Don't waste your money! Wish I had read the horrible reviews but I had brought a dog for training many years ago and had a stellar experience so I didn't do any research this time around. That teacher is no longer there, wish I had known. No mention of what to bring to first class, luckily I had a sense of what to bring. Class was lackluster, nothing you couldn't get from any book. Play time the first class was pretty successful but at the second class things got a little too heated and when I asked for help breaking it up the teacher instead just kept shaming me and belittle what was happening. To be clear, I bring my puppy to the dog park often and know dogs can play rough but when there is BLOOD on your dogs ear, a HUMAN gets BIT it's time to break it up and not go into the origin of the word BITCH. You sign away any chance of putting responsibility on Canine Mastery so I wasn't willing to see how far this was going to go so I picked up my puppy. Teacher immediately tells the class that's the worst thing you can do but what choice did I have if they were not going to help. The next day I reached out to have a discussion and despite not feeling heard I was fine to return to class the following week. Then I got a giddy call from the teacher/ owner that she had called most everyone on the class to get their sense of the situation. How disappointing and disgusting!! They didn't see the look in my puppy's eyes as she was darting for help nor did they see the gash in her ear that took a solid MONTH to fully heal. If you do decide to take a chance I would ask for teaching credentials because I doubt they exist. read more

About 10 1/2 years ago, a good friend and dog trainer (Anne) recommended Canine Mastery (CM) to me. Since then, I have taken two puppies through all their puppy classes, and three dogs have regularly attended agility classes. This week, yet another puppy completed Puppy Kindergarten and will commence with future courses in....well, I haven't decided that yet because CM has so much to offer. This place is amazing. I have had classes with the owner, Kathy (Puppy Kindergarten), and several of other instructors including Kathleen (for other puppy classes) and Joy (for trick classes) most recently. Even with my reactive dog, Kathleen was instructive, professional, and patient. Deb is by far the most patient agility instructor I know. She gets to know every dog and every human client so well that I feel like I'm taking private lessons even when I'm not. She knows that I like homework so she's always giving me ideas about things I can do to make improvements even in the dead of winter in the house. I really appreciate the non-judgmental atmosphere there because let's face it, we are not all the best at this stuff. You just can't get a bad instructor at Canine Mastery. An added bonus taking classes at CM is the other clients. They are so supportive and enjoy their classes so much that you get to see the best side of people with whom you take classes. I always feel like I know the other people in my classes even when I really only know their dog's names (shhh, don't tell them I don't know their names). Whenever I have a question about bad weather cancelations, or anything else, I email Joy or Deb and voila! I get an immediate answer. I wish every business were this responsive. Could you imagine cable companies or doctors doing that? You never feel like you're left out in the cold at CM. Let's talk about money. I have taken classes even recently at other facilities just to try them out and every one of them has been more expensive. (Hey CM, don't get any ideas!). Moreover, I felt a little less able to connect with them when necessary, and sometimes their teaching styles have been a bit too competitive for me. That said, most of the agility students in Deb's agility classes are competing with the best of them and making good headway. It's all about what you want to get out of your training for CM, and of course, what's best for your pup. Who knows, maybe my new pup will be into nose work or something else I've never tried before. Regardless, I