Such an amazing experience, and I can't wait to go back after my products run out! I called ahead to see if this place required reservations, but they are walk‑in ONLY. I got there first thing in the morning with my mom and aunt to get started. We arrived on a Friday and parking was PACKED. We ended up finding a spot in a nearby lot, so if you have a certain time you want to arrive, make sure you factor in parking. Anyway, we made our way into the building, and a nice lady told us we could sit anywhere we wanted and gave us the rundown. You're able to make an array of items. We ended up making car fresheners, perfumes, lotions, and candles. You start off by picking your favorite scents and combinations. If you're anything like me and my mom, we are very indecisive, luckily they help you pick out scents and combinations they think you'll like. Seriously amazing staff! They were so patient with us to make sure we got the scent we loved. Overall, the process took about an hour, and depending on what you make, you'll have to come back after 3 -4 hours to pick up your items. When we came back around late noon, it was packed, so I definitely don't recommend coming at that time. Definitely go early in the morning or maybe a couple hours before they close. The prices weren't overly expensive at all. I can't remember the exact total, but I think I got around three items and only paid about $70. Either way, if I have more family coming in from out of town or just want a fun place to go with friends, I can definitely see myself coming back read more

There are probably over 100-200 fragrances, so lots of options! Really disappointed with our experience this afternoon. The two women working were rude and dismissive because they didn't agree with the three scent choices I loved. I didn't realize the job requirement was to be an authority on what customers should like. This is supposed to be a DIY experience where people get to create what makes them happy. It completely took the fun out of it. Instead of facilitating the process, they made me feel judged and uncomfortable for my own preferences. I've never had this issue at the Scottsdale location, which makes this even more frustrating. I was excited to bring our whole group of 6 in to have fun and support a location closer to home, but I honestly left feeling stupid for continuing and spending my money after how I was treated. Customer service matters. Hire people who actually want to be there and make the experience enjoyable. read more

