I can't speak to the food - only the service. As California expats living in Europe, my husband had heard great things about this restaurant and was desperate to go. In fact, we took a train from London to Paris for the sole purpose of visiting this restaurant. So we showed up around 6:30pm and the place was jam packed. Every seat taken. No problem, my husband rarely gets this excited about anything, so we were more than willing to wait. Some guy behind the counter told us that the wait would be around 30 minutes to get food. Again, no problem, though I did ask if it would be possible to order take out instead. He replied that the wait would be the same for take out since there were already six orders in the queue in front of us. Any American will attest that 30 minutes is not too long to wait for authentic Mexican food when you've gone a long time without it. We had no problem waiting...until a couple walked in and got seated immediately...and then another couple walked in and got seated after them. Bam! Four people walk in several minutes after us and get seated. No lectures on wait times. No discouraging words about how many orders were in front of them. So what was special about them? Rather, what was unappealing about us? For what it's worth, we had our three kids (ages 11, 9 and 1) with us. They were beyond well behaved. I don't believe they said a single word the entire time we were in there. They stood stock still, pressed against the wall just waiting to be allowed to order. Given that the one year old was in a carrier on my back, it's not unreasonable to think that those two couples (totaling four seats) could have been our seats. So here's the really outrageous part. We didn't complain. We didn't roll our eyes or make heavy sighs or even shuffle in place. We were so freaking excited to have authentic Mexican food, and had literally crossed the English Channel to eat there, that even after guy-behind-the-counter's discouragement, AND watching four people walk in and take seats after us, we still waited...until guy behind the counter basically told us to go away. Seriously, he all but told us to go away. After 20 minutes of waiting (for what he said would be 30 minutes), he finally turned to us and basically said that we would not be eating anytime soon. We left. Look, I get it. We're from Southern California. I get the whole "too cool to serve parents and their kids" vibe. I get the whole hipster, hole-in-the-wall mystique they were trying to hold on to. Problem is, we weren't some asshole family with obnoxious kids trying to turn their restaurant into Applebee's. We were genuine foodies who heard great things about this restaurant and were willing to wait (patiently, quietly) to see if it stands up to the great food we have at home. Never got the chance. So, again. I can't speak to the food. AND, if you're a fabulously attractive couple (in a bohemian, youthful, ironic kind of way) I'm sure you'll have a great, authentic meal there. As a Native San Diegan (20 minutes from the Mexican border) and having crossed the border just for street tacos, I was skeptical when a friend told me this was the best Mexican food he's ever had. But I chose to trust him seeing as he was from Phoenix, Arizona and has also had his own share of Mexican food. So was it the best? Far from. But did it exceed expectations? Yes X10. Started with chips and salsa with "sour cream" Sour cream is in quotes because it was more like French cheese than sour cream, but it was nonetheless tasty and the chips were fresh. The salsa was good, if not a little watery. The tacos I had were stellar. The Carnitas were seared on one side perfectly and went well with the various hot sauces available on the table. The Chayote was a spicy and tasty vegetable option that also was top notch. The highlight of my trip though was the Tostada de Tinga. A crunchy taco topped with chicken and onion was the perfect blend of savory flavors and crispy textures. If I were a resident of Paris, I would be back very, very often. Sadly, the wait of over 20 minutes for many people in line (we were lucky and got seated in 5) might be too long when other flavors await on this short vacation trip. So why 5 stars? I'm not here to compare Candelaria to Mexican food from Mexico. I'm here to review what they accomplished. And they accomplished a lot. read more

This bar should NOT operate during covid-19 . The people who work there reinforce the public to wear masks yet they wear their masks below their nose inside the restaurant. They also leave the salsa on the counter which means everyone who wants to serve salsa on their taco must touch the same bottles and then place them back in the counter ( its so gross you can see the finger tips on them). Food was terrible, cold tortilla, a tiny bit of serving (no joke, i'm used to Servings in Paris being so small, but this was ridiculous) and the "frozen" margarita was melted. When you tell the person in charge the blonde guy with dreads he's just so rude, and the lady on the counter hopeless saying there's nothing she can do. I was dubious about ordering Mexican food in France. My boyfriend convinced me to give Candelaria a try. We placed a takeaway order and waited inside for about 10 minutes. The person grilling the taco meat was literally making one taco at a time. The hipster girl at the counter rudely asked us to wait outside for our food in 12° temperature, including my boyfriend's 70 year old mother. I guess we were killing their hipster vibe. It took about 30-45 minutes for them to give us 6 tacos. This was on a relatively slow weeknight. The tacos were very bland and mediocre. I'd say about Chevy's quality. Skip this place and find better tacos in Mexico or California, or Texas. read more