know exactly where to go to learn something new. Canine Mastery is indeed just that - masters at working with you and your dogs. I strongly advise against using this facility for your dog's care or training. My experience with both their daycare services and agility classes was extremely disappointing, especially compared to other providers I've used in the past. I have previously utilized various dog daycares and training services across different states due to frequent relocations for work, and I've never encountered issues like this before. The staff and owners at this facility were consistently rude, condescending, and even mocked my dog. After his first daycare session, I received a call informing me that my dog was "humpy," and they wanted to crate him rather than let him play. When I asked if he was causing problems with other dogs, they admitted he wasn't, but still insisted on crating him. I expressed that I didn't want him crated unless absolutely necessary and suggested temporary separation if needed. Despite this, I later noticed my dog frequently came home with scratched, blistered, and occasionally bleeding paws (photos attached). These injuries only occurred after his daycare visits. The final straw came on New Year's Eve. I scheduled daycare in advance and was assured they would maintain their regular hours despite the holiday. On the day of, I dropped my dog off at 7:30 AM and headed to work. Around an hour later, I received a call from an employee laughing, saying they were closing at 3 PM instead of 5 PM because she had dinner reservations at 4:30. When I explained I couldn't pick him up until 4 PM and that I wasn't informed of the early closure, she rudely responded, "There's a sign on the door I put up at 8 AM. You should have read it." Since I dropped him off before 8 AM, there was no way for me to know. She continued laughing and dismissively said, "That's not my problem. You need to pick him up at 3." I had to leave work early, use PTO, and inconvenience my manager to resolve this. Hoping for a better experience, my fiancé and I decided to give their agility classes a chance, as they had positive reviews for those services. Unfortunately, this was another disappointment. The instructor, Kathy, was disorganized, impatient, and frequently made passive-aggressive remarks to both owners and dogs. Her demeanor created unnecessary stress during classes. After attending only two of the six prepaid classes, we decided to withdraw. Although the class package cost $180, we didn't request a refund, as I had already seen other reviews reporting similar issues with refunds. Overall, this facility has consistently demonstrated poor communication, unprofessional behavior, and a lack of care for both dogs and their owners. NEVER EVER! HORRIBLE! Ruined my dog! Now is fearful of any dog. Brought her there to socialize her. Now I have to keep her from other dogs. Had the worst experience with the socializing program and the woman running the program thought it was funny. She said here comes Rosie, this should be fun. That dog (hugely larger, attacked my dog). She ran outside the walls and pooped under a shelf. I asked the woman for cleaning supplies. She gave me a snack size ziplock bag and a pocket tissue. Discussting! This place is horrid. Kathy the owner/trainer kept calling my dog a fu%*ing jerk last class and provoking him to bite her telling me to allow it not to stop him and if he didn't back down to her he was going to think it was ok to bark at everyone. If you were in my face calling me a fu%*ing jerk id hate you too! When i asked her to stop her response was "well he's being an a$$, he is a fu^&ing jerk" literally cussing in class! How unprofessional!! She doesn't answer questions she redirects and makes condescending remarks almost trying to belittle you and doesn't properly explain how to correct problem behavior. Wouldn't recommend this facility to anyone with a protective breed. What a nightmare! Already found a new trainer and my dog with one class with the new trainer is already making much more progress! read more

