The last set of boots I bought from The Pro ski and Ride was professionally fitted by Kieth more years ago than I like to admit. I realized that the time was now to purchase probably my last set of boots as I am 75 years old skier. Yesterday, I made an appointment to purchase and fit new boots, and Mary helped me choose the boot that was right for me. She guided me through all my options and we decided on Dalbello's with a wrap around lining. She took as much time as she needed to make sure the boots were perfect for my feet. After she custom fit the boot, I have to say they are the most comfortable boot I have ever owned. She was trained by Kieth and he would be so proud of her skills. Need new ski boots? My closet isn't filled to the brim with L.L.Bean- but I do like their casual look of their clothes. The few pieces I've purchased throughout the years are neutral enough I can easily add on to my own personal style. Plus L.L. doesn't mess around with their fabric. The clothes are crisp- especially the women's button downs and women's blazers that have clean lines and are perfectly tailored - but carefree where I can funktify the look. When we've vacationed in the Catskills throughout the seasons and have accidentally forgotten to pack either my shorts, winter gloves, rain boots or anything else, Kenco, slightly off Rt 28 in Kingston, has been the place to come to for those. Kenco is a privately-owned and independent company staying true to their number one priority-provide customers with the highest quality products- that can handle any weather condition up here in the Catskills. The store is massive with women's clothing on one side, men's on another- then their other departments follow. And yes, prices are steep- but these folks carefully select their products and only want to sell reliable gear/clothing that will last for years to come. My husband especially loves their 100% thick cotton, long sleeve pull-on shirts he uses when it's frigid- and he's had them for a while now and still look good as when I first purchased them. Now that we own a home in the Catskills, this is where we come for clothes that are more neutral- with an almost minimalist feel. I came in to drop off my snowboard for repair and after looking it over the next day, they told me the honest truth that it was a bit too of a complex repair for them to trust that it was stick long term. They suggested for the price it would cost to make it perfect, given the year of the board (2017), I'd be better off getting a new board and pocketing the difference. I appreciated how up front they were and headed their advice! I'll be running the board through it's final paces this season and getting a new one come spring. Even beyond repairs, this shop has it all. From kayaks to climbing gear, skis to paddle boards, they've got everything you need to enjoy the outdoors for all four seasons.

Mountain Tops makes it too easy! My first experience with them was last year. My boyfriend and I booked a kayaking tour to Bannerman's Island, which included an on-island tour. Neither of us had ever kayaked, but after a quick tutorial we were on our way, with their guides nearby, of course. The guides are great (well, they were great that day) and they have comparable prices. Now that we know what to do, we go straight to the waterfront and rent out kayaks for the day so that we could paddle the river and pull up on random little shores to explore. It's an affordable and easily accessible activity. Tours need to be booked online or at the actual store location on Main Street. Kayak rentals can be done at the waterfront, depending on availability. And yes, you can use your card at the waterfront! I do wish they had later hours. Imagine kayaking in a sunset...oh!

Speaking of warm, it was FREEZING when we went, snow on the ground, the whole 9. No problem for us because Orvis lights fire pits in winter right by your individual shooting sites! The clay shooting itself is very fun and challenging. Our instructor Paula gave us great tips on hitting the target, gun safety and usage. She was an outstanding teacher! We absolutely loved this entire experience and plan to go back once per season.

I still have the great Woolrich jacket (red plaid) I purchased here over a decade ago and have worn constantly--and last weekend, I got a cool hat to match it.