I loved the selection of scents and how organized it is on the wall. There are a variety of options in terms of whatever you want your project to be and the quality is quite good. I am happy with the scents I ended up selecting for what I made which was body butter and a handbag roll on scent. The customer service was ok and the setting is really nice. I love the location for walkability and the concept is a great idea. I would have liked to be more involved in the whole project start to finish but basically there is a starter so it's more about scent selection. This was such a fun experience. They give a clipboard and a quick rundown of the experience when you first walk in. You then smell their different scents, (there are many to choose from!) and not down your favorites on the clipboard. It was helpful that they had jars of coffee beans to smell every so often to help cleanse your nose to better differentiate smells. You then decide on whether you'd like to make a candle, perfume roller, fragrance oil, body lotion or body butter. I liked that they had different wick types for their candles too. We opted for the fragrance oil since you can use it for an oil diffuser or put some drops in lotion a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil. Once you have your scents and which item you want to create, you take a seat and begin mixing to make the scent combination just the way you want. I loved that the assistants gave suggestions on how to balance or lean your scents different ways. It really made the difference in leveling up our scents. Came here a little while ago with my friend Sara, we made a reservation for a weekday night and it wasn't that busy but I'm still glad we made one. We had so much fun picking at our senses and picking out the jar and making our candles together, overall five out of five experience! It was just a little bit, disappointing how fast it was, maybe 30 minutes total! A beautiful selection of smells to choose from, and the store is nice and clean. But I went in with a group and we were pushed through very quickly. No experience of being there and enjoying our time was an option. My daughter was told out of the 3 scents that she wanted in her candle, she could only do 2. The woman did not like her combination and was negative about it. I had 4 scents without a problem, was confused. Only then to also find out they did not have my favorite scent- at all- completely gone she says, find another? Throughout the rest of our time at the mixing bar, it was not enjoyable or engaging, especially while they cleaned the plates right next to us with a big alcohol spray bottle that we endured breathing and receiving spray remnants. My husband brought me here for a date day. We had such a great time. I liked that there are plenty of options to choose from. We started by smelling all the scents to pick which ones we liked. We had fun sharing the scents with each other. After we made our list, we continued on to pick which products we wanted to make with our scents. I chose the sugar scrub and a candle and my husband did a car diffuser and candle. There are many different size options for the candles as well as colors of jars. Onward to the mixing process. The lady assigned to us recommended 2-3 scents of our favorites that would mix well together. We then mixed them up before pouring them into our products. I wasn't confident I would do a good job, but I love how everything ended up smelling! This is such a fun place for a date or for a girls day. I came here on a double date for the Valentine's weekend special. I have never done a candle making expedience before and it was pretty cool and unique. We did the reserved private experience but the one major qualm was needing to still encounter the crowds when it came to the scent wall. My boyfriend actually said "they should have a scent wall in here too". I agree. We did not expect to have to deal with the crowd and stress involved with the scent wall. We also saw the Polaroid photos on the event page and that was part of the package too. However, seeing the small Polaroid we got (where it was blurry and white washed) was disappointing). Taking a photo with our phones would have been better. Other than that, it was a cool experience but I wouldn't do that again especially since it wasn't fully avoiding the crowds for the extra cost and the Polaroid was a let down. The event details said we would need to come back the next day to pick up the candle but it was a nice surprise to be able to still pick it up that evening. That was a a nice surprise. I also thought we'd get a real rose but I am actually pleasantly surprised with the fake rose we got. Very cool experience. Came in during a team builder and created my own scented candle. There are so many scents to choose from. The staff is really nice and will help you perfect your smell. Each item is reasonably priced. This would be a great date night place or something to do if you're into candles or scents. The only feedback I'd give for the minus one star is, it felt like we were indirectly asked to leave when we were done. The staff kept repeating the candle would be ready in three hours. It was a bit off putting because no one else was in the establishment. If we could've sat and mingled until the candle was dry, or until other customers came in would've been nice. Cute idea! Everything about this was good. The location, the parking, and the staff. The only thing was, it's a fast experience only about 15 min to pick out your scents and to make your candle, and then, there's a 2hr wait, to pick up your end result. This is a cute place for a mini date or mini chat with friends but then afterwards you might want to be sure to have plans to go eat while you wait the 2hrs for the product to be ready for pickup. I liked that, one of the ladies suggested that we secretly named each others candles and the big reveal was after. A friend and I came into candle chemistry on a Friday evening, as something fun to do. The place was packed! I definitely think it might be helpful to implement reservations for busy times. They have all the potential scents along the wall, but it was kind of hard to get to them with all the people. After we listed our top scents, I quickly grabbed a candle container and snagged the last two seats in the middle of the "bar" area, while my friend shopped around. The gal who helped us mix our scents was very nice and gave her opinion on what she thought would smell good. She even let my friend start over when she didn't like her combination! The prices are pretty reasonable for the candles, but I didn't get to look much beyond that section. I thought it was really cool that you can make reed diffusers, hand soap, or sugar scrub in addition to candles! I'd love to come back and make one (or more!) of those! The sucky thing is that they didn't tell us until AFTER our candles were finished that we would need to come back the next day to get our goodies. So frustrating - what if we weren't local to come back or if we were leaving town the next day? I'd certainly want to know ahead of time that I couldn't pick my candle up the same day. Hope they expand their hours eventually, closing at 7 in downtown Gilbert on Fridays and Saturdays is going to lose them lots of money! read more

Was a fun little experience making the candles. I will say the scents didn't smell the best to me, and I had a really hard time making a scent combo that I liked, in the end I came up with one that I found okay. I picked up the candle today and once it was set it in with the wax it smelled a lot better! Overall satisfied with my candle. She told me I wasn't allowed to pick a seat until I decided on the scents first. And lectured me on how the process is. (This is my fourth time at Candle Chemistry). Once my friends and I picked a candle container, We then had to ask for the sheet to write down our scents. After we selected our scents, we were helped and rushed by Becca. UPDATE: I googled how to get around the short wick and now... I am burning my candle consistently. UPDATE Done. What a great concept! I stopped in on a Saturday evening with a friend: we wanted to try something new and different. Turns out, This place certainly is not short on the new or the different. Of course, we wanted to make our own custom candles. Definitely for the experience because i am pretty sure I have more candies than I need. The sales person walked us through the process and off we went sniffing and noting our favorite scents. I love warm earthy scents and i also enjoy citrusy scents too. After we compiled our list of favorites, our salesperson showed us potential combinations to create a nice scent. Great! I picked a favorite combo and BAM... I felt like I was back in my mad scientist days! A drop of this, a squirt of that, mix mix mix! Voila! A lovely scented potion was made. The salesperson mixed my scent in to the soy candle wax and then it was time to wait for the candle to cool. Great experience; but that's only half the story. I picked up our candles a few days later... I'll be honest, that thing didn't smell anything like the fragrance I created. When I created it, it smelled like a Man's Work(what I named my candle): you know when you are sitting at a coffee shop waiting on your morning coffee and a well-dressed man walks by smelling so good you have to turn your head to see who walked by. But what I got was: whiskey and Old Spice funk after a night at a honky tonk... you know that scent at 2am white sitting in the Waffle House and that guy walks by and you frown as you turn to see WTF just bruised your nose!!!! It's almost as if the scents of other candles melded their aromas with mine, creating an odorous mess. Additionally , the wick was cut so short my candle won't stay lit! I gave this three stars because the experience was good, but my candle won't even stay lit long enough for me to smell my whiskey and old spice funk. Return Factor: 35% I'd go back if an event came up. Not sure I'd return otherwise.... Maybe to try a pre made candle, but my faith in the quality of the scented oils is shot. read more