After completing my puppy kindergarten class at Canine Mastery I'm going to have to take away a star. I still love the facility for its puppy playgroups - I highly recommend them, and saw firsthand how a puppy that was over-exuberant in the small dogs/young pups class was asked to start coming to the 10am class for older pups/mid-sized dogs. I would give the place a 4- or 5- star rating for its facility, playgroups, and daycare (most of the time the dogs are outside, which they love) However, I was disappointed with the training class. I think the owner/trainer has done them too many times, and does too many at once. There is a set order and phrasing she uses, with little room for change. There is time for questions in each session (which is great!), but if you ask a question be prepared to rephrase it and/or explain yourself because the answer you receive is likely to (a) not initially answer the question you asked, until you push for it, and (b) be very condescending. Additionally, due to shoddy record keeping our entire group missed a session's worth of training. Two classes in a row covered the same material because the trainer hadn't realized where we were in the sequence. Because of her generally condescending attitude those of us who recognized her turns of phrase the second time around weren't comfortable saying anything until the next week. She said that since we didn't tell her it was too bad for us, and didn't offer to refund us a session or give us an extra class. Since puppy classes aren't entirely representative of more advanced training classes, and there are other trainers, I might still consider going back in the future - but it won't be the first place I look. read more

I have been visiting Canine Mastery regularly for many years. I have taken my dog to many classes, and have attended puppy play times on Saturdays. I couldn't be happier with the professionalism and knowledge the teachers and staff have. I have a friend who brings her dog to the Daycare and she told me she could not live with out it!!! I wish I could give no stars, as I hope this speaks volumes to those who are considering taking their dog to this dreadful place. To start the owner, and her employees are inexplicably rude, they have horrible attitudes, and most of the time arrive late (after 7am) so I am left waiting in the parking lot till they arrive. When picking my dog up from daycare I have noticed a few concerning things, scratches on his belly, (multiple times) excessively dirty, wet paws, and some scratches in his ears. While I normally chop this up to rough play time, after the events of today it makes me think a bit harder about those instances. Today I took my dog in for a half day of daycare, I got a call about two hours later, saying my dog had gotten into a fight with another dog, and that I needed to come Pick him up. Of course I rushed over, and was very concerned why this had happened, because my dog has been going here for months, and this has never happened, and we also go to the dog park on a very regular basis, and have had no instances like this. If this had happened before, I would not be so livid at the situation. As I asked the lady what had happened, I got a story that I couldn't even believe I was hearing. She told me that they were introducing another dog into the pen, which means the dog was in a holding pen, until he was let in. My dog ran up to the gate and started barking, along with another dog. She continued by saying that my dog continued to bark, but they let the new dog In to the pen anyway. To which my dog responded by lashing out at the dog next to him. I do not understand why they wouldn't remove both my dog and the dog next to him, before letting this new dog into the pen, because they obviously didn't feel comfortable with the new dog. Why the hell would you let this dog in when two dog were barking at him. These ignorant people put not only my dog at risk, but also two other dogs at risk. They had a responsibility to protect all these dogs, and did not do that. With all their dog knowledge they claim to have, you would assume that they could handle a situation like this better, and without putting these dog in harms way. I will never ever go back there, no will I ever recommend this awful place to anyone. I am appalled by the lack of supervision the dogs have, as well as the lack of professionalism from the owner and employees. For your dogs saftey look into a different daycare, because this one will be nothing but issues. read more

I love this place and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. We recently adopted a german Shepard puppy and were recommended canine mastery. We took the puppy kindergarten class which I found very helpful. Sue, the trainer, was awesome. She knew her stuff and was willing to answer any questions we had. Now we go to the puppy play groups on Saturday morning and our pup loves it!!! It's really helped at socializing her. I'm glad we made the choice to go there. read more

Be very careful when bringing your dog for Puppy Playtime on Saturdays. We had to remove our 7 month old Wheaten after a bunch of dogs that were way too big for the class began ganging up on smaller dogs, including ours. When we saw one dog hiding under a chair get nipped, we told the owner, who was present but not in the room, about the situation. She agreed the big dogs were too big for that group, but she would not remove them. So we left and we will not go back. The whole point of this kind of thing is to have the dogs have a good time, not to be scared. read more

Update: the teAcher called and offered me a short private session as a makeup class. Fair, but I could not schedule it. Our teacher (who is good with the dogs) cancelled a class. I cannot attend the makeup class scheduled the week after we were supposed to end. I called (twice) to see what arrangements could be made to reimburse me for the missed class. Noone called me back after my first message. Second time I called the owner was rude and snappy as we tried to work out something. I had to ask her twice to calm down. If I can schedule a time to go up and meet with the instructor for a short session I can get my money's worth, but it means driving a half hour for 15 minute session. Also I am travelling a lot these coming weeks and would prefer a refund for that class. Absolutely not!! Said the owner. She compared it to there being a huge snow storm and the class having to be rescheduled. She was so impatient! I am so disappointed. read more

I dropped my German Shepherd off at CM's day care last month. When I picked her up, they told me she had been in a "scuffle" with another GS. They said it wasn't her fault, and she didn't appear to have been bitten. They did ask if she was sensitive on her right side. I thought it might be a tender hip issue and said sometimes. But later that night, she was welping if we touched her right side so we took her to an emergency vet service (OSVS). They shaved the area and revealed a large puncture wound in the right side of my dog's rib cage. We got her taken care of. When I called the next day to inform CM that my dog had been bitten, the lady (Kathy) said the other dog was at fault, and would be banned from their facility. She said it had Lyme Disease and a saliva gland issue and maybe that's why it was so aggressive. Then my dog developed an infection and we had to go back to OSVS. My wife called CM and spoke to the DayCare person. When it was suggested that she might have been negligent, the woman went on the defensive and changed her story. Now both dogs were at fault and that if we had a problem, we should get in touch with the other dog's owner. They said they would give that person our phone number. Of course, that person never called us. We paid the $500 in vet bills. And we learned that Day Care at CM can be risky business. It's a good facility for training dogs and puppies. I like Kathy and feel she is honest. But we will never risk our dog at their Day Care facility. read more

