Words truly cannot express how grateful I am for Pet Suite Retreat (PSR). I've trusted them with my fur babies in Inkster for years, and they have never let me down. Recently, my mother was hospitalized and needed time to recover in a skilled nursing facility. She boarded her dog, Niko, at a place in Troy close to her home. Niko has a history of seizures, and he had a small episode while he was there. The facility called to say they were not comfortable keeping him and that she needed to find alternate arrangements. My mother was already overwhelmed with her own health issues, and the added stress of finding a safe place for Niko was heartbreaking. I immediately called PSR, and they were just as incredible as I remembered. I spoke with Lace--who also worked at the Inkster location and even remembered my long‑lost baby Bella. She went out of her way to pick up Niko herself and made sure he had a safe, secure, loving place to stay. My gratitude for PSR runs deeper than words. Chewie absolutely loves being at Pet Suite in Troy. When he gets there, it's like we don't exist anymore. He's that happy to get in the door. Clearly everyone there loves pets and understand what we humans might be concerned about. When Chewie needed meds after a surgery, the caretakers were meticulous about following the vet's instructions. Lately we've been dropping him off once or twice a month for daycare, just so he can romp with all the other dogs. It's fun to watch him on the camera. We did a lot of research into a place to board our cats during a renovation. We were explicit during our tour of the Troy location that we wanted our cats kept to themselves (no socialization with others) and were shown one of the private suites. The room we were shown was empty, and we were told they would set it up with cat trees, toys, litter box, food, and water - and that the staff would visit and play with them multiple times a day. This all seemed perfect and the pricing was fair. We made our reservation about 3 months prior to the dates we needed, and got confirmation the same day. About a week before our drop-off, we contacted them just for piece of mind to re-confirm, and were told that our cats were to be housed in what they called the "social cat room" - a single room that multiple cats from other homes all were to share. Prior to this, we'd never heard of such a thing - their website doesn't mention any of this, and indicates that every room ("Pet Suite") is private, and like I said, during our visit we were only ever shown a single, private room. Speaking to the attendant and then the manager, they were not accommodating to our needs, saying that all the private rooms were booked and that the common room was our only option. Even though we reserved months ago, they refused to cancel any of the more recent reservations in order to honor their commitment to us. They blamed us for not explicitely telling them that we wanted a private room, which is a lie because on our visit we were clear, and their reservation form doesn't have any space to note private vs common room - all indications were that "Pet SUITE Retreat" ONLY has private rooms. This was clearly a bait & switch technique and money grab - since if we'd just brought them on the original date, we would have had literally no choice but to leave them in this Thunderdome unsupervised overnight for them to potentially be hurt by other cats. Now, at least we have a little time to find someplace else, but this last minute change is going to be very costly for us and uncomfortable for our cats. Beware this company - they claim to love pets, but are too happy to see my cats have to be caged in a kennel, instead of having a comfortable stay in a private room that they promised. read more

Fantastic place!!! I boarded my birds here while we were moving. I was a little sad about boarding them so long until I saw the incredible care and love the staff gave to my birds. I ran into issues with bringing my bunnies over due to airlines being ridiculous. The staff was flexible, understanding, and worked with me. I'm so happy to know that there's a wonderful facility like this where I can board my munchkins worry free for reasonable prices!! (Also I think it's super cool that the bunnies can run around in a half suite!). I will definitely be back! read more

I contacted Pet Suite Retreat about a week before planning to be in Troy visiting family for Thanksgiving. They welcomed our APBT mix and he enjoyed his black Friday daycare visit very much. We will definitely bring him back when we visit Troy in the future. read more

I'm sorry I was rude about my dog getting kennel cough. We are unable to have any kids and my dog is my everything. I am very protective of her. In a way she is all we have. Also my vet very kindly in a nice way pointed out I was being too harsh. I am upset my pet got kennel cough and I DO Think she got it here. She hasn't been anywhere else recently to contract it... however my vet assured me it's not the end of the world it happens. I'm upset to see her sick and I'm upset I had to pay a big fat vet bill but life goes on. I gave 3 stars because there should be better protocol in my opinion. My dog was very noticeably sick and I'm wondering how it went unnoticed ? She was sick pretty much immediately after getting her home. I wish someone called me. I would of left camping to come get her. It's hard to believe she was fine there and suddenly sick after picking her up. I do think the staff is friendly and the facility is clean! Kennel cough is airborne so it has nothing to do with cleanliness. I won't be back just because I'm very nervous to have this happen again. Im more comfortable with a sitter that comes to the house. I do think this place is overall fine but just not for us. The kennel runs were spacious, I liked that the dogs weren't cramped in a small space...Athena did enjoy the girls here and play time but we're deciding to go our separate ways just to be more cautious. Moving forward please examine dogs before boarding them and please be more cautious to try to avoid this. I know it happens but more caution and more protocols are needed. My moms dog daycare upnorth has mega protocol and is extremely careful to attempt to prevent this. Thank you for being kind to my dog despite me being upset. read more

