My first encounter with this local gem was over twenty years ago on my first visit to this Ohio town, and it's still around with improvements, enhancements and is still great overall! A terrific family run business. From its jam-packed with a wide array of dry and can goods on grocery shelves, great meats, extensive local baked goods, and a much renovated and expanded restaurant and really nice Mexican-style bar! If you're in town and are in the mood for an ice-cold Dox Equis and/or Jalisco style Mexican cuisine, this the place for you! Their goodies run the gamut from an incredible Pozole to Grilled Chicken delights, to delectable Burritos to mouthwatering tacos, some terrific, refried beans and incredible chips and salsa! I think they are one of the top five Mexican food joints in the Defiance area. Oh, and do your groceries while you're at it. Buen provecho ya'll.

What really bothered me was the surprise 3.5% surcharge they add if you pay with a card. That includes debit cards too. I didn't see any signs about it and wasn't told until the check came. At that point, I didn't have cash, so I had no choice. For anyone wondering, surcharges on debit cards aren't allowed under Visa and Mastercard rules. I get that places are trying to cover costs, but it should be clear up front and within the rules. I wouldn't have stayed if I knew about the extra fee--or I would've stopped at my bank across the street to grab some cash. Just a heads-up for anyone thinking of stopping by: bring cash.

Tortilla chips and salsa were on our table almost as soon as we were seated, our drinks were delivered shortly after that. I ordered queso with our order and it was brought out in a couple of minutes, hot and tasty! I ordered the birria taco's and a large Modelo, my wife ordered two steak street taco's. The birria taco's are the best birria that I've had yet! The mix of flavors is so good! Savory, salty, spices, so good! My wife was only able to finish one of her taco's, but she ate the whole side order of Mexican rice, which was large. We will definitely go back. Yelp did its job, as usual. We were seated immediately and the restaurant has a great vibe - comfortable seating, nice decor, and spotlessly clean. Our waiter was very attentive and gracious. We ordered the fresh guacamole as a starter and enjoyed a burrito platter and an enchilada platter (with rice and beans). Delicious flavor and huge portions The only real surprise was the fried topping on the guacamole. I think they were pork rinds... we tried a few but elected to go old school with tortilla chips. Service was fast. The food was really good. The menu is large - but I found every feature I was considering. This is just a few minutes from I-75 and I would drive by the 10+ options again to dine here.

Our waiter was polite, efficient and an all around good guy. Food was so good! Neither one of us could finish so we got to go boxes, plus we had both finished our tortillas and ordered more before we decided we were full, those went in our boxes too. I shared half of it with my friend who agreed. We spoke to the waiter and he commented that all margaritas have lime in them. I added a bunch of sugar to the other half and it was ok. The thing is, shouldn't he have offered to replace it? He was arrogant enough to walk away from the table. We will not be returning. There are plenty of good Mexican restaurants where you don't have to wonder if your $13 cocktail is going to be good enough to actually drink.