I would do it again if I knew the candles would Give off the same sent when burned. We would have even paid extra for more oil if that's what it took. For Valentine's Day they offered a fake rose, micro Polaroid pic and chocolates. I was ok with that I understand business have to make money. We stopped in to make a few candles and it is a really fun experience. The lotion is actually better than the candles. As others have mentioned the candles, don't really smell that much when you burn them it was a little disappointing. We have done candlemaking when we were on vacation and the experience was a little longer, this did feel a bit rushed. They probably should use more oil in the candles, and again, as another review mentioned, they use the same amount, regardless of the size we picked. We went here for date night, and while we had a good time, one of the girls helping us was all about my boyfriend and flirting with him the entire time. We laughed about it when we left because we thought it was funny she was so persistent in front of me. However, when we came back to pick up the candles, she had drawn him a picture and left a note on his candle that she pointed out to show him. Went in on a wim with my son, mother son day. We made the candles had a great time and our first set of candles burned great and my son loved it. Went back a second time in a month and my sons candle was great mine not so much. That is why I am giving it 3 stars. My candle has burned uneven and one wick won't even stay lit: for what I paid for a double wick candle it shouldn't have this problem. I am giving the staff and concept five stars- is a very cool experience!! The only thing for me that didn't land well is that I was told these are all super high quality essential oils- but after doing a little research (after I made my purchases) think I have found some of the oils are technically considered fragrances, and not essential oils. (For clear purposes) Which worries me I'm going to get headaches the more I use the diffuser spray I made! Already did the first day and had to move the bottle completely out of my bedroom. (Still smells very good though...) I really do have concern for the products effect on humans breathing these in. But again- truly- great experience designing a candle for my mom. And great conversation was had with both girls (mother and daughter) who were working. They were both fantastic!!! If someone from corporate could prove to me otherwise that these fragrance oils are very high quality true essential oils- I may return, but for now I'm feeling guided to stay away for health reasons. read more

Had to actually finally go in person and ask them if we could schedule it. Picked the candles up a couple weeks later to only wait even longer (4 weeks) to light the candle to get the "best smell" only to light our candles and smell nothing. Almost $100 to have wasted candles. Called Multiple times with one call back which left a voicemail to where I called right back. It's been almost a week that I've heard from them... Normally I don't do reviews but after our experience we felt like it was necessary to do one. Overall, the experience creating our own candles was good. Our candle maker helper provided us with some good scent combinations, but was not very enthusiastic during our process- not a big deal though. The real issue we had was post-candle making... When coming to pick up our candles we ended up getting someone else's in one of our two bags and did not realize until we got back (we got two candles and one soap). When calling to see what our options were to get our correct candle, all THREE team members we talked to on the phone seemed more interested in getting the candle that we had (the wrong one) back than apologizing for the error and getting us our correct one. Multiples times over the phone we were told that they "needed to swap it out because the other customer was going to come and get it." While in the end, a team member did come to us to swap out the candles NO apology was ever given to us, nor was any additional compensation given to us because of their error. Over the phone we were told that we would at least get a $5 certificate or small product for the inconvenience, however in the end we didn't receive anything. Candles smell good. Had the most amazing experience today! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very kind and knowledgeable woman who explained the whole process to us. After we picked our scents we sat down and were instantly greeted by another young woman who was also so helpful. We were a little indecisive of scents initially but she was so helpful is guiding us towards our vision. All in all we had such a good time and we really appreciate how great of service we received.
