Red Velvet Cake
Meghan W.

Cane Patch Kitchen is an excellent Creole soul food stall in Liberty Public Market. It's one of the few original restaurants at the Public Market, and if the constant lines are anything to go by, you know the food is excellent! Located in the heart of the Market, it can be loud and crowded, but the staff is super helpful and takes the time to answer any questions. There is plenty of seating inside and outside the Market, so you can easily find a place to sit down and enjoy your food. I didn't have one of the entrees, but I did enjoy the red velvet cake. Oh. My. Goodness! It was delicious, and the portion size was HUGE! I definitely recommend trying out Cane Patch Kitchen while at Liberty Public Market! You won't be disappointed!

Let's start off with $70.00 for these 2 plates ! Yes $70.00 ! The Mac & cheese is okay but the cheese on Top was CRUNCHY , on BOTH plates ? the yams tasted like water & cinnamon & the catfish was SATURATED in grease it did not taste like catfish one bit, unsure what fish that was / was trying to be but it was GROSS ! The red beans and rice were flavorless . I didn't door dash it I picked it myself it was a piping hot plate ! NEVER , AGAIN! 2 stars because the customer service was good.

Shrimp Po Boy & Swamp Fries

Cane Patch is one of the many food options available inside Liberty Public Market. While walking around looking at dinner options, I settled on a shrimp po boy and swamp fries from cane patch. Getting both was a ton of food but both sounded so good and they were delicious! The swamp fries had so much flavor and were spicy with hot sauce drizzled on top. The po boy had lots of shrimp and great flavors as well! You could easily share both of these dishes with someone else for a good sized meal. I would order both again! It took about 15 minutes for my food to be ready so place your order then look around for a spot to eat. The public market can get really busy and can be very noisy but there are lots of seating options inside or outside.

Got their Oyster Po Boy. Honestly, for almost $20 I expected more than half a sandwich. The oysters were nicely fried but thats about it. Bun was stale and the veggies could've used some salt/seasoning. It did take over 20min to get my order when we were told 5-10min so that was off putting.

I ordered a grilled shrimp po' boy with steak fries. Add an Arnold Palmer and a $3.00 tip and the bill comes to $32.16. Not cheap at all for a sandwich, fries, and a drink. First: a grilled shrimp po' boy with 6 or 7 small shrimp for $19.00 is a LOT. A $5.00 Arnold Palmer, is a LOT. I waited patiently over 20 minutes to get my food. Finally food started coming out and was set on the counter for 3 of us to watch sit there, as nobody would hand it to us... Finally the girl taking and prepping orders came to the front and handed out 4 bags that were just waiting.. I make my way to another area to find a seat wit the rest of my party waiting for me while their food got cold. I open my container and I have the wrong food. The container had french toast and bacon inside... I take the food back to the counter and now I'm not happy, but explain to the girl that this isn't my order. She looks inside the bag, then starts typing for a bit in the computer and I tell her if they have to make another, and it will take another 20 minutes, I just want my money back. I'm now less happy. IN the meantime, another customer comes up and practically throws her bag on the counter and says "we don't even want it anymore". The girl behind the counter (Lynee) hands me a receipt, grabs her phone and LEAVES. Just leaves. The cook looks amazed, comes up front and asks what happened. I told her she just left. The receipt she handed me was a refund for someone else. Not even my order, nor my credit card, The cook was great about it, apologized, and had another shrimp po boy on deck, and handed it to me in 3 minutes. The food was OK, the po boy could have been much more loaded for $19.00, but I'd rather try something else next time, and because of the service, I'll happily skip anyplace she works, forever.

Breakfast po boy. Eggs, cheese, choice of bacon or/ and sausage, served on a soft chewy roll, topped with remoulade sauce. Sauce was nice suprise and paired well. I would like the bread toasted.

