    Skirt steak tips
    Steven B.

This is a small local restaurant with a nice atmosphere for a date or family meal. This was my first visit and the experience was outstanding. The food was fresh, extremely delicious and presented well. You can see in the photos that I've attached how great the food looked. Our waiter was John and he was extremely attentive. The cost of the food seemed a little pricey but the quality and preparation were excellent. I highly recommend a visit to Campozino. My only fear about posting this review is that I won't be able to get a table when I need to return.

Campozino is on my date night rotation list and we are always happy with the food and service here. The skirt steak is very good (and this is coming from someone who is very picky about red meat) The pear martini is also excellent, even though most restaurants in south river are best known for their sangria.

Our lunch at Campozinos was surprising and excellent..... Why? you may ask was it surprising Simply because I dined at Campozinos not 4 months prior and the experience was so unremarkable that not only did I forget what I ate but the meal didn't even warrant a review. This time was completely different. Early lunch on a Friday and the bar side dining room already sees the bar filled as well as half of the tables and we were seated immediately. Basket of warm rolls, butter and waters with lemon appared soon after....Who does this anymore? Menu is comprehensive and well composed so we start with the octopus salad and clams in garlic sauce. The octopus is tender and seasoned well with toasted garlic, wine and herbs...a unconventional rendition of a Octopus salad but so satisfying. The tender clams in olive oil, white wine, sweet garlic slivers {soft and sweet, they must have been finished in a confit} cilantro with just a hint of finely minced chilis was one of the best I've had and the reason you hang on to those warm rolls...I sopped up every drop of the briny, garlicky sauce and wished there was more. Our main courses were next.... With a florish out came a Grilled Picanha laying on top of a clay roofing tile heated by a sterno along with grilled pineapple and rice, fries and black beans..Hokie perhaps but the Picanha was done perfectly rare, tender and juicy.A little bowl of drippings poured over rice along with the perfect black beans was a carnivore's perfect bite. I had my go to Porco Alentejana {pork with clams}. I've had this iconic dish from Nazaré to Newark and this over abundant version was one of the best. Tender cubes of fatty pork, fried potatoes in a slightly spicy and tart sauce was so satisfying however I did miss the crunchy sour sting of the traditional giardiniera and black olives that usually flavors this dish. A shared bread pudding and a couple shots of Espresso later, with a heavy doggy bag some thoughts.... Campozino is a more refined version of the typical Portuguese restaurant you'll find in Central Jersey with a far better menu, service, excecution and pricing that even their Neighbor right across the parking lot {Portuguese Fisherman}. We had an excellent meal with attentive service, great food and even a Sangria doggy bag when my wife couldn't finish the pitcher... Who does that? We love Campozino and I can't wait to explore their menu further..... I suggest you do the same.

Just an update from my last visit... We were a group of 8 for our Wednesday get together. After a round of Sangria ( get the red) this time we shared 3 apps. That being clams in a garlic sauce, yuka bites with sliced sausage and stuffed mushrooms. Popular entrees were definitely off the daily specials menu. For her, a pork filet mignon that had a wine fig reduction. And I chose a seafood rice dish. Both were excellent. For a dinner, you will have leftovers. Dessert- no chance this time. I gotta mention again that this area is quite popular for Portuguese food. I mean after all they are located in South River and there are 3 different ones in a two mile radius. Our service was excellent. You can tell they are experienced in the industry. It's good to be back again. Cost per person about $55 each. USC#13

I've been making this a normal spot at least once a month. Staff is always friendly, quality of food is usually consistent and the restaurant has a comfortable ambiance. Love their porterhouse and skirt steaks. Mashed potatoes and potato chips are delicious!

Very bad food. Had the rodizio and they hardly came around with any meats. Service was bad and food was sparse. Very disappointing.

Menu and is there a buffet that I heard about?

No buffet anymore. They added the very popular Rodezio instead and it's well worth it.

Several servers were keeping in touch with us all throughout the meal and never left us hanging for long. They were always right there asking us how we were doing and if we needed anything. The only problem was the noise, just as a consequence of it being a busy and successful restaurant it was LOUD. We had to basically shout at eachother to be heard. Didn't ruin the experience and Im not sure how they could even fix that but it was annoying at times. The food was all pretty good, the shrimp shishkabob being our overall favorite with its nice charcoal grilled flavor and big juicy shrimp. I had the Seafood Ria Mar which was all kinds of shellfish in a bouliabase. It was a little peppery and overall I'd give it a 7/10. Not amazing but pretty good. The house salad is always very nice and also free, 8/10. We also got the stuffed mushrooms which I would give a 7.5/10. Great temperature and texture with good taste but it was a little small, being 6 smallish mushrooms. I guess it was supposed to be for one person but splitting it between the two of us it was a little small. The sangria was great as always and they made a decent pitcher of mocktail for just $8 which was a good price in my opinion. The lemon sorbet at the end was OK, 6.5/10. I would definitely recommend that you try this place. Even if you don't like seafood they have a lot of good options for you with all the land animals. Give this place a try! We come here all the time for special occasions. Its my mom's favorite restaurant.

However, my utensils were dirty when I sat down. the waiter apologized right away, but it made me wonder about the rest. The bread and salad were complimentary and both were really good. We started with a pitcher of red sangria, which everyone enjoyed. For entrées, we ordered the bacon-wrapped chicken (the sauce was tasty, but the chicken itself was dry), the braised short ribs (very good), and the seafood rice, which was delicious. The shrimp avo was just okay. Overall, I'd recommend the place for the friendly service and good food; just make sure your utensils are clean before you start eating.

I started with 2 Beef Empanadas. They were hot with a crispy outside and a soft and tender inside. They were good. Brasa offers a variety of fillings for their Empanadas like Chicken, Pork, or Beef. I then chose for my main dish their Large size Chicken Picadinho. It's enough for two people. I must say after trying many other places that Brasa Wood Fired Grill has the best Picadinho in the area. What makes theirs so good is they add potatoes and sausage in it with the Chicken and Yellow Rice. Their Yellow Rice was very moist and tender it wasn't dry like other places. I really enjoyed every bite. Brasa offers Salads, and a Variety of different Sandwiches, Sides like Sweet Plantains, Mexican Street Corn, Burgers, Shrimp in Garlic Sauce, Wings, Shrimp Ceviche and more. This place is casual with a warm and cozy feel. The staff is very nice and friendly. They do have some seating for dining in. The food is delicious! This will definitely be my go to for Portuguese BBQ.

My husband's mom, who lives in town, has been to their other location before and said it was very good, so we were looking forward to trying this location. When we first arrived, we were greeted warmly and seated immediately, which made for a great first impression. We ordered a pitcher of sangria and the grilled octopus appetizer. While we waited, they also brought out soup and bread, which was a nice touch. For our main dish, we decided to share the seafood paella. Once we mentioned we would only be ordering one paella to share, I felt a noticeable change in our server's attitude. I also added an extra lobster since the dish only came with half a lobster. The additional lobster was reasonably priced at $25, but unfortunately it was very overcooked -- dry, chewy, and much smaller than expected. That said, the paella itself had great flavor. However, after the dish was dropped off, I do not recall our server checking back on us or asking how everything was. We finished the meal with the blueberry crumble, which was delicious and probably my favorite part of the meal. Overall, I was not impressed with either the food -- especially the lobster -- or the service at this location. While the meal had some positives, the overall experience was disappointing compared to what we had heard about their other location.
