WARNING: YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY!!!
I used this contractor to do a complete landscaping job and experienced nothing but trouble. I had thought that I had done my homework by talking to several other neighbors who had used Gene Campbell to do their landscaping; however, the work he did for me ended up being so bad in many areas that I ended up having to hire another contractor to tear out some of the hardscape (concrete walks, edging and brickwork) at a huge cost to me.
The biggest problem starts with the people he uses to do most of the actual work not being supervised by either Gene or his designer. I had so many hardscape features that were not straight or plumb that even Gene's own designer was frustrated with the workers. So many things had to constantly be corrected at every turn.
In addition, some of the work was subbed out to other workers who were not licensed. I only found this out after one of them told me about his own issues with Gene Campbell and his frustration with how many corners were being cut. As it turned out that work was done so badly that it had to be corrected a few years later, costing me thousands more dollars.
Just check out the "glowing" reviews on the Campbell Landscapes website. Which are ironically identical to the reviews that have been filtered out by Yelp. Just coincidence? Good Yelpers will be able to figure that out for themselves, just check out what I am saying.
My advice is to do your homework and find a Landscape contractor who may even charge a little more money, because this one will try to lowball and then cut corners, or sneak in new charges for his sloppy work. Like I said, you may have different results, my results were terrible. For someone in business this long, where are the good reviews? Well, other than the ones filtered out by Yelp with only one review--- very suspect indeed.
EDITED TO ADD: In response to the owner's comment (see below)-- Yes, Campbell Landscapes did do work on my property, (tens of thousands of dollars worth) I didn't just make that story up. The owner stated that he keeps "detailed records", well, if he is looking for "Mr. C the capo of cuisine" he obviously wouldn't have a record of that name (hint: it's just a screen name for a Yelp account). To suggest that I just made this up is a good example of how my unfortunate experience with Campbell Landscaping went and why I felt compelled to share my experience here with others as a good Yelper does. The idea here is to hopefully help other members find good businesses, and also to help reward those businesses which deserve praise for jobs well done. If you look at all of my reviews I am fair and honest. A bad review is earned just as much as a great review is earned. I tried working with this owner, but at some point you just move on. There would be no reason at this point for me to contact him; he was given every opportunity to correct issues with his work at the time-- eventually you just stop trying to fight to get things made right. What is left after that is my experience which I shared with others. If other people have 4 and 5 star results they are free to share those too. My review reflects my experience. If it had been a positive experience I would have been the first to say so and recommend this business. Again, see my other reviews.
Best Regards,
Mr. C