Cane Patch Kitchen is one of the few OG vendors still operating from when Liberty Public Market debuted in early 2016. Cajun/creole cuisine is the name of their game. Po'boy sandwiches and fried baskets made up the left menu screen. The right screen listed five entrees, seven sides, two desserts, and the kids' menu. I selected the first two entrees listed which were the Jambalaya and Seafood Gumbo. The addition of meat to the jambalaya costs three more dollars, but you need protein to make this item complete. Therefore, I asked for a mix of chicken and andouille sausage. About 15 minutes later, my order had been bagged and was ready for pickup. The gumbo had a mildly spicy broth with shrimp, mussels, and a crab claw included. The price was a bit higher than I had expected for the serving size. The jambalaya was a potpourri of colors from the green onions, tomatoes, bell pepper, and corn kernels mixed in with the dirty rice. For the quality and value of the food I sampled, my rating was 3.5 stars for Cane Patch Kitchen.

I loveeeeee Cane Patch! It's the only food I get when I come to Liberty Station and I come a lot and there's always SOOO many options. But this is my go to. Of all time. Sandwich is hefty and generous for the price and the quality is amazing! I love the ambiance of the inside as well. Lots of tables and seating.

3 pieces of fried catfish, baked macaroni and cheese, crispy sweet potato fries, and buttered toast.

Cane Patch Kitchen is located in Liberty Station food hall serving up some southern Louisiana classics such as po-boys, fried seafood, and the traditional southern sides. We decided to try this place to relive our past with the tasty southern cooking and it definitely lived up to the hype. As former Mississippians we were craving some fried catfish and turned to Yelp to get the answer. Cane Patch Kitchen offers a variety of different fried seafood such as oysters, shrimp, catfish, and even alligator. The side dishes to name a few are baked macaroni and cheese, collards greens, and sweet potato frys and many more on the list. We went ahead and ordered the fried catfish combo which comes with one side and you can add another side for a small fee so we also went ahead and got the sweet potatoes frys and baked macaroni and cheese. The food was beautifully presented and the portion size was amazing! We ended up getting 3 nice sizes of fish and a generous scoop of macaroni and cheese with a heaping handful of crispy sweet potatoes frys! They even threw in butter grilled toast and ranch to compliment the frys and tartar sauce for the fish. The fish was fried golden brown and seasoned well. The batter wasn't crispy crispy but a nice thin layer of crisp. The fish was very succulent and juicy packing with flavor. The frys were nice sweet and crispy and paired well with the ranch. The macaroni and cheese had a nice flair to it garnished with thinly fined chopped green onions. The food was good and service was great and made me reminisce of my good Ole Mississippi day and trips to New Orleans for fried seafood platters. Definitely have this on my list again to come back and try the swamp frys or po-boys or maybe even the fried alligator.

Chicken and waffles

While strolling through Liberty Public Market, we stumbled beyond Cane Patch Kitchen. Hubby ended up ordering the chicken and waffles from them. He said that chicken was well seasoned. Waffle was decent but not a knock out of the park. It was flavored with either nutmeg or cinnamon. Large portion size.

I was starving and I had to go grocery shopping. I don't like grocery shopping if I'm hungry cause I buy to much lol I cruised over to livery station cause they have good variety of pop-ups. I walked around to see which pop-up made my stomach growl. It stopped at New Orleans pop-up, it's been a minute since I had Cajun food. They had gator & it sold me. If you ever had gator it's really good & taste like chicken ( like anything else lol ) The service on point, helpful, & friendly. The food came out fast. I'm about dive in to satisfy my stomach Come check it out !!!

If you are a big fan of Cajun cuisine like me, you always try new spots. I decided to try it and was not very impressed. The price for Gumbo in the menu was $15 so I decided to go for it. They said that for 2x the money you would get 2x Gumbo, so I decided to go for it as well. They said that the wait would be 5-10min which ended to be 18min. Kind of a long wait for hungry person. Ok, I would wait that long for good Gumbo, but only for good one. This gumbo was underwhelming, 7 shrimps swimming in the company of 5 pieces of chicken and 6 pieces of sausage. See picture for details. Not worth $30 for sure. I will not be stopping by there again.

