This was around 9am and we were the only people there other than the staff - which we only saw 2 people. While our dog was getting evaluated and we filled out paperwork, I was observing the dog play area. There were 2 piles of poop in there when we arrived. I don't know how long they'd been there already. But 20 minutes later as we were getting ready to leave, those 2 piles had turned into at least 4 piles (that I could see). Nobody appeared to been observing the dogs let alone cleaning up after them. I asked the person at the front desk (asst. mgr?) about cleanup and he didn't seem at all concerned. He basically said someone comes around once in a while to clean up. Thankfully, my dog is not a poop eater - although I've had dogs in the past that were - and I can understand sometimes it may take a few minutes to get to cleanup. But this was just nasty. I wanted to like this place because our dog loves to play and is very spirited with other dogs. This chain seems to have a philosophy of letting dogs be dogs and regulate their own play unless things get out of hand. I think that's ideal as long as the dogs are screened first and are being monitored so someone can step in quickly if needed. I was just not confident that would happen here. The last straw for me was when my dog passed the evaluation but the staff member talked about sometimes using "corrections" with dogs. I am a believer in force-free training (positive reinforcement), and I understand there might need to be exceptions needed for emergencies when dogs must be separated quickly, but I'm just not ok with strange men giving my 16 pound dog a "correction" of any kind. Google the term if you want to know what it might mean, or better yet ask Hounds Town and make sure you're comfortable with it. They don't have live camera feeds available like some other places, so you are putting your trust in them, and if this was how things when down when they had a first time potential client, I can't imagine how much worse things might be at other times. We have tried 4 local places and still feel I haven't found the ideal doggie day care / boarding place. There have been a couple of acceptable ones, but this one would be a last resort for us.

We arranged for overnight pet sitting, and a daily walk/visit in the middle of the day. Leasa and Holly came over before our trip to meet the dogs and get a tour of the house. Our smaller dog warmed right up to Holly and fell asleep snuggling her before the end of the visit. During the meet and greet, they took very detailed notes about EVERYTHING including where to find the food, where the leashes were stored, typical walking routes, etc. By the end of the visit, we felt very good about our decision to have them watch the pups. Wow! They did such am amazing job watching our two dogs over a long weekend. They not only took great care of our animals, but they watched over our house too. Very trustworthy and they came to our house three times a day to play with the dogs, refill food/ water bowls and even picked up the dog droppings in the yard. Everyday they wrote down notes on how the dogs were that day. They even texted us throughout the weekend to let us know everything was going well. We have a Maltese and a Great Dane to take care of, which are not the easiest dogs to handle in the world. Overall they get 6 stars out of 5. Even though my chihuahua is completely bipolar (His alter ego had been named "Frank" by Marianne and her crew) and can be the nicest sweetest little dude one minute and a total @$$ the next, he is still so very well taken care of, loved, and played with. I absolutely love Marianne and her staff! They are not only reliable, but they are trustworthy. I'm never home when she/they come by. In the warmer months they go for 30 minute walks, in the winter time, she stays inside and plays with them and lets them go potty in my backyard. When I go out of town, she will come by morning, noon, and night to let them out, feed and water them. She sometimes will fill my water dish if I didn't realize it was running low. She is so unbelievable with my pets, I really don't even know how to express it. She has such a strong love and devotion to animals... Sometimes I will take in foster dogs, and she will take just as wonderful care of them as well. She walks all of the dogs together, plays with them all together, and doesn't charge me extra. Santa is going to be good to her this year.

There's a web cam in the room so I could check on them whenever I wanted, and they always looked content. They got plenty of attention and the price is extremely reasonable -- much cheaper than boarding services where they'd be stuck in a cage all day. Eve also used to do home visits with my previous cat and did a great job with him. She is very trustworthy and reliable, with good communication. Highly recommended!
