Last summer we hired Chad/Canepa Landscaping to do a full landscape of our backyard in our newly built house in Calistoga. We are so glad we did! As promised, when they started (about a week delay to start so they could finish other projects) they stuck with it until it was done showing up every day. It turned out wonderfully. Chad and his crew were absolutely perfect to work with for our new construction home in Coffey Park. Our contractor found him, and then we personally vetted him through our friends and he came highly recommended. He is well connected with many nurseries and stone companies. Chad worked with our builder regarding a skeleton design of plant/tree placement and selection. He then revised with us personally later to fine tune exactly the look and feel we're going for. He knows his plants and trees. He knows how to design them to be in places where they will be visually pleasing and where they will thrive in sun vs shade. We opted to have him put all our drip systems and sprinkler systems in initially. I have promising myself to write this review for a very diligent, hardworking and creative fellow for a VERY long time and FINALLY today, I am doing it. We started planning with Chad in the fall of 2016. We wanted to remove almost half of our backyard lawn and replace with all low water using perennials. It was a pretty big project, decomposed granite trails, a rambling stone "creek bed", a serpentine plant bed with three big obelisks for roses (our one nod to water loving plants), all new irrigation and on and on. Chad did a phenomenal job with a broad overview eye to the big hardscapes and detailed eye to the planting. He helped source every common and uncommon plants we spec'd and, in the end, planted almost 90 4-inch plants in just 2 days. There were a few 8 inch plants and a couple of larger plants--I make the point about plant size because the following pix may surprise you...thanks to Chad's perfect choice of soils and fertilizers. All really good guys -- however -- Chad underbid my project then walked off the job site. Further, his crew jack hammered through my electrical conduit for my septic system causing my septic to overflow the first weekend i moved into my house. we had numerous other issues, irrigation leaks, trees set up on wrong irrigation zones, dirt stains on my drive way from his guys not prepping the site. and to top it all off -- he charged me for 1000 plants and only planted less than 600 at my site. if you have a small job that can be done in 10 days or less -- chad is fine. If you have a large job that requires focus, time and attention then find another landscaper. read more

Really energetic at the start of the project. Nice and respectful. Employees were great as well. As the project was winding down communication was lacking as they committed to other jobs. Responses became sporadic promising lighting install and completion of garden bed irrigation (the latter still not complete). Plants died and were replaced with like plants but did not match the same species installed throughout the yard. The crew is great and they were helpful. The reason for my one star review was that he planted 6 horsetail plants directly into the soil of our low maintenance back yard. A year and a half later they are growing through our pavers, our lawn and our neighbors yard. Turns out they are worse than bamboo! This was a plant he suggested to round out our landscape. They lack the plant knowledge other landscapers have. Our yard was beautiful, the initial product looked great. We now have to pay to have all of our landscape removed and our yard excavated in hopes of removing the plant, but not guaranteed it will ever be gone. Our efforts to support a local business and trust a professional is going to cost us thousands of dollars. We rebuilt our entire home and never thought it would be the landscaping that would go so wrong. read more

After moving to Santa Rosa June of last year it was definitely time to make our property like home. After interviewing a few landscapers there was no question that we would choose Chad. Like others have said, he is the most accommodating contractor in every sense of the word. He has great ideas himself and listens all your concerns, ideas, questions and is so easy going! He will arrive and/or call when he says he will and has the best energy personally and garden-wise!