I've taken Basic Manners twice with my two dogs, one of which is dog reactive. The trainer went above and beyond to make sure the more aggressive one had a safe space to work and not once did we feel left out of the session. The class gave us some great training building blocks and really helped relay the importance of a solid recall and how to build a communicative relationship with your dog. We've attended Puppy Play in the past and plan on continuing with classes in the future. read more

I wrote a review of Canine Mastery on 10/18 as my $170 was never refunded decided by the owner. She confirmed there were 16 dogs in the puppy obedience class at 7pm in a conversation we had. I signed up for a class with 9 dogs. That is the number of dogs I was told would be in the class. Whether there were one or more persons attending per dog is not the issue. Lots of people include another family member. In one hour how much attention from an instructor can be given to 16 dogs. The owner should have notified everyone to give them a choice. This is a terrible way to treat patrons. $170 is a lot of money to rip someone off. I am attending another training facility and my dog is actually attended to. We are making great progress in a class with 9. read more

It is a fun, and safe environments for our dogs to play and socialize. With trainers like Dan and Kathy moderating classes I know the dogs are learning to socialize appropriately. We absolutely love bringing our dog to the Saturday morning play groups here! We look forward to going every week. We have also attended a few of the different classes offered, and I must say, Sue is AMAZING! You can tell she is very passionate about not only her job, but the dogs as well. Haven't used their grooming services or their daycare services, so I can't speak of these. Have taken competition obedience and rally classes there and those are great. The instructor works hard to make sure that one can be ready for the trial ring by providing all kinds of distractions and then working with you and your dog on overcoming those distractions and still being able to work. The fellow handlers are also very good and fun to be with. Have also rented the facility to put on an event -- very reasonable and very helpful for the entire experience. Would definitely do another event there anytime. Have only had good experiences. read more

Where to begin... Ive never been the person to complain or speak up when something's wrong, and it's taken me a while to get the courage to do this but I feel it needs to be put out there and said, especially since it involves my pups. My pups had been attending the daycare for quite some time now, one pup loved it- and the other one always seemed scared. The morning staff never seemed excited for my dogs to arrive nor did they seem personable, but the afternoon staff seemed very personable and friendly- and quite frankly some of the nicest people I met. One day my dogs went to daycare and I had gotten a phone call that one of my dogs(the one who loved daycare) had been in a fight. I asked if my dog was ok, and if the other dog was ok. I was told yes, both dogs are fine- no worries, both dogs have been examined. I was told that my dog didn't have any wounds on her and that the other dog only had a scratch. This was not the case. After receiving the phone call I was a bit shocked, and I was trying to process this... my dog has always been friendly with people and dogs so what happened to set her off, and why did it happen? (Yes I know they are animals and things happen). When I arrived to pick up the dogs, I was expecting to see a "fine" dog but instead she looked off to me. I noticed a larger gash on the back of her neck, and then the shock of what happened came back to me. I loaded the pups up in the car, and proceeded to go back in. I let them know she was in fact hurt. Then I even proceeded to pay for the dogs. Why did I do this? My dog was hurt, I don't feel I should have paid for the dogs stay (they were only there for half a day). After bringing them home and was able to give her a full search I found multiple gashes and cuts on her. If she was properly examined wouldn't they have noticed these? I feel they did NOT examine her and they just left her locked up until I got there. She was limping, had a swollen side for almost a week, and her scars are not disappearing anytime soon. I called the facility up later to discuss the situation. The stories had changed 2-3 times by this time, so I'm not sure what the real story is. What blew my mind was - I was told that she acts like a punk at daycare often & they could totally see it coming. WHY WAS I NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS?!?! If I had known this I would have started to take action before things got this bad...whenever my husband or I pick up, we always ask how they are and if they had a good day. If she had an issue throughout the day I would have liked to know. My other dog who is always scared, is scared of everything- I was told she plays for a little bit and then usually lays down alone and does her own thing. I was told by one lady that she wasn't a great daycare dog- but I was told by many others that she is fine and just does her own thing- not bothering any dogs and doesn't get bothered by any dogs. This pup (the scared one) did jump the fence at this facility when we first brought her- but she is very attached to myself and her sister so I think she felt uncomfortable being by herself. I trusted this place. After all the money I've spent there I feel let down, and highly disappointed. After everything, I decided to look at the reviews this place actually has- one review seems to be from a former employee. It gave me some insight on how this facility seems to run and function, and it seems to answer my questions I had about everything... makes me wonder what had happened to my dogs there. read more

