Service was usually pleasant, though the hostess didn't really seem interested in being there. My first cocktail-a rum coconut beverage-was great. One of the best cocktails I've had in Detroit. The Old Fashioned was disappointing; somewhat bitter, one note, missing the cherry that I'd have thought we be a given here. My wife loved the wine. The bartender made very little conversation with us which also meant that we sat with empty drinks for quite awhile. Once again, it wasn't bad service but it also wasn't amazing service. The experience was a good one, but not sure I wouldn't recommend this place for a large group. Worth it for the experience, not necessarily the drinks or service. We were lucky enough to visit some incredible cocktail places during our brief stay in Detroit, but everyone told us you have to try Candy Bar. Armed with a reservation, we arrived at 9pm and were ushered into the back of a hotel, making for a not-so-secret speakeasy sort of vibe. Oddly, for a gorgeous Saturday night, there were only six other people in the tiny, pink on pink bar. Which is actually what brings my rating, and our experience, down so low. Our first drinks didn't appear until nearly 25 minutes into our seating, already putting us at the halfway mark. When we asked about snacks, they didn't have much but we needed a little something - sadly, they never came, and we weren't checked in on until we asked for the check. With three people staffing this tiny bar filled with four couples, you would really expect better service. And, for the prices, it really wouldn't have been too much to ask. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and even have considered getting a room at the Siren because I love the unique decor. I was very excited when he made reservations here! This unique little spot is located in the Siren Hotel. If you have never been, I highly recommend checking it out. You go through the lobby and to the back, there is a pink velvet curtain. Inside is beautiful. It's all pink and fluffy and fun! It smells of incense. We were seated in a cozy spot. This place is quite small. You are going to want to make reservations. It was a quiet, chilly, Thursday evening so Detroit was on the quiet side but I can imagine it gets quite busy during peak times. Reservations also require a $10/person deposit so that you don't take someone's spot if you aren't going to show. The kitchen is closed. I'm not sure if you could get food here previously or not but they were clear that due to covid the kitchen was closed. The drinks were amazing as was the presentation! This is a place you could go to with the girls for a cocktail, or keep it on the romantic side with a date. It is on the pricy side but worth it in my opinion! I'm sure we will be back! Pro tip: you MUST make a reservation as you can't walk in and get a table and plan in advance. This a verrrrry hip place for drinks and we had to make a reservation a month in advance. COVID times means no bar seating. There are only about 5-6 tables inside and Candy Bar is nestled inside of the Siren Hotel. Old hollywood vibes describe this little gem perfectly. Pink walls and pink velvet seating fill this cozy bar. Between my friend and I we tried 4 different drinks on the menu. The bar must get it's name because the drinks taste like candy (in the best way possible because they're so tasty) and you can't taste the alcohol. Definitely try the Vanilla Sky - out of the 4, it was the winner. Eve's orchard was also delish and bartender recommended. Can't wait to return - love it here. read more

I've been here twice and both times were so fun. I found the bartenders to be a delight. Our last bartender was knowledgeable about cocktails and made us things not on their menu. It is small but that's part of the charm. The lobby of the hotel is also a cool vibe so when people complain about sitting out there,I don't get it. I would only be annoyed being a hotel guest and NOT being able to sit in the lobby. The drinks aren't cheap but it's for sure a fun stop. read more

