This place offers rodizio for $25. 10 rounds of meat only (no seafood), offering lamb chops, two types of steak, chicken wings, ribs, skewered chicken, chorizo, and regular sausage. I think there may have been another round involving bacon, but that never made it to our table. The way it works is that a server will come to your table with a giant skewer with about 4-6 pieces of one type of meat (we had two people doing rodizio) and you get to tell him how many of those you would like. Then they bring out the next round. It isn't something to do if your short on time, because obviously ten rounds of food takes some time. The rodizio was a great way to sample everything, although after a while everything from the grill starts to taste a tad similar. Delicious chorizo and lamb chops were outstanding. The chicken wings were a tad too peppery. Also had the opportunity to taste the salmon with garlic sauce, which was one of the TASTIEST SALMON I've ever had. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Delicious sauce. Came with vegetables, yellow rice and potatoes, but was able to substitute the vegetables for yuca and black beans. Yuca was crispy, but soft inside, so really well done with those. Dessert was limited, however, as they offer tartufo, cheesecake, tiramisu, and gelato. The pistachio gelato was good, but had chunks of actual pistachio that were annoying to eat. The tiramisu tasted like it had been sitting there a while, so not my favorite. Waiter told us they were out of the dessert of the day and the vanilla gelato, so we never got to try those. Menu was pricey, but reasonable for this type of classy little establishment. 4 stars for dinner. Not 5 because dessert was disappointing and rounds of rodizio may have been missing. Went there for dinner on Sat and made reservation in the morning to make sure we get a table and it was ready upon arrival. The server took our drink order, the service was excellent with a couple of minor hiccups, brought us our drinks and salad (small salad to share with 4 people). Drinks: Large red sangria and a small white sangria, the red was a little too sweet for our taste and we preferred the white but both are good Appetizers: mixed picadinho mixto and I want to try the grilled octopus salad but it wasn't on the menu, asked the service and he said no problem and he will put the order in for me. Both dishes were excellent and a must try. Dinner: Shrimp in rice, pork chop and rodizio, all the food were good. The rodizio consist of smoked sausages, turkey sausages, different types of beef (sirloin, tri-tip, beef ribs, etc), chicken wings (didn't try), chicken meat (a little dry), Bacon wrapped chicken (came out too late), pork loin and pork ribs so you can see there are plenty of meat to choose from. It took a while before they start the rotation while the other entrees came out earlier. Some of the meat were season well but other were bland so you need to add salt and or pepper to your taste but you will leave full and satisfied Dessert: 2 espressos, strawberry tart and chocolate mousse and all were good according to my dinner companions since I was too full to partake. We showed up around 8pm on a Friday night and did not have reservations. Try to ignore the neighborhood you have to drive through to get here, there was a good amount of parking and the inside here was very nice. Got sat right away in the room without a bar. We knew we wanted the rodizio, so ordering was quick any easy. Started off with a few beers, lots of IPA options, but nothing I really wanted. So bread and salad gets dropped off right away, but it took a while for the rodizio to get going. Another table was being served, but not us, which was annoying. I overhead another party that was there before us complaining about not being served. Finally the rice and beans come out, which I guess is the signal for the rodizio to start service. By this time, I'm already on beer 2. They do not give you the feed me, don't feed me card thing here that I've had at just about every other rodizio I've tried. Also, they only gave us one tong to grab the meat- not 1 each. So the main event starts... slowly. We get top round, bacon chicken, bacon steak, chorizo, pork loin, chicken hearts, ribs, wings, and another type of steak. I was really impressed with the spice on the wings and that the meat wasn't over salted. The chicken was also very well cooked- not super dry like I'm used to at a rodizio. The servers were young, and a few cuts we got were terrible. So round 1 winds down, but I'm still looking for a few more slices. Waiter comes over to see if we are done (the feed me card would be good here), and we say no. Chicken wings eventually come over, and right after we are asked if we are done again. Come on now... When I'm finally done I get a carrot cake to-go because I am stuffed. Had it the next day and it was excellent. This is a good restaurant overall! Recently moving to South River, we decided to give this place a try for a birthday dinner! To be more specific, my birthday dinner! We were quite surprised by how big the portions were! The food was fit for a king! We got the yucas to start, which if no one here is familiar with Portuguese food, are some veggie similar to potatoes. I have to say I was not a big fan of them. I found them to be quite bland, and the texture was quite odd! However, I'm not blaming the restaurant on this, as the appetizer had shellfish to go with it, but we asked no shellfish, because we don't eat shellfish! Then for an entree, I got the chicken francese. The chicken was delicious and perfectly cooked, but it was slightly hard to cut! The lemon sauce was very good, but slightly strong! The service was very good, too and our waiter moved really quickly! And finally, the dessert. The best part! We got the flan, and it was super nice and soft, and such a sweet texture with the caramel! Definitely a winner! Best of all, we got it on the house! Overall, was this restaurant very good? Just went to Campozino a Portuguese restaurant in South River, NJ- they've only been open for 1 year so far so not many people know about them, they are absolutely delicious and VERY generous with their seafood! I highly recommend! We made reservations the day before and they had the table ready upon our arrival. Oh goodness I am so pleased with this place! This is the second time that I have visited this restaurant. Once with my boyfriend and then a second time with all of my boyfriend's family. With such a big party they were able to accommodate us in a backroom which was very nice! Okay so on to me