I was a member with this dog school for a number of years and lately I've taken a step back and realized this place isn't right for me. I've taken my dog to a few different training sessions and the trainers are hit or miss. The first trainer (Kathy), who happens to also be one of the owners, was terrible. It was a puppy training class and she talked to us like we knew everything about training, we'll I didn't, that's why I was at the class. The second trainer (Joyce, I believe) was awesome, really explained what to do, how to do it, and why. Unfortunately Joyce is the only bright spot to that place. The doggy play on the weekend wasn't that great either, the gentleman that was overseeing it isn't to keen on being there. Ultimately what I've come to realize about this place is that 1) it's like high school, if you're not in the right click you're an outsider 2) the owner is a miserable human being 3) training sessions are poorly scheduled 4) nothing seems organized read more

Canine Mastery is absolutely fantastic. We have been bringing our puppy there for daycare, puppy play and classes since we first got him. Everyone on the staff is knowledgeable and clearly love dogs, Our puppy has been attending puppy play on Saturday mornings and we have never had any problems. There are three different playtimes, the 9am is for experience dogs, 10am for "gentle players" and dogs under 6 months and 11am for puppies and dogs under 20 pounds. The owners and staff are fantastic at helping determine which group your dog belongs in. The play times are well supervised - there is always at least one staff member present, and the dogs generally play nicely, with a staff member intervening whenever there are issues. I would highly recommend Canine Mastery to anyone who wants a great place to place to bring their dog for training classes (obedience and agility), playtime, or daycare. read more

we have only attended training classes here (fiesty fido & above and beyond), so i don't know about the playgroups or daycare or grooming. my boyfriend and i have taken 2 classes so far with our dog and they have been fantastic. our trainer is amazing. the classes are fun and informative and the prices are decent. the only reason i didn't leave 5 stars is because there isn't a lot of communication with the business itself and patrons. when we signed up for our first class, i was told that someone would contact us to confirm the date and time. i had checked online to see exactly when the class started because no one called us. i called THEM to confirm a few days before i thought the class was scheduled to begin. at that time, i was told we don't bring our dog to the first class. i really wish someone had called me because we absolutely would have brought her with us if i hadn't called. since then, i've relied on contacting our trainer if we need to confirm anything or have any questions. i would absolutely sign up for another class (and am planning on it when our current class is over). read more

We have been taking our 2 dogs to Canine Mastery for over 6 years now. We started both dogs out in puppy kindergarten, which by the way was an amazing class. Kathy is a fantastic instructor. Her years of experience,education and true dedication is why we have continued attending classes. She establishes a relationship with every 4 legged as well as 2 legged classroom attendees. Both of our dogs have earned their "Good Citizens" certificate. On to rally obedience classes and obedience classes for the 4 of us. We have had the pleasure of working with 4 of the other trainers all of which are 5 star!! Our dogs cannot wait to get into the school each and every week. Thank you all for helping us, for teaching us and for welcoming us into the Canine Mastery Family. We also bring our dogs to Stars They Are, the onsite groomers. Not only do our dogs look absolutely beautiful but, they love it there. Sue, Pam, Angie and Todd you guys are all so talented and compassionate. Our dogs just love going there. Each groomer spends time hugging and talking to our dogs. They are treated the way one would hope they would be treated! Thank you all for your expertise and love that you continue to show our kids. Also, the retail part of Canine Mastery is great. We have been purchasing our food there for 6 years. If it isn't stocked, Kathy can get it. We do all of our shopping right there. The staff has great follow-up...especially, when our product is in, they always make sure to call us.
