While there isn't much to it--a few oak trees shading some wooden picnic tables-- it is a welcome respite from the sun while hiking deep into the park away from the coast and the other maintained campsites. Stop and have a seat for a few minutes, take a drink of water (hope you brought some... 'cause there ain't no vending machine or fountain here... take off your headphones, and just enjoy the sound of... silence. No RV generator, no one playing loud music, no highway noise; just peace and quiet. The hike itself to get here can range from moderate to strenuous, depending on how you got here. Chances are you left No Name Ridge trail and took the Ticketron path to get to Deer Canyon. Co ti ur up the trail a bit to either take the long loop tonthe fenceline or cut back towards the ocean on Rattlesnake trail-- which in my opinion, is the pretties part of the hike. Speaking of rattlesnakes, there are a few up here on the hunt in the warmer months, so watch your step. More likely, you'll enjoy songbirds, small mammals like rabbits and squirrels during daybreak and sunset, and an escort of a few bugs around your head. Regardless, you have my respect for getting out into nature and putting down your tiny touch screen :)

This was the first spot I went camping with my wife and friends and we loved it. The bathrooms and showers were very clean, the lots were huge! The site is sandwiched between the beach and a bike trail which is really awesome! The campsite loops around which was cool because people with children are able to let their kids ride around on scooters or bikes! There were a few sites that were flooded due to recent rain but the site overall was awesome and walking distance to the beach. I strongly recommend camping at this location.

Although I didn't this time around walk to the beach you must if the weather permits. If it's not too hot or too cold. It's a short walk maybe a mile. It's not paved and in some parts it is narrow. It's along side the road but a barrier does separate you from the road. But the beach is beautiful. My campsite on this visit was in the first grouping. I was at campsite 38 which had a water spigot and electrical hookup. Also at the site is a fire ring and wooden picnic table. It had a good size dirt area for a couple of tents. During this visit this time of the year were plenty of squirrels running around. Now I have heard stories of car cables being chewed up at other campgrounds so there could be that possibility here too. When we went for a walk, we noticed a blinking device under someone's truck. Not sure if that was to deter critters. So the dirt area at the site is not level in some spots and there are squirrel holes as well. Wood is available at check in for $10 a bundle. Occasionally the rangers will drive by checking if anyone needs to purchase wood. You have privacy on both sides with the help of some shrubs. Behind the site 38 it is open, but shrubs from other sites help with blocking their site. Since I had privacy on the sides I chose to set up my hammock on one side. The restrooms/showers are just about 7 sites away. Restrooms are pretty clean and showers. Showers are coin operated and they do have a coin machine at one side of the building. I did see the staff there in the mornings cleaning the restrooms. Garbage pick up could be daily at 8 or 9 am. We were there a couple of days when they did pick ups. Staff at the time of my check-in didn't leave a good impression. But I heard the person ahead was not so nice. You will hear traffic noise from the freeway and occasionally artillery training from Camp Pendleton. Views are nice from the sites on the outside of the circle. i would definitely camp here again.

My kids stayed behind and played in the water and in the sand for hours. Now everyone wants to go back, even though it's a good four hours away for us. We most definitely will. The beach is clean, the shoreline is long, and the parking lot is convenient (but to be fair, we went on a Friday... I'm sure the weekends can get busy). No one had to use the bathrooms while we were there, so I can't speak to those.

I personally believe Karen could have a better approach by not having a Nasty ATTITUDE at bringing up check out time to customers that being in revenue to city of HB. We're not children and we do understand rules and guideline. I've been called on a paid reservation- with people over staying and causing us to have a later check in. We don't make a big deal about it. We understand. Mind you park has several vacancy opening, Karen called me back to ask me if I wanted to re- book with her. I believe this is also not part of HB guidelines to book with a personal of HB. ( from what I was told in past )

Just came back from El Potrero for our Girl Scout camporee. Ugh…read more LOCATION: Far, far away! This is private property and heavily guarded/monitored for the safety of the campers (duh). The camp is located waaaaaay off the beaten path, down a private treacherous dirt road. Once you're there - it's gorgeous! Oak trees shade the camp site and provide excellent canopy coverage. There is plenty of space to spread out and pinic tables and antique dutch ovens at each camp site. Bathrooms are near or far depending on where you set up camp. There are 600 acres on this property, mostly beautiful meadows and scenic vistas. CAMPING: Reservation tent camping only. Reservations must be made thru your local Girl Scout council... otherwise the main gate to the property will be locked. AMENITIES: Fresh, cold running water at each campsite. Bathrooms. Picnic tables and private, cold water showers. There are outdoor structures for holding open air events or having a small meeting. Propane cooking only - charcoal use given on an individual, weather-permitting basis by the on site Ranger Mark. There is a sheltered fire pit available for campfire use. *Bring your own food* BUGS: They run amok. None of our spray on pesticides worked! Dangit. Crane flies are EVERYWHERE! (they even snuck inside our cars and came home with us). Crane flies look like mosquitos so wear your running shoes. Spiders constantly freefall from the trees - watch what you're putting into your mouth. Pincher bugs and the catepillars were annoying as well. Red ants are running this joint and even though they don't bite - they're scary as all get out because they're bigger than me! CELL PHONE SERVICE: At the time of this posting, AT&T, TMobile, Sprint/Nextel, Boost, Verizon, Metro PCS and any other crap carrier you might have, DID NOT WORK at this campsite. Sorry. RANGER MARK: He's a hottie. And very knowledgeable about the area. He gives hikes daily and lives on site. *BTW, there are a few other residences tucked away on site so hooting and hollering is ill advised after 22:30. MISC: It is extremely dry and dusty out here. I think it would be better to camp down the mountain at Lake Elsinore. SUMMARY: Loved our camp activities and enjoyed getting away from the world but too many bugs ruined my fun. MY ADVICE: Prepare for the worst and hope for the best... this place is 100% rustic living.

I read about The Holiday's on Trip Advisr and was pleased to find mid-week openings the next week. I paid for one night in advance, but after the fun my granddaughter had that first day, I paid for another night and am glad to have done so. The turquoise and white trailer, "The Drifter" is adorable, as are all four units. Andy, the owner/ manager is friendly, easy to reach by phone, and stops by each day to provide for the needs of his current renters, and to prep for the next to arrive. With an included fridge, freezer, 3 burner stove, plates, cups, mugs, utensils, bbq utensils, sink with running water, heat, ample sleeping for 4, bath towels, beach towels, USB ports, board games, cards, and a bluetooth sound system, the trailer offers plenty of convenience for its diminuative size. For a small extra charge a generator provides AC, microwave and electricity. Each trailer gas picnic table, charcoal bbq, and a firepit... though we joined other campers at the communal firepit and enjoyed making new friends. The Holiday's Community has a shared storage shed filled with complimentary games (Jenga, Cornhole, Horseshoes, oversized Checkers, Bocce Ball, etc.) beach supplies (umbrellas, boogie boards, noodles). The beach is gorgeous... there are two paths to access the beach, one is quite steep and the hike back up is tough. The other path nearest to the Visitor Center is less steep. All in all, big props to The Holiday's! I will definitely be returning.

There were only 2 working bathrooms at the time with all those people in the campsite. Spent about 200$/night which I should have just booked a hotel room. Was disappointed in this place we left a day earlier than planned. I don't recommend this place at all. Don't waste your money.