ordering...I could not decide but I was definitely in the mood for something with seafood which isn't very difficult when you're at a Portuguese restaurant! So I found the seafood in rice Portuguese style. It came in a HUGE POT! I was like "how am I going to eat all of this"!? Seriously though, the portions are humungous and you can certainly share between the two of you. The spices and flavor all melded together so nicely and I couldn't have been more pleased with my dinner. The sangria is on a whole other level as well! I loved the food here. It is mainly Portugese but they also have grilled items if Portugese food isn't to your fancy. The atmosphere was very cool. The mini salad was excellent, and the bread was delicious. I could have made a meal out of both starters, but we ordered the fried calamari appetizer and it was perfectly made! Very crispy and golden-brown! We all ordered rice dishes which came out in their own steaming pots. Try the "Rice Portugese Style" which has mussels, clams, small shrimp, and larger shrimp. The portion size was good - I couldn't finish my meal after the appetizer so I ended up taking most of the food home. CONS: I didn't like that they didn't take the shells off of the larger shrimp so that they could be easily edible but I suppose that it adds to the rustic feel of the place. One thing that I hate is SHELLS on shrimp! I mean, they split the shrimp shells so that we could take them off ourselves, but I still didn't enjoy it. Second, the food was very salty for my taste. Also, there wasn't enough room - the place is HUGE, but I felt that table size and seating arrangement were horrible. The waiter would put all of our entrees on the corners of the table because it was so small and we would get confused as to which entrée was ours. I sat towards the back of the place and the waiter CONSTANTLY had to get through to the other larger tables in the back so that meant that I was constantly moving my chair to accommodate the waiter. PROS: Very rustic atmosphere: except for the salad and the bread that was about it. We tried to get reservations at Rio Mar in SR but they were booked until 8:30 p.m. so we decided to go to Campozino at around 6:30 p.m. We made reservations so that we didn't have to wait and our table was ready immediately which was good. However, the lady with the reservation SHOULD have given us a larger table. Like I said there were some larger spacious tables in the back and corners, but those were occupied by two people. Campozino is a hidden gem on a little side street in south river. Not only is the Rodizio (their main draw) cooked amazingly perfect, but it includes so many types of meats and even FISH! Their menu includes a ton of different options for those who only like chicken, seafood, or red meat. Vegetarian options are there but limited, as in their culture vegetarians don't really exist. Clams and garlic and shrimp and garlic are unbelievable. Drinks are properly strong, and reasonably priced. Sangria is good, as is the caipirinha, their signature drink. The outside of the building is done up well, and the interior atmosphere is comfortable and unimposing. Parking is available on the street as well as having a big lot down the road. For about 10 mins we saw waiters looking at our table whispering to each other...more than likely debating over who wanted to take us. Finally a guy comes over gives us menus and says "I'm busy at the moment but I'll be right back" and walks away. When he comes back we ask for a few different things and he claims they are out of them!!! thinking to myself. Really? It's 5:30? So anyway I say "Well what DO YOU have?" ( let me note that I have never been to a restaurant where you have to call in advance to order food to make sure it's ready before you arrive) Waiter: Chicken sandwich and yellow rice. My friend: ok well we'll have two of those And a pitcher of Sangria. Fast foward to about 20 minutes in and the waiter comes over and says "we are expecting a large party so you have to finish up so I can close out your bill" So I say "well we're not done yet! And what about those other seats on the far left? They're empty. Can We have another pitcher of Sangria?" *With a smile Waiter: *sucks teeth I'll be right back. So another man walks over to our table and says he's the manager. "ma'am we need this table for our guests who have reservations" I take out my money and throw it at him and walk the fuck out. Our kids (3yo and 1yo) we're getting restless and hungry. The chicken kabobs I ordered for my son was undercooked and pink inside (hope we don't get sick because we did take a bite each and spit it out, ruining the rest of dinner). We had great expectations, however we're very dissapointed. Everything was just terrible. We made a reservation more than one month in advance and requested a specific room. We called two days ahead and confirmed our reservation and the room we booked. When we came, our room was used by another party and we were placed to another spot. The waiter told us that it would take 5 min to get the appetizers - it ended up to be more than 1 hour after to calling a waiter and then manager to remind. The water was never served, so we had to get the glasses and water from the bar ourselves. The food was OK, and they even told us that one of the bottles was on the house to compensate for troubles. It was nice, except the bill had a couple of bottles we never ordered, and a couple more coffees we never ordered. So we had to adjust the bill at least two times, and we finally gave up. In addition, we asked to wrap up some leftovers , and they told us that they forgot and threw it away. Food is okay but very expensive, what's ridiculous is the actual service. I booked a party here 4 months in advance for a certain time slot and was promised. I recently just found out that they can't approve my original request because the time slot was filled. Doesn't make sense cause I booked it correct? Food was poor and tasteless, appetizers were slightly raw and drinks were being done in the room bar by teenage kids so they were watered down. Don't miss out! I went to this place only once with a group of 16 people. Everything was excellent. I got the T bone steak and it was perfect. My wife had the Skirt steak same result perfect! Fried Yuca perfect! Picadhino perfect! They even had a home made hot sauce that really just completed the meal for me. A lot of places I ask for homemade hot sauce they look at me like I have 3 eyes and bring me Tabasco - blah... The service was excellent. It was a young staff and they were very professional.
