Awful, awful, awful. Price was ridiculous. $12 for a pint of seafood gumbo with rice. Rice was soggy and old and the kind that has little hard crunches in it because it's gotten dried and they added water. 2/3 of the half pint was rice and the rest was watery gumbo. Okra was mushy as was the shrimp. I really should've known because there weren't very many people in the rest of the places had lines all over. Wait time is absurd. When you say 10-12 minutes and your food comes out 25 minutes later, that is just unacceptable. What is even worse is that the food was terrible. You pay 10-12$ for gumbo and the flavor is just not there plus the cup you get is not what it is advertised in the photos up front. It's a cup the size of your hand. The jambalaya rice was hard and to add meat was an additional 3$. For the size of everything, to eat here is not worth the price or the wait. Additionally, the catfish basket was $18 with three small catfish and less than a child's hand full of sweet potato fries. I spent over $50 for a terrible meal. I have never been so disappointed. I was excited to try this place since everyone's orders were looking pretty yummy from here. I went with Mac and cheese with sausage added. I felt very ripped off. The addition of meat costs $3 extra and I received only a few pieces of it. The Mac and cheese was just alright as well. Also, when I made my order, the cashier basically tricked me into buying sweet tea which I only noticed after by giving me a choice of sweet tea, soda or water. The food choices that they have here are pretty interesting. My friend and I decided to split a gator po boy ($13) and a chicken basket ($11). If you've never had gator, it tastes like fish but has the texture of chicken. So in the po boy you basically get this sandwich with pickles, greens, and tomatoes with pieces of fried gator inside. I think it wouldn't been better to have strips of gator rather than little nuggets, because the po boy fell apart completely when we were trying to take a bite out of it. I ended up having to pick the sandwich apart and try and fit a bite of bread, tomato, greens, and gator nugget onto my fork so I could have them all in one bite. As far as taste, it's pretty good. It's something that I would eat again. The basket of chicken basically has 4 chicken strips, half a piece of bread, and fries. They also give you a choice of sauce. I chose the house sauce, but they only squirted the house sauce halfway into the little sauce container. It was definitely not enough to ration out to both the chicken strips and the fries. It's a shame, too, because they chicken and fries were actually pretty dry for me. I'd need a lot of sauce to balance out their dryness. But I couldn't finish it because I ran out of sauce, and they had already closed, and the chicken would just be harder to for me to swallow. I would recommend getting the po boys over the baskets. But maybe ask for extra sauce on the side. I kind of wish they prepared it a little bit better, but the gator po boy is something that you should definitely try out if you've never had it before. read more

I regret not coming to Yelp and reading some of the reviews. I was very disappointed in the food here. I ordered the gumbo and jambalaya. The gumbo was most definitely not gumbo and tasted awful. It had a pungent stench that made me question the freshness of the gumbo. The jambalaya was also of poor taste. Both item had no flavors. I spent over 30 and it ended up in the trash. I don't think I'll be back. If you want good Louisiana style Cajun food, I suggest going elsewhere. read more

I am so happy that a lot of the eatery at the Liberty Public Market are now offering breakfast, specifically on Saturdays and Sunday mornings. I stop by the Cane Patch and could not resist ordering a scramble on a sandwich with Andouille smoked sausage with cheese and a sprinkling of scallions. These people not only know how to make a terrific scramble, but they know how to put together a scrumptious sandwich as well. I loved the way the buttered and griddled up the insides of the roll and gave it a great charring and crust. It really added to the flavor of the sandwich and helped keep it together. The scrambled eggs were very well made with a fluffy consistency and were very well seasoned. They put just the right amount of cheddar cheese and garnished them with some tasty peppery scallions. The Andouille sausage was no doubt the star of the breakfast sandwich. It was a delicious smoked and mildly spicy sausage. However, the way they prepared it made it exceptional. They made crisscuts on top and then grilled them on the hot griddle. They applied a bit of pressure on the sausage during cooking to give the sausage a nice crust. As a result, the sausage was bursting with flavor. Really.. The ladies and gentlemen working here were great. They all had nice personalities and were busily helping customers and keeping things flowing. Breakfast at Liberty Public Market just got even better. read more