My very affectionate cat was there for 2 weeks, and when I went to pick her up she has scratch marks on her nose, bite marks on her ear, and was hissing and growling underneath a structure in the building. When I asked for her, the two young men just kind of laughed that they couldn't figure out how to get her out. My cat looks like she hasn't eaten since she got there. This place was not a retreat, it was a nightmare and I will never go there again!! read more

I was dissapointed by Pet Suite Retreat today. I've taken my two dogs there once already and previously liked it. They stayed two nights this past weekend and when I picked them up this time my older dog was returned with all of her canned food unopened. She was supposd to be fed 3/4 a can in the morning with dry and 3/4 at night with dry. When I looked in her bag four cans were full and the fifth one was only half empty, which I was told by the girl at the front desk she gave her just this morning. There was also a lot of dry food left which should have been gone for two dogs if they were both eating it. It just makes me worried they were not fed, and it also makes me worried she was not given her medicine that she can not abruptly stop. I was also told that my smaller dog's vaccines were out of date which I left copies of when I initally dropped them off. I will unfortunately have to look elsewhere next time :( read more

I spent a good month looking for a place to board my two dogs for a 12 day trip. After visiting 10+ facilities in the area, I decided on Pet Suite Retreat. We've left our dogs here for camp several times now, as well as 3 overnight stays and everyone loves the place! They have a ton of staff members who are some of the friendliest animal lovers I've ever met. The place is huge, the rooms are nice, and they don't just toss the dogs into a room for hours; there's indoor and outdoor play areas, they get plenty of breaks, and I've even heard my dogs romped around in the pool. The only downside is the lack of overnight care, so if you're apprehensive about your dog being kenneled alone overnight, you may want to look elsewhere. Long story short? I work at another facility with overnight boarding and day care and STILL take my dogs to Pet Suite Retreat. The prices and service are great, and my dogs love coming. read more

I took my dog here for daycare on a weekly basis for 2 years until he was attacked by another dog, an incident that was handled very poorly. I got a call that he had a cut on his nose that they thought might have been from a break in the fence. I pick him up to find cuts on his nose, throat, and leg- confirmed by the vet as bite marks. I call back for an explanation and no one knows what happened because no one was outside with the dogs. I just assumed that was a given for doggie daycare, but it sounded like that isn't their policy and no apology/plans on changing that. I understand that a fight can break out at any time between dogs even with careful screening. But that's why someone needs to be supervising, to intervene immediately before there are serious injuries. Now my dog is left with a permanent scar on his face and fear of other dogs. Used to love play dates and the dog park... now he whimpers and begs to be picked up. 4 months later and I still find myself holding a scared 50-pound baby as he's shaking in my arms. We loved this place, but safety should be first priority and discovering that dogs are left unsupervised was a deal-breaker. read more

Love the fact that we can leave our vehicle there when we fly out of town and can have them pick us up at the airport and retrieve our dogs right away. I took my pets here when my husband and I went on our honeymoon. When we came back my cats paws were pee stained and my dogs and their beds were covered in pee! Pet Suite Retreat is truly amazing. I just recently started a new job which meant both my boyfriend and I would be away from home from 8am-6pm during the week, so we knew we had to start looking around for daycares for our 8 month old puppy, Apollo. I was very leery and nervous about putting him in daycare at first (my family dogs were never in daycare/boarded) but I'm so happy this place exists. The first day I went in, they gave me a tour, talked about prices, answered all of my questions and let Apollo run around for a bit outside. They let me drop Apollo off for a few hours for free over the weekend so they could get to know him and his temperament before letting him play with the other dogs, which I thought was amazing. Every time I bring him in, the ladies behind the desk are so sweet and so excited to see him. I am very relieved to know that he's well taken care of during the day and not stuck at home alone. The best part of all of this is Apollo is absolutely exhausted when he gets home from playing all day and sleeps through the night like a baby! Was very hesitant to leave my 11 lb. Bichon/ Shih Tzu mix for daycare. After visiting five different places I decided this was the best one for her. On her first day she agreed because she pulled me into the building. I want her to be socialized with other dogs but I also want her to be with dogs that she gets along with not just thrown in with dogs because they are the same size as her. Pet suite retreat allows her to comfortably socialize, and have down time when it is needed. If you are looking for a place to take your dog for daycare I highly recommend Pet Suite Retreat. Update: I boarded my dog for the first time here for a week. When I called to check in on her and make sure that she had enough food, (otherwise I would have had someone else bring more up) the guy who answered the phone didn't know anything about my dog or who she was, which made me a little uneasy. He asked and said she was going well so I let it go. I also paid for her to be groomed, which was to be done on Friday and I was to pick her up on Sunday. When I picked her up she was fine, but smelled of urine so the first thing I had to do when we got home was give her a bath, after paying for her to have had one two days before. When she got home her stomach was upset. I will bringing her here for daycare but will not be boarding her here again. The difference between daycare and boarding for her is with daycare she usually plays with the dogs behind the counter, where when she was boarded she was in a cage. read more

