Henrik off to get groomed at their Midtown Detroit location recently. The lady at the front desk told me the groomer was ready for him and she took Henrik from me in the lobby. My apartment is a couple of minutes away. As soon as I got home (not even 5-minutes after I dropped him), I got a call saying Henrik had broken his tooth and was bleeding and that they cannot groom him anymore. I got back in my car to go get him. I walked in to find him soaking wet all over his body (they rinsed all the blood off him), and his mouth was gushing blood. They told me that Henrik bit the cage they had put him in because the groomer that took him (who they claimed was ready for him) put him in a cage to finish another dog's nails for "5-mins". I did not drop my dog to get locked/boarded, I dropped him to get groomed, and they told me they were ready for him. I would have waited that "5-mins" in the lobby with him. They told me Henrik must have gotten nervous and bit the cage they put him in, resulting in him deeply fracturing his top right canine tooth. The photo the employee had texted me of the cage (attached) shows me exactly why Henrik would have been scared. They put him in a small barred cage right next to 2 HUGE LOUD DRYING TUBES (to blow-dry the dogs). Clearly not the right cage to put the dogs in. I called my vet (VCA of Farmington Hills) and they told me to take Henrik to the emergency room immediately. I took him to BluePearl in Southfield and they told me there was nothing they could do and that he needed dental surgery, and that he was lucky he didn't break his jaw. The owner of Canine to Five gave me a call per my request and she ended up sending me over a waiver I signed 3 years ago releasing them from any liability. Real sweet of her. I told her about Henrik needing surgery and how they should cover the costs of this since he was in their care when it happened and they were negligent. I asked her how that was ethical as they had been negligent to my dog and she told me Henrik did it to himself.. "self-inflicted". Not to mention the employee I spoke to prior said the drying tubes block the cage Henrik was in from the cameras so I'll never really know what happened. The owner said she has had her business for 15 years and was "confident" in how they handle the dogs and their facilities.. clearly not. I found many other reviews on Google and Yelp of negligence and the owner not caring. I told her that I hope they can make this right. She then gave me her attorney's information. Even sweeter of her. Henrik was crying and kept poking and biting his tongue for days and was gushing blood. I finally took him in for surgery the following Tuesday of the incident and they had to put a tube down his throat and give him anesthesia, and then they had to remove his whole canine tooth due to the fracture being so deep. It was about $1000.  He is barely 4 years old and will live the rest of his life without his canine tooth. Avoid this place if you care about your dog. :)

    bite marks

if I could rate them a 0 stars I would. We had taken my dog here multiple times and everything seemed fine. we booked a boarding stay while we would be out of town for 5 days. while we were gone my dog had been attacked at the midtown detroit location in august. they downplayed the situations saying that he didn't get too hurt from the altercation. In reality seeing him in person brought me to tears. I wouldn't have even know he got attacked if it wasn't for me going to look at the cameras at the right time. I got one story when I called and asked what was going on and if he was okay and why the other dog had just attacked mine and then a completely other story when going to pick him up. they said they would let me know how he was doing in the morning since I was out of town and couldn't get him right away. I had NEVER been reached out to like I said I would and when I asked why no one had bothered to get back to me when going in to speak with them I had been told the manager was busy. if anything is more important than my injured dog I would love to know as to what it was. they didn't say sorry about it or even that they would mark down his boarding due to this horrendous incident. They said the other dog was excused from coming back but it doesn't make up for the lack of communication to me and the injuries and anxiety my dog now faces because of it. After this we waited a couple months to bring him to a group play/boarding. instead of going to the detroit location we decided we wanted to do ferndale canine to five since we moved and the last incident made things very hard to get over. we brought him in specifically told them to keep a watch on him especially since it's his first time back and they said he would. they said he did great and he would be fine for when we do have to board him for a couple of days. comes the time for vacation and we get a call saying he was playing with another dog and the dog had nicked him in the face giving him a scratch I told them it was completely understandable he has a white face and things happen and was very grateful for the update. next day comes and they say he seems to be having a lot of anxiety and they might take him to one on one just to calm him down and make sure he's not overwhelmed since it was day 5 since him being there. I was yet again very happy with the communication and had said that I was more than okay with one on one and if it persist and he seems uneasy keep him in there for the duration of the stay. next morning comes and I get a call saying he has been in an altercation ! I was caught off guard because last time I had spoken we had talked about him not being put in group play if he was still anxious and scared from there being so many animals and not being home. they said he was fine and that he wouldn't need to be picked up right away. I still changed my flight to get there as soon as possible. come to get him NO manager comes to help or explain what went on. they had overcharged over 200$ more than what it was suppose to cost and when I had asked for a manager the response was that he had to put it in his group chat for work for the manager to reach out when possible. i've never been to a facility where there is no manager on site. When bringing him home every time he was active and got excited he would cough. I called emergency vets and on monday my vet both said not kennel cough but probably something to do with his throat being injured. Makes sense due to his throat having gauges all down the side of his face and throat. Not only have I yet again have been let down but my dog has too. this time he has been 10x more anxious and it breaks my heart. I will NEVER again take him to this or any other canine to give location.