My review is based on the swamp fries that I had, and the excellent customer service. I can't even begin to tell you how good those swamp fries were. I don't even know all the ingredients in there, but I can tell you the fries included fries(duh), I added half shrimp, half chicken ($3), cheese, red beans(Cajun), ummm... pico de gallo, sour cream, and i believe chopped collard greens and chives, AND some kind of creamy Cajun sauce and sriracha sauce. I don't know, but it was a whole lotta everything. The portion is huge and heavy! The chicken and shrimp were nicely battered and flavorful. The seasoning they use has a nice kick to it and complimented the chicken and shrimp. We met the owner(part), and the gentleman responsible for cooking the fries. Both of them were friendly and welcoming. She offered us so many samples and was so patient. To me that's how you keep people coming back. Great food and even better customer service! I will return! Cane Patch is located on a corner spot in the middle of Liberty Public Market across from Crafted and Westbean. They serve authentic southern comfort food. The staff was very nice. The wait for our food took, more or less, 10 minutes. There were several items we wanted to try, but ended up getting the Jambalaya and added shrimp for an additional $3. The Jambalaya came with a half slice of toasted bread. We also ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries. We don't know why we were surprised, but the Jambalaya was super flavorful. You can taste all of the spices they used... and it even had a little spicy kick to it, but not too much. The Jambalaya was made up of rice, which wasn't mushy, mixed with chopped up peppers, green onions, corn, chicken, sausage, and our added shrimp... not sure what else or if what we listed is even right, but there's lots of everything! The Sweet Potato Fries were cooked well, tasted great, and came with ketchup. They have a variety of other options such as baskets with crispy or grilled items, po boys, salads, gumbo, sides, drinks, and even dessert! We'll be back to try more to try more. read more

We were wandering around Liberty Station looking for something to eat and their display of food on the counter caught my eye. I had never heard of this place but I can tell I'm going to be back a thousand more times! The food was made fresh when we placed our order, and the girl who helped us at the counter was awesome and really nice to chat with. You can't go wrong with this place! Ok, I wanted to like this place. Gave then a second chance recently and completely changed my view of them and the quality of food. I previously thought the fish had a great flavor but now I'm truly rethinking what was going on with me. Maybe the fact that I was trying a new place in Liberty Station and that I was the first to review this place influenced my review. When you're so close to the ocean and have fresh fish in the area (with the countless fish companies locally) it is a crime to serve pre-packaged fish and that it what you're getting here. While my girl was ordering I noticed an employee come in with a box of pre-packaged "premium" tilapia.... say what?! With locations like fishbone right down the way you're going to serve frozen fish? Either they changed the products they're buying or the seasoning was good that I didn't catch it the first time but so not going back. Had the fried fish and beignets and was not impressed. The service was quick even with the long lines but the service felt very McDonalds. Just no emotion or love and felt like a soulless chain. The beignets were okay I guess but powdered sugar on a lot of things makes them better. Over heard an associate talking with a passers-by as they were discussing the authenticity of the cooking. The passers-by has been in the south and even mentioned the food from Shreveport, LA while they employee (who was prepping the food) claimed it was just as such. I truly doubt that the food is as such or better if they are buying frozen product. This is a day and age of fresh quality ingredients and locations using anything of the sort are destined for closing down or turning into mindless fast food like McDonalds. If your goal is to be that Cane Patch then good for you but not were I plan on spending my hard earned cash with the great places right next door offering better quality product. highly recommend asking where the product is sourced and see what answers you get. I was craving their fries catfish but they were out of it so got some fried cod strips along with sweet potato fries. It comes with a nice Texas toast and you get to pick your sauce for the fish and the fries. This is located inside the Liberty Public Market. You can sit at their counter or outside anywhere in the public area. The fish tasted amazing! Great crunch and nice tender inside. It went great with the sweet potato fries and their toast. We always stop by here when we are at the Liberty Public Market. The prices are a little high and the service is a bit slow but I honestly couldn't care less. The food has always been pretty good. They made our friend's chicken tenders and dropped them during cooking so they remade them and got the beignets and drinks in the house. The four star is just for how slow the service can be. You have to expect it though since they aren't just taking food prebattered foods out of the freezer and frying it. Still our go to place here. read more

