Love her food so delicious and made fresh daily. She does events, funerals, weddings and much more. The Mac& Cheese is my all time favorite.

Stopped by Po Boy Shop and ordered the fried shrimp plate with mac & cheese and red beans & rice…read more Overall, it was a really good meal. The fried shrimp had great flavor and seasoning on the breading. I personally would've liked them fried just a little harder for a bit more crisp, but they were still very tasty and fresh. The mac & cheese was creamy, rich, and definitely one of the highlights of the plate. The red beans & rice had a good hearty flavor, though it was a little on the salty side for my taste. For dessert, I had the peach cobbler. The flavor was really good and comforting, but I would've liked a little more juice in it. It would also be great if they offered an option to heat the cobbler, which would take it to another level. Interior is cute , screams New Orleans. They had one person working counter she was busy in the phone trouble shooting some software so I just ordered on the tablet. Overall, generous portions and good Southern comfort food. I'd definitely come back and try more items on the menu.

Breading was lightly seasoned (would have liked a little more flavor) on the catfish and shrimp. The shrimp were super plump and sweet. Catfish was a bit funky but both were best with the hot sauce. Gumbo had good flavor and a dark roux, just too much salt and the chicken was a bit chewy. Nice pieces of okra and really good sausage. Will come back for a shrimp poboy.

Came here for a birthday celebration, and it was such an amazing experience from start to finish…read more I absolutely love the setup here. The owner and all the regulars were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. It really feels like a true community spot. They have a large outdoor area with picnic tables, which was perfect for hanging out and enjoying the food. We ordered the three meat platter with two sides for around $50, and it was more than enough for two people to split with leftovers to bring home. We got the brisket, rib tips, and tri-tip, along with the mac & cheese and barbecue beans. Everything was absolutely delicious. Honestly, this is hands down some of the best barbecue in San Diego. They even provided plates and forks for the birthday cake. They also had a TV set up for the games, which added to the fun atmosphere. Really loved the experience, the food, and the welcoming environment here. Can't wait to come back. Side note, they sell out of ribs pretty quickly. They were out around 4 PM so make sure you arrive early. I heard they were delicious!

So I came here on a Sunday. Let me start by saying I loved the vibe and the customer service was superb. The cashier was really nice and people were constantly checking on us while we sat and ate. I'm from LA and this place was giving backyard BBQ with unc and auntie and them. lol. There is a cigar lounge type vibe to the very back serving up cocktails and playing sports on the big screen if that's your vibe. They also had some RnB playing as well. Now for the food. They are not stingy with the portions at all. I ordered rib tips, a hot link, and brisket with cornbread, potato salad and Mac n cheese. The rib tips were not as tender as I would've like them to be, however the flavor was good and their bbq sauce was phenomenal. The brisket was SUPER tender but could use more flavor. The Mac n cheese was too salty for me and my friend that came with me. However, the person who recommended the spot said the Mac n cheese was fire so maybe it was an off day which happens. The potato salad though (which they only have Fri-Sun) was out of this world and so was the cornbread. Oh AND they have kool-aid ! I did not get any but I'm sure it was fire. Side note: when I warmed it up the next day the meat did have even more flavor !

Service is friendly, instantly gives me that same vibe at my favorite fish and chicken spot back home in Chicago. Now the food? Smacks harder than Bruce Lee. Everything was fried to perfection. The catfish was flavorful without that muddy taste, the cod was light and flaky, and the shrimp? Big and great flavor. The whole wings hit the spot. I like to drench mine in hot sauce and ranch. Note: normally dinners come with three wings, but since they were on the smaller side they gave me four. Small gesture, big appreciation. Gizzards were clean, crispy, and fried just right and if you're about that spice life, definitely get them Chicago style (drenched in mild sauce). Even the fries deserve a shoutout. Most spots treat fries as an afterthought, but these had a crispy coating with a fluffy inside and some of the best I've had at a fish & chicken joint. I'll be back for sure. Welp! Onto the next Lipitor worthy food adventure!

Highly recommend if your press for time, and if you're in the mood for something fried. Give…read moreCaptain Sam's a call...checkout their menu options and menu specials.

The staff were incredibly nice, guiding us through the menu and helping us decide on the two sides with two options meals. When handing us our food, they mentioned and apologized that the mac and cheese was not up to par and encouraged us to come back and try it again. He was right--the mac and cheese was overcooked, but the flavor was still there. I appreciate the honesty. The pork chop, catfish, and chicken wings were seasoned to perfection. The breading was light but crunchy so delicious I wanted to eat all the small crumbs off my plate. The candied yams were flavorful, and the best part for me was the banana pudding. It was the best banana pudding I have ever had. Overall, I had a great experience, and I'll definitely be back to give the mac and cheese another shot and eat more delicious southern food in SD.

The staff is so friendly and was very helpful with the menu. There were sides that weren't on the menu, like the fried okra and french fries. We ended up ordering them as sides for the chicken wings. We also ordered the catfish with mac n cheese and collard greens. For dessert, we got the peach cobbler. Other desserts they have are banana cream pie, strawberry-banana cream pie, and chocolate cake. They all sounded good, but the peach cobbler was highly recommended. The cornbread muffin made it on the order too. All the food was delicious and perfectly seasoned! The catfish and chicken were juicy. The catfish tasted fresh and not too fishy. The mac n cheese and collard greens were the best out of the sides we got. Cornbread and peach cobbler were also very good. The cobbler wasn't too sweet, so I enjoyed it. I'm really glad I found this place on Yelp. I highly recommend giving them a try!

As someone who grew up around Haitians, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, the whole Caribbean…read morediaspora in the Northeast, I know good Caribbean food. I know good Jamaican food. So when I was deciding between my options today, I went with Island Spice because Jamaicans make good rice and peas, y'all got good jerk chicken, and I wanted my money to go toward a Black establishment. I actively chose to support this restaurant. I will not be coming back. Rice is the star of the show in Caribbean cuisine. We literally go to war on social media over who got the best rice. That is how seriously we take it. And what I received today was mushy. The water ratio was completely off. Whoever made this rice knew it, and they served it anyway. There is already a serious lack of Caribbean culture in San Diego. We barely have options out here. So when one of the few spots we have decides to send out food that does not meet the standard, that hits different. You do not get to be mediocre when you are one of the only ones representing. If the decision was made to serve that rice because redoing it wasn't worth the time, you lost a customer permanently. Standards matter. You had mine and you lost them. Not coming back.