This was actually our second time getting food from Cane Patch Kitchen, but I missed writing a review after our first visit. The menu is fairly straightforward - po' boy sandwiches, entrees of protein and offerings of gumbo or jambalaya. My husband kept changing his mind on what he wanted to get, but I knew I was going to order the shrimp po' boy. The hubs ended up with the catfish po' boy. We also ordered a side of regular fries to share. We waited quite a while to get our food. It gave us time to wander the market in search of beverages, but it was still over 25 minutes before the nice young man at the counter handed us our bag (apologizing profusely for the wait). It seemed they only had one person working the kitchen that day, and that person was very far behind. The number of customers waiting for their food was crazy. At any rate, the market was packed that day, so it was impossible to find a table to sit at (and I really wanted to snap at the people that were posted up at tables with no food or drink in sight. #rude) We made our way back to our car, which was parked under a tree and offered a suggestion of shade, to eat our meal. My sandwich was full of flavor, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The bread was both crispy and chewy, in all the right ways. The sandwich itself wasn't over-dressed with sauce or vegetables, and everything melded together really well. My husband said that his catfish po' boy was the best he's had, and he's including the ones we've eaten in New Orleans. It was the same for him - the catfish nuggets were perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the flavors worked well. The fries were surprisingly sad, compared to the artistry that went into the sandwiches. A small helping of crinkle cut fries, lightly seasoned and a bit undercooked. Still, we put a hurting on the fries, though I admit I didn't eat much given the size of the sandwich itself.

What they do well is traditional Brazilian comfort food. Prices aren't too crazy. It's under new ownership who has continued with the menu but with some tweaks. The most noticeable one is the feijão, which other reviewers have mentioned, and the picanha now has a nice fat cap. It can get busy depending on events in the area but we were able to sit and eat within a reasonable amount of time. The owner had let us know that the kitchen had a lot of orders and there would be a slight delay but it didn't take any longer than he had quoted us. If you're in the mood for laid-back traditional Brazilian fare, this is the place.

I did not always have food allergies. Before I became sick, I was able to eat everything, including foods I can no longer safely have. Because my allergies are now serious, I go out of my way to communicate clearly with restaurants before ordering. I understand that accommodating allergies can take additional effort, which is exactly why I called Brazil by the Bay before placing my order rather than simply assuming something was safe. I explained and listed all of my allergies over the phone, including my allergies. I also listed my allergies in writing on my Grubhub order so that the restaurant had them both verbally and in writing for the entire order. I specifically asked about the farofa and the beans. I did not simply ask whether they thought the dishes were allergy-friendly. I asked the person to read me the ingredients. I was explicitly told that the farofa contained only cassava flour and that the beans contained only salt. Based on the information the restaurant gave me, I ate the food. After taking one bite, my throat started to get really tight and it was difficult to breath. I immediately called the restaurant because at that point I needed accurate ingredient information to determine how serious the situation was and whether I needed to seek emergency medical care. What happened next was extremely disturbing. The person continued telling me that the farofa only contained cassava flour. I explained that my throat was closing and that I needed them to actually verify what was in the food because I needed to know whether I needed to go to the ER. Only after putting me on hold and actually checking did he come back and tell me that the food contained food I am allergic to and that I had specifically disclosed before ordering and in the notes on my order. This means that I was not merely given incomplete information. I specifically asked for the ingredients, disclosed my allergies, and relied on the restaurant's answer. The ingredient information I was initially given was wrong. During this conversation, I also repeatedly experienced being misgendered while trying to deal with a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. What was almost as troubling as the original mistake was the complete lack of concern afterward. The person I spoke with did not ask whether I was medically okay. He did not apologize. He did not offer a refund, a remake, an explanation, or a manager callback. Instead, I experienced justification and repeated insistence about the ingredients until I pushed for him to actually check. When a customer tells you that their throat is closing after eating food your restaurant specifically told them was safe, the response should not be defensiveness. The immediate priorities should be determining exactly what ingredients were in the food, making sure the customer has accurate information for their safety, expressing concern, and figuring out how such a serious failure happened. I called again, the next day and asked to speak with a manager. I was told the manager was not there. I explained what had happened, gave my name and phone number, and was told that the owner would call me back. No timeframe was given. At the time I am writing this, I am still waiting for that conversation. For anyone with food allergies, I would be extremely cautious ordering here based on my experience. Restaurants cannot guarantee that every environment is completely free of allergens, and I understand that. But this was not a situation where I failed to disclose an allergy or made assumptions about a dish. I did everything I reasonably could to protect myself. I called ahead. I explained all of my allergies. I asked for the ingredients to be read to me. I listed the allergies again in writing on Grubhub. I relied on the information I was given. The restaurant gave me inaccurate ingredient information anyway. Food-allergy safety depends on trust. If an employee does not know exactly what is in something, there is nothing wrong with saying, "I don't know; let me check." In fact, that is the responsible answer. What is dangerous is confidently telling someone with serious allergies that a dish contains only certain ingredients without actually verifying it. I sincerely hope Brazil by the Bay treats this as an opportunity to completely review its allergy procedures. Staff should have access to accurate ingredient information, allergy questions should be verified rather than guessed at, written allergy notes on delivery orders should be taken seriously, and employees need clear procedures for what to do if someone reports an allergic reaction. This restaurant has been meaningful to my family since 2006, and I wish I were writing a very different review. The food itself has always been something we loved. But no meal is worth