My best friend, my mom and I decided to visit Liberty Public Market yesterday and stopped here at Cane Patch Kitchen three times. My mom and I decided to get breakfast from here, as we tend to arrive at Liberty Public Market rather early. We decided to get the Shrimp and Grits Bowl to share. The Grits must be made with milk, because they were nice and creamy. The eggs were scrambled perfectly and maintained a nice fluffiness throughout eating the dish. The shrimp were fried perfectly and had a nice crisp. Always get the spicy sauce/hot sauce on top, because it is delicious. Overall, a perfect start to a great day. Later when my best friend arrived, we decided to share the Swamp Fries. They came highly recommended by the handsome young fellow taking our order. (By the way, he was the BEST SALESMAN EVER! We enjoyed watching his selling tactics.) Anywho, the Swamp Fries came with Chicken, Shrimp, Sausage, Cheese Sauce, Spicy Hot Sauce, Red Beans, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Sour Cream. AMAZING!!!!! It was so good! The Chicken and Shrimp were fried perfectly. The dish had a great spice and the Red Beans was a nice surprise!! I highly recommend. The Fries came out piping hot as well! Lastly, my best friend ordered the Gumbo to go. When she later ate it, she thought the flavors were just ok. The dish came with a lot more rice than Gumbo, which created somewhat of a chalky texture. She did have to add a little salt and she felt the crab leg was a little burnt tasting. We suggest asking for the Gumbo with no rice to get more broth, because the sample we received earlier in the day with just the broth was amazing. The Gumbo has potential, but the rice alters the flavor. All in all, we had a pretty good experience here. Can't wait to be back to try something else. read more

I wish I could give them more stars. Service was phenomenal. The young man at the front lured myself and others in with his phenomenal spiel and the offer of samples. I personally had just entered the market and was still looking around but found it hard to say no to him! I ordered the macaroni and cheese and added grilled shrimp.The macaroni and cheese itself was okay at best. The grilled shrimp that I paid extra for was a measly 3 pieces served cold on top of the mac and cheese. Who can say no to beignets? Especially when told it's served with strawberry puree. The order came with 4 pieces but was missing the strawberry. I was later told that they were out of the strawberry. Disappointing. Even more disappointing was that they were flavorless and tough. Located in the super-busy Liberty Public Market, this little NOLA cuisine booth is easy to miss, and doesn't have all the big signs, cute decorations, and trendy logos that most of its competing restaurants do. However, I was hoping it would be a hole-in-the-wall type situation, where the not-so-flashy exterior would make for amazing (and hopefully cheap) food. This was not the case. Not to say the food wasn't good, it just wasn't worth the price. For $11, plus $3 for each additional meat, these loaded steak fries come with red beans, lettuce, sour cream, onions, and sauces, so it was a tad pricey. It also took about 20 minutes just to get my fries, which was ridiculous, especially considering that despite Liberty Public Market itself being busy, the restaurant itself only had one or two other customers, with no line. The fries were good (a bit spicy, which I personally liked, but just a heads up), they were crispy and well cooked, and all the toppings on top (I got andouille sausage for an additional $3) made for a very filling dish. I will say, the toppings were kind of disproportionate to the fries, as once I was done with the fries and sausage, I still had a pile of lettuce, sauce and red beans left over. I was craving wings and I seen that on the menu for Cane Patch Kitchen. The menu said the wings were $13. I asked the guy at the register how many wings it came with and he said 5. Wow, that's pretty pricey for 5 wings. He said they were big wings though. I agreed and when I placed the order, the machine said the wings were $15. I told him the menu says $13. He looked at the menu, then looked at the register and says "Wow, thats stupid. Sorry about that." Obviously, it's not his fault, but I wonder how many people were overcharged for the wings? He corrected the price for me, and I ended up tipping him the extra $2. The wings took about 15 minutes to cook. While waiting for my wings, I walked over to my girlfriend at Mama's Thai and she said they sell wings for $7. That's half the price! They had pictures of their wings too and they looked legit. I was thinking, oh well, hopefully my wings will be worth it. When I got my wings, they were pretty big. I wasn't sure if the wings themselves were big, or if they were just extremely breaded. After taking the first bite, I knew they were just covered in bread. Very disappointed. I definitely would not come back to this place, or recommend it to anyone. Southern food hits home so I definitely had to try their jambalaya! First off, the portion was quite large and worth the money. There were large pieces of sausage and chicken tossed with corn, squash, and onions. The flavor was very light and earthy, even though jambalaya tends to be on the heavier side of comfort food. I wish they incorporated more protein in there instead of rice and corn, such as seafood options so there would be more texture and flavor among each bite. It comes with a side of buttered bread, but I think they burnt it a little. Regardless, the crunchy texture balanced out the tangy flavor from the dish.
