In a walk around DC, I wasn't searching for it, but saw a few folks stumble up from a staircase and immediately went and investigate. Once I peered down the stairs and saw the mirror, I knew I found it and made my way inside! The door is manned and the security takes the ambiance and rules seriously. Sharing a few house rules upon entry, mainly the no flashlight and/or flash usage. They know this can be an issue, so they installed lights under the bar to help read their menu, which is presented on a piece of cardboard. The bar and front couch area is the darkest part, as the lounge seating in the rear is a bit better lit. I didn't get any recommendations on drinks to have here, but immediately gravitated to the Aviation, their house crafted gin cocktail. It was delightful and well-crafted. All cocktails were priced at $17, which is a bit on the higher side of things, even for DC. Service was okay. Bartenders were decent, a tad nonchalant with service, but that's kind of the vibe here. There was urine on the floor, a strong foul odor, and the surface was slippery. For a speakeasy positioning itself as upscale, this was a major miss. However, I did come once during an off-peak time, right in the middle of the week around 1:00 PM for lunch--and it wasn't to busy, so we were easily able to just sit right at the bar.  I would definitely recommend checking this place out!