Overall (4.5/5)…read more Crack Shack definitely lived up to the recommendations from my family. The chicken was juicy, the fries were some of the best I've had, and the sides were surprisingly good too. A few minor downsides, but overall a really solid spot. First Impressions (4.5/5) Casual fried chicken spot that focuses on sandwiches, tenders, and comfort food. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving some good chicken. What We Got (5/5) * Firebird Sandwich Combo: Filling, juicy chicken with a good balance of toppings. Surprisingly, it wasn't very spicy, so I wish they let you choose your spice level. * Little Pecker Combo: Chicken tenders that were juicy and not overly breaded. Our order was missing one tender, but they kindly gave us another one. * Fries: Seriously some of the best fries I've ever had. Super crunchy, flavorful, and even better with the sauces. * Biscuits: Moist and covered in delicious garlic butter. Honestly reminds me of Red Lobster biscuits. * BBQ Sauce: Sweet and tangy, and pairs really well with the chicken. Taste and Quality (5/5) The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and not overly breaded. The fries were a huge standout with their crunch and flavor, and the garlic butter biscuits were delicious. The only minor issue was that the sandwich bread got a little crumbly, but the rest of the sandwich held together well. Service (4.5/5) They were kind and accommodating when our tender order was missing a piece, and they quickly made up for it. Space and Atmosphere (3.5/5) The main downside is that the seating is outdoors, which isn't ideal when it's raining. Parking was also limited. They have sauce stations, but since we ordered online for curbside pickup, we didn't get any sauces with our order. Was It Worth It (4.5/5) Definitely worth it for the quality of the chicken, amazing fries, and delicious sides. Just make sure to grab your sauces if you're ordering online. Final Thoughts Definitely one of the better fried chicken spots I've tried. The fries alone are worth mentioning, and the juicy chicken and garlic butter biscuits make it even better. I'd happily come back, preferably when the weather is nicer so I can enjoy the outdoor seating.

My coworker and I recently decided to try various restaurants at lunchtime, so one Thursday, we walked into Morena Provisions. The interior is really cute, with lots of gift items and delicious-looking baked goods under the glass display. The woman who greeted us was also friendly. The back wall displayed several pre-prepared takeout items in plastic containers, along with various beverages, including a few bottles of wine. I took some time to study the menu. At the time, I was on a diet that was low carb, which meant that I was not ordering any of the sandwiches or bakery items. I thought the chicken atichoke salad sounded good. However, when I ordered it, I was disappointed to learn that it was one of the pre-prepared items, as I had hoped for a big green salad with chicken. However, they kindly added spring mix to the chicken salad to give me sort of what I had hoped for. I will say, that, though they were very nice to do this, it seemed that the serving and left me hungry, and it was pretty pricey for a pre-made chicken salad. My friend ordered one of the panini on the menu. I think she enjoyed it, but I would also say that it was very small. When I asked if she would be interested in returning, she said that she would prefer to go elsewhere, as Morena Provisions just doesn't have the best value for the price. All in all, it is a nice place, but I don't think that the serving sizes or the products themselves merited the prices that we paid. Perhaps there are other items on the menu that would be a better value. Also, it seems from the other reviews that the bakery items are a favorite. I would possibly try it again, but order a different item. For me, it was a 3-star experience.

Hoping this visit was a one-off. An upside--I see they have a happy hour now.