I needed a place for my reactive, currently in heartworm treatment, recently adopted GSD when I took my son to college. The staff at PSR were SO nice to her. Don't let the little "cells" freak you out. The dogs get lots of interaction, and the staff care about the dogs. I tried to get her a suite but they were all booked, and I think it was better that she was near a bunch of other dogs for company. They groomed her (costs extra), and when I got there she was thrilled to see me, but very happy. They let you bring whatever you can fit in the little dog room to make the dogs feel at home. It is never easy to part with your pet. My home was undergoing renovation and I looked at several places. Pet Suite was reasonable, however they went far beyond that, they care. The staff really loves animals. I left my cat aprox. 6 weeks, which of course seemed like a lifetime. I was able to visit him and many times when I would show up they were playing with him. They really gave him lots of love and attention. I was also very impressed at how clean they keep the rooms and facilities. I actually think when I took my cat home, the staff missed him, that is how much they love working with their pets. They truly love their jobs and pets. read more

I brought my French Bulldog puppy here to be boarded for 24 hours. I was thrilled when they said they would take him even though he wasn't neutered yet (that was happening one week later). I trust that my dog was well taken care of and am confident that the employees cared about his welfare. This is the first and only place that I have boarded my dog, so I don't have a lot to compare it with, but the facility seemed nice. The nice girl behind the counter offered to give me a tour when I arrived, which I appreciated so that I could see where he would be staying and playing. They have a nice outdoor area with AstroTurf ground and kiddie pools for them to play in. They separate the small dogs from the large dogs and the "non-social" dogs even have their own area. One thing that I believe could use some improvement is their communication. I faxed in my application and never heard back. I left a couple voicemails and finally my call was returned. They said that they had him in the book to be boarded the day I needed. I had no idea that he had been accepted or if they even had my desired date available! They didn't tell me what to bring so I did have his food but was unaware that I could bring a bed/blankets for him (we had him boarded for training awhile back and they didn't allow these things). I felt so bad that I didn't bring his bed but they said they had extras, so that was okay. I asked them to give him a pill in the evening, which they said was a $2 charge - fine by me. However, when I picked him up, they did not charge me the extra $2 so me it made me wonder if they really gave him the pill or not. Additionally, I would've loved to hear about how his stay was, if he made a friend, etc. I know that some daycares will write you a little report letting you know a schedule of what he did during his stay. Also I saw a review below mine that said they do have a camera feed set up - I would've LOVED to know this and spy on him a little. Now that I have done this once, I will return to Pet Suite Retreat next time we need to board my dog and I have no question that it will be more seamless now that I know what to expect! read more

Pet Suite Retreat in Troy is great! Everyone there is very friendly and you can just tell they love dogs. I've only been there twice, but both times I felt very comfortable leaving my dog for day care. She gets plenty of exercise and playtime, and I especially like the individual suites for each dog instead of the "all-day group play" some day care centers promote. I had an excellent experience and felt they knew exactly what was happening to my dog and thus supplied the proper amount of care in any given situation. I recently had my two dogs stay at Pet Suite Retreat (Troy) two weekends in a row when I had to be out of town. I was very impressed by the cleanliness and size of the facility and the large, fenced-in backyard areas that the dogs can play in throughout their stay. Both dogs were able to stay in the same kennel and I was able to bring in a bed and blanket from home to make them more comfortable. I also loved that every attempt is made to get the dogs outside and running around up to eight times a day so they are not just sitting in their kennel all day, and for no additional charge unlike some other boarding places. At first I was a little uneasy about there not being someone on-site 24/7 but the staff quickly put me at ease by explaining the security and anti-fire measures they have in use. After both weekends my dogs came home happy, healthy, and tired from their fun weekend away. I will definitely be using them again in the future! read more
