I'll spare the insane details but basically my home warranty wasn't covering anything they had said they would and my original contractors ghosted me. I had a house that was 90° and animals (and humans) who were literally melting. I called Ami and she set up an appointment for Ryan to come out snd look at my SUPER old AC unit. Ryan told me the problem and I asked for some advice on what I should do, should I get the small part replaced on my decrepit unit or just bite the bullet and get a whole new one. He gave me some options and set me up with an appointment with Mike later that same day to get a quote for a new unit. Ryan also helped me with figuring out why my home warranty company wasn't being helpful when it came to covering parts and services (shout out Ryan you're awesome)! Later that same day Mike came out and gave me a quote and gave me some real insight on what unit I should get for my home, he was very patient with me while I applied for the payment plan, even though my house was 90° and the temp was rising. Barely 48 hours later, the scheduling lady, Ami, got me an appointment with Mario (and one other worker whose name I cannot remember I'm so sorry). Mario and his partner got to work around 8:30am and we're finished around 12:30pm! My house is already 20 degrees cooler and I'm SO PLEASED with everything the whole team did for me. Shout out to you all, thank you so much for your kindness and hard work!!!

Will try to keep this short. First, I seldom leave reviews. But in this case, they deserve the…read moreeffort to leave them a good one. Three people from Mid American Energy came knocking at my door the other morning. They informed me that my power meter was 15 years old and it had quit working. They told me that in order to replace the meter, the meter box would have to be replaced first and an electrician would have to do that part at my expense. So, I started my online search. I contacted Universal and three other places. One place didn't return my call at all, another said that they were too backed up, and the third one gave me a quote of $3100 dollars. Universal came out the day after I called and said they could do the job for $550 dollars. I said that would be fine and to go ahead as soon as they could. They were here the following day with Brian and his co-worker. When they saw that the entire box did not need to be replaced, they only replaced the connector parts inside the box that were bad. When everything was said and done, they said the job turned out to be easier that they had expected and dropped their charges from $550 dollars to $180 dollars. Mid American was there at the time they did their work and seemed perfectly happy with the work that Universal had done. They installed the new meter and everyone went on their way. It could not have been a better experience. If I ever need the help of an electrician again, I won't even consider calling anyone other than Universal.

Universal Electric was called to my home for what appeared to be a breaker issue. By the time their…read moretwo technicians arrived, the issue had already resolved itself. I asked them to investigate further in case the problem returned, but they declined, saying "there's nothing we can do." They never entered the home, never inspected anything, and only briefly stepped out of their van into my driveway to talk to me before leaving. At no point during the scheduling call was I told there would be a service fee. When the techs arrived, they made no mention of a charge, nor did they provide any kind of invoice or paperwork before leaving. I later received three bills by mail, each demanding $130, with no explanation of what the charge was for -- just a warning that failure to pay would result in the account being sent to collections. I did not believe the charge was warranted and disputed it in writing via certified mail with return receipt, which Universal Electric received and signed for. They never responded. No follow-up, no phone call, no documentation -- just silence. Eventually, they turned the matter over to a collection agency. It's frustrating to be billed for a visit where no service was performed, no agreement was made, and no information was shared upfront about potential charges. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Universal Electric.

I have met the plumbers and heating techs for various service calls to her house - new toilet, drain clearing, and HVAC checkups. Based on my experience with the work done at my girlfriend's house, I had them install a new water heater and remove the last of the old galvanized pipe in my house (1925 construction) and replace with copper. They even improved the condensation drain pipe on my furnace (that they did not install) at no extra charge. Their technicians have been prompt, courteous, and thorough. Are they overly expensive? No, they are not. Their rates are competitive and they do not try to add on anything that doesn't need to be done.

Ours is a gas, direct vent fireplace. So we wanted piece of mind knowing that our home is completely safe and how to use the fireplace. I checked with the BBB, Facebook posts and their awesome website. Their website is a must to check out!! They have multiple videos for the work that they do on which type of fireplace you have. Ron walks you through what they do and how it benefits your family and your home. We had James Yoshida over as the technician. We have two boys (4 & 2) that were also home and very interested in who he was and what he was doing. James laid down blankets to protect our floor from any mess. He took things apart and serviced the fireplace. Vacuumed the logs, replaced the embers, cleaned the glass and painted the inside to look new. He made sure before he painted that no one was allergic to paint fumes. Which I thought was a great question to ask as you never know. My children were all up in his business asking questions and James had the patience to answer them. (They has good questions) James even blew up a glove for the kiddos to share. It was refreshing to invite a stranger into your home and have them leave as a friend would. I highly recommend the company. I also wanted to mention Ron as each time I called, he took the time to answer my questions. At first when I told him I was gathering quotes, I hung up from him thinking that was nice to not feel pressured to have to set up an appointment right away or make a split decision. I called back after the service was performed to gather more clarification and Ron nailed my questions. Finally, we have a digital copy of the service performed along with photos of before, during and after. We will see them again next Winter.

Disappointed that they charge us more than quoted, without acknowledging why. I can't help but assume they have no fee schedule, and make it up as they go along. Also when they arrived, they neglected to tell us they did not have caps, but had to order one in. So we had to pay a second service charge to have the cap installed and ordered. Since we were dealing with animals, and they knew that, I expected them to tell me on the phone they did not have the ability to cap the same day (as I had requested this on the call). Overall way more expensive than it needed to be, since they were less than forthcoming.