    Dog cut at groomer
    MelaCat R.

My dog had been to Canine to Five twice before for grooming. The time prior he got a small cut on his pee-pee. I called afterwards to let them know. I should've have known better. In January I took my dog to Canine to Five for grooming I dropped him off and went to RiteAid less than 5 mins away. By the time I got to the store less than 10 minutes after dropping him off they called to ask me to come back because my dog was injured and they couldn't continue to groom him. When I arrived they had my dog at the front desk. He had been "nicked" by the groomer and was bleeding. They thought he might need stitches. I have an 8lb yorkiepoo. He was shaking and bleeding on his belly. When I took him from them to inspect the injury, I saw he was cut and bleeding just above his pee-pee. I started crying and was super upset. The manager was explaining what happened when the owner walked through the lobby. She stops and says "don't cry, if it was my dog I wouldn't be upset". Ok!!!! Well sorry you don't give a crap if your animal was cut with a trimmer less than an inch of its pee-pee and it bleeding. I told them he needed to go to the vet to see if it need stitches. Before I left I said that I will be sending them the bill. They tried to tell me I signed a waiver. I took my little guy immediately to vet. He needed 6 stitches!! He was in so much pain. He had trouble eating and was getting sick. On top of that he had to be completely shaved in the winter. He had to wear onesies all winter was he was completely shaved and it was too cold for him especially since he's only 8lbs I called Canine to Five to give them the vet bill they offered me a credit! I refused. The credit would've meant 3 more visits. I explained that I would never bring my dog back there. I would never allow them to cut him (on his body) or his hair again. And I expected to have the full cost of vet bill paid. The manager called the next day and sent me a check. I will never take my dog there and you shouldn't either!! Beware

    This is my dog Kato!

I absolutely love Kato's Haircut. I've been bringing him to Canine to Five for some years now. For most He always looks this way if he's not too matted and has to get most of his hair off. He surely beat the pandemic. He went looking rough but came out looking fabulous. Thanks Canine to Five

This is Naz. He had a great stay with Canine to Five

Can't say enough good things about this warm , friendly welcoming staff. Clearly every member of the team loves animals. Naz is a big super excitable , puppy . Despite jumping up to greet every body he met. Not once did I see anything but a loving smiling greeting in return . Thanks So Much

The doggy day care is AWESOME. They have late days for people who works outside of 9 to 5 jobs and also if you have an emergency they are willing to help. Please note -- before your dog can stay the night; they most be cleared with paperwork and see how they socialize with other dogs. I just recently came from their Sunday's doggies play-date which was awesome. My puppies and I stayed from 1pm to 3pm at the low cost of $7. I highly recommend especially if you are trying to get your dog socialize. (Believe me -- it does take alot of work)

My dog loves going to this daycare and it's a very friendly place. The workers are lovely. Wish that training services were included.

When we pull up, they get super excited and rush to exit our car and see their human and fur friends. My first visit, when I toured, yes it was lots of loud dog barking and I remember feeling a little sad like oh am I taking them to the pound. Okay look the dogs are barking, because of "we the people". I had to think about this. When my own 2 dogs have a new guest here they start "going crazy" frankly lol. And when I walk the neighborhood, dogs that were otherwise chilling, you know what they do as people jog, walk by their turf? Many of them run to the living room window and yap yap. Imagine this multiplied by all doggies together at once getting excited. It can get loud. Ask a parent with multiple small kids or any teacher/daycare provider of little kids.... it's not always prim and proper! But everyone is safe and loved. Same here- enough said! The staff is smart, nice and caring and does their job. The rates afford my little ones to get social interaction. This is not a place that tries to be foo-foo fancy bells and whistles dog castle... extra money... just for some BS to be going once you're gone. They are low frills but DEFINITELY not NO frills as they have huge play area and an indoor pool which I can't wait for my dogs to get lessons in. Do yourself a favor. Become a customer, get in their books with the required documents, get your dog acquainted with a couple visits of daycare so you can feel confident and everything's in order for when the time comes and you need overnight boarding for some travel! Paws Out.
