Stumbled upon this spot and discovered it was a Michelin guide recommendation. We didn't have a reservation, but we managed to snag a table around lunch time. Loved the open kitchen environment, so you could really see the work they put into the dishes. The interior of the restaurant is stunning -- a mix of industrial + rustic that somehow worked perfectly together. I noticed a bunch of reviews complaining about the service, but our servers were rather pleasant to us. We decided to try some: TOSTADA DE PANZA ATUN and TARTAR: The tuna belly tostada is an absolute must order. Best bang for your buck because they really loaded on the tuna belly. It was buttery and melted in your mouth. The tartar tostada was also very delicious and the sweetness of the avocado balanced out the flavors. CEVICHE DE CARRETA: The presentation was lovely and the server encouraged us to take a pic before we mixed the seafood into the sauce. The sauce was divine and every piece of seafood was fresh tasting. Could not get over how sweet the avocados were too! The blue corn tostada complementing this was one of the freshest tasting tostada we had this whole trip. Luckily they refilled our tostada basket constantly, because we were going through these like nothing. OSTION KUMAMOTO and CENIZA: Incredibly fresh! I believe most of their oysters are from Baja California or Baja California Sur. The oysters had a very subtle brine to it, but also very sweet and creamy. Actually loved the ponzu sauce more than a standard vinaigrette. CAMARONES FRITO: I'm usually pretty particular with my fried shrimps, but my god these were delicious! Somehow the shrimps were fried so well that the shell blended seamlessly with the meat. These were served with two types of sauces: a garlic aioli and ponzu. Both paired very nicely with the shrimp -- the ponzu being my favorite. This was the perfect amount for my party of 2. After experiencing the quality of food and atmosphere, I get why they're a Michelin guide recommendation. Campobaja turned out to be our favorite meal of this entire trip and had us running back to our friends to tell them about it. Would definitely return! read more

This restaurant is recommended by the Michelin Guide for a good reason. They serve fresh, high quality seafood. Atmosphere is vibrant with friendly and attentive staff. We started with a few oysters and aguachile. For the mains - sashimi platter (so delicate), sautéed squid and black rice. Everything was so tasty! The most unique dish was the sautéed squid. Had a nice dinner at Campobaja. The vibe is chill and seafood heavy. The Tuna Tostada was very tasty, the Toro tostada while very generous when it came to the tuna belly just felt like an unbalanced dish with the richness of the toro overtaking the dish. The aguachile was just alright, definitely had better. The dish that was the highlight for me was the calamari and garlic with the bread. It's a dish that I've never had before the play on calamari to make it seem like pasta is brilliant and that whole clove of garlic to ooze into the toast was just delightful. read more

I walked in on a Wednesday night for a solo dinner. I was seated immediately. My friend recommended this place and I saw it featured recently. The food came out quickly. Overall the flavors weren't impressive but the portions and seafood quality were good. I got the aguachile de curry verde, tostada de atún, and tostada de pulpo. I didn't really taste the curry in the aguachile, and I prefer the seafood to be firmer after curing. The sourness was also a bit overpowering. The mezcal margarita was smooth. The men waiters were all extremely kind but the one waitress was super rude and ruined our vibes of our entire meal (scoffing, glaring at us, wiping the table while we were there and onto my sunglasses, snapping at us, moving our things). Don't think we've ever experienced this level of service -- my family kept trying to smile and be kind to her in case she was having a bad day, but surprising that she works at a Michelin star place? I had the best meal in CDMX at Campobaja. Loved it to much that I went back on the last day of my trip! Arroz negro (6/5) this may be the best risotto type dish that I've ever had. It was sooooo good. It makes me sad that I won't be able to eat it again until I go back to Mexico City, that's how good it is. Tuna Tostada (5/5) a perfect balance of flavors!! Must try! Oysters (4/5) - oyster itself was so fresh and delicious but the sauce was salty. Shrimp (3.5/5) - nothing special, not bad but not as good as other dishes I tried here. Good experience overall, with a few things to note! I ordered the ceviche negro! it had a unique flavor, though personally I found the radish a bit overpowering and felt there could have been more shrimp, as it was mostly vegetables. I'd rate it around a 6/10 based on my personal taste. As for service, while our server was friendly and seemed busy with other tables (which I totally understand), our table didn't receive much attention, no water refills and limited check-ins. What felt a bit uncomfortable was the way the tip was handled, as a specific amount was suggested rather than left open to our discretion. When we left a certain amount that seemed to reflect on the service we received, he demanded more tip. I believe in tipping based on service, and I just wish the experience had matched the expectation. On a brighter note, my friend loved her dish! The fish was imported from Japan and she described it as buttery and flavorful. The shrimp al pastor taco and salsas were also highlights of the meal, really tasty! We arrived a little after the 15 minute grace period and did some friendly begging to get seated (thank heaven it worked, because the meal was a delight once we got to the table). Just a head's up: if you get trapped in CDMX Fri/Sat traffic, no amount of lobbying over the phone on the way to the restaurant will overcome their hard-and/fast 15 minute rule, so try your best to be on time. It took us almost an hour to traverse the 3 miles between our starting location and the restaurant due to road closures. The staff were sympathetic-ish, but... it's a crazy-busy establishment. If you're late you're rolling the dice for the waitlist. On to the food: it's all seafood for the most part, so if that's not your jam, this isn't the place for you. If you're a mariscos lover, you're in for a real treat. Even though we adore raw fish in general, our favorite items with the cooked ones (which sadly I didn't get photos of). The fried whole fish is simply unmissable - it's so perfectly cooked (lightning hot temp-wise, super crispy skin, meltingly-soft flesh, and incredibly tasty toppings/sauce (garlic and tamarind are prominent)). The grilled octopus and gochujang spot prawns also should be ordered. The raw items are more uneven: the sashimis are presented simply sliced with a shower of salt on top - not particularly flavorful or interesting, even when dipped in the various accompaniments. I would skip those. The black ceviche is their most famous dish, but we found the citrus/sweetness overpowered the flavor of the fish itself. The various clam preparations are intensely fishy - we eat these clams in Baja pretty regularly, and these were a little disappointing by contrast as far as freshness was concerned (that being said, that makes sense, since they have to be shipped to CDMX from the coast). For those who are looking for an English menu/speaker to facilitate your meal: there are none at this restaurant. So be prepared to rely on Google translate. It's worth the effort. read more

Wonderful staff, amazing food, and tasty cocktails! If you're looking for raw food and oysters, this is it! Easy to miss, the signage can be small. You walk through the lobby area after being greeted by the host. They take you upstairs to lots of seating. My friends and I ordered some raw fish dishes, aguachiles, ceviches, oysters, grilled octopus appetizer with gochujang sauce, and this fried snapper dish. Everything was fresh and superb! Came here on a date and the atmosphere was perfect - medium volume with big groups, small groups, and couples dining, and candle lit. Service was amazing as well (please remember to tip as much as you can, because in Mexico it makes up a large portion of their earnings!). Definitely recommend getting the ceviche, and trying their fish and even burrito dishes. Drinks were great too. The overall ambient of the place is comfortable and spacious, better yet on a sunny day! They only serve lunch and kitchen closes at 5:30pm. Since 2017 the menu is daily depending on the catch of the day or season and freshness of the fish. The cuisine can be described as mexican comfort seafood, since they elevate street food with very native ingredients.