I haven't written a review in a while, however, when I YELP I try to review memorable and great experiences. This situation, however, called for a YELP review. On 5/29/2023 in celebration of my birthday and Memorial Day my friends went downtown to IVY Kitchen, Candy Bar, and Evening Bar. We had reservations at IVY Kitchen and Evening Bar, however, my friend really wanted to check out Candy Bar. She heard great things about it and since she doesn't visit downtown Detroit too often, it was a great opportunity to go. The bar was pretty empty around 6 p.m. There was a white couple at the bar, a group of about 8 white people seated next to us, and then my group...three black women. We ordered our drinks, and I overheard the white couple at the bar talking negatively about black women. I ignored it in an attempt to enjoy my time at Candy Bar. After finishing our one cocktail, we were off to our reservations at the Evening Bar. We stood outside the establishment and engaged in a brief conversation before the bartender, Justin, rushed out to speak with us. My friend assumed it might have been something wrong with the bill since she paid for everything using the QR Code. Justin approached us and asked, "Did we have a bad experience? He wanted to know if the racist conversation the couple had at the bar made us feel uncomfortable, which is why my friend didn't tip him? Wow, really?? My friend stated she did leave a tip using the QR code, unless she didn't do it correctly. Justin stated, "I just wanted to make sure. I didn't think you all did that out of malice". What!! My friend stated no we wouldn't haven't left without tipping. But I'm wondering if she did say "Yes, you are right, I didn't leave a tip, and I'm not". Then what? This was very uncomfortable and embarrassing, to say the least. My issue with Justin is he overheard a couple engaging in racist conversations and KNEW it could have made us very uneasy, however, he didn't even care about our comfort until he thought we didn't leave a tip!! So, now you are concerned about us being comfortable? Now you are acknowledging that the conversation that was had was inappropriate?  My friend did write to Candy Bar, and the manager acknowledged that this was not appropriate and was upset that it occurred. He stated he would remind their team that they should never run out to a customer about a tip. That's not enough! The manager didn't offer any type of compensation or  how to make things right with US. Your team needs cultural sensitivity training, microaggression training, etc. You can't help what the racist folks said at the bar, but not once did the bartender check on us to make sure we were okay due to this. Not ONCE did the bartender inform the couple that conversation is not allowed at your establishment. Justin did not care at all until he assumed a tip wasn't provided. So, very disappointing. Detroit is a BLACK CITY!  I don't care how gentrified downtown has become racism should not be tolerated at your establishment. Justin do better! Nick, provide more than just a "Talk" to your staff...provide REQUIRED training. read more

This place is so....much....fun... This was the last stop on my second annual friendsgiving and all of my friends really enjoyed it. You cannot make reservations ahead of time at this place so I knew there would be a wait and there was about a half hour wait. To make the most of this time we decided to make the lobby into a studio and do a photo shoot. The lobby has elegant and classic furniture so if you're looking for something from the roaring 1920's brought to life this is the place to come. When we were escorted to our tables we couldn't help but notice and fall in love with the giant disco ball in the corner of the ceiling. It really gave a unique flair to this place. They have all sorts of drinks here and anything you can think of they've got. Everything is fresh and chic and they have something for both friends that drink and mock tails for friends that don't. The Candy Bar is walking into a puff of pink cotton candy of a speakeasy. The tiny bar is located inside of the beautiful redone Siren Hotel. As tiny as it is, they only allow a certain number of people in at a time, so once you actually get in, it is not crowded. Because of the limited space, you may have to wait to check it out. We ordered drinks upstairs at Carl's, then enjoyed the lobby while we waited. The drinks are pricy, this is a sip and enjoy the atmosphere type of place. We enjoyed what we ordered, a few original cocktails. They also offer a short wine list. A fun place to check out, as long as you go at the right time. read more

This is the cutest bar! Inside is decorated with pink velvet furniture and a beautiful giant chandelier which makes it the perfect spot for a girls night out. They have a great cocktail menu with the best bartenders. The bar itself was smaller than I expected, and reservations are required. one extra thing to note is that your reservation only lasts for 1.5 hours. We stayed for our whole 1.5 hours and it was honestly the perfect amount of time to enjoy a couple of cocktails and take in the vibe. I cannot express how adorable this bar is, it made us feel very VIP. Like I said, this is the perfect spot to dress up and go out with your friends. I've been to Candy Bar three times with friends visiting me in Detroit. The luxe, pink atmosphere called me in initially, but the drinks are the reason I'll go back always! The espresso martini is hands down the BEST in the city - It's creamy and delicious! In fact, the table next to mine took one look at our drinks and bought a round of espresso martinis for my table and their own for introducing them to the drink. They also had an excellent cosmopolitan, however the drink sizes are quite small - thinking quality over quantity. Additionally, Candy Bar does not have traditional shots, but the bartender crafted a "shot" using Jameson for my group for a reunion celebration - absolutely delicious and 100% appreciated! I think this place is perfect for a planned out girls night or date night. Reservations book up fast and in advance for the weekend typically, so I try to look a week ahead. Additionally, I think the service is excellent while sitting in the tiny lounge, but much slower in the lobby area from my experience. read more
