Great place to come for rentals on climbing equipment. I came here to rent two big crash pads for $20 a piece. They were in good shape. In addition, this place also sells used equipment for ski, climbing, and other outdoor activities. In addition, it has bookshelves with multiple guides as to which places are good to go for certain events like bouldering, top roping, lead climbing, skiing, etc.

These people Emma and Matt helped me. It was very hard choosing hiking boots and climbing shoes but they were spot on and very helpful and patient with me. Thanks a ton you guys Also they take credit and debit cards over phone if Someone else is paying far away or something, it's very very useful. So thanks again.

Great Shop and Staff, if you are climbing or hiking in the area you should visit. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Keep the local shops in business. If you are new to climbing, buy your shoes here, not on the internet. Knowledgeable help is important. You will be much happier. Paragon, REI & EMS generally do not have knowledgeable staff regarding climbing. The Internet stores are not going to tell you how to get to the new climbing area that does not have a guidebook or fit your shoes properly.

Amazing selection of guidebooks along with tons of gear. They seem to have many regular and large Organic crashpads as rentals...

They not only go out of their way to accommodate changing appointments but they are always very professional, helpful and friendly. I stopped by there in late May and fell in love with a used Can Am. Spent a couple of hours chatting about all the changes from larger engine to safety features... so I went home to mull things over and two days later I called them and asked if they'd hold it till Thursday & I'd drop off a deposit. They agreed as Karen said she had a hunch I'd be back. Tom was instrumental in obtaining an extended warranty for me as I am new to Can Am converting from two wheels to three. The Service Dept is top notch too. I've been there twice since June for odds & ends such as hooking up a GPS cradle and adjust the clutch for me and never disappointed. Travis listens to my concerns and works his magic and throughly checks everything & makes adjustments if needed.

But if you haven't experienced those outdoor adventures, Kenco is way more than that. When we've vacationed in the Catskills throughout the seasons and have accidentally forgotten to pack either my shorts, winter gloves, rain boots or anything else, Kenco, slightly off Rt 28 in Kingston, has been the place to come to for those. Kenco is a privately-owned and independent company staying true to their number one priority-provide customers with the highest quality products- that can handle any weather condition up here in the Catskills. The store is massive with women's clothing on one side, men's on another- then their other departments follow. And yes, prices are steep- but these folks carefully select their products and only want to sell reliable gear/clothing that will last for years to come. My husband especially loves their 100% thick cotton, long sleeve pull-on shirts he uses when it's frigid- and he's had them for a while now and still look good as when I first purchased them. Now that we own a home in the Catskills, this is where we come for clothes that are more neutral- with an almost minimalist feel. But this is also the place to make all your outdoor dreams come true. .

This is an actual sole proprietorship in a workd of chain stores, so there's quirky parts to it. But I always find something really cool here and have really interesting conversations with the owner Steven. It feels really good to go into a store, which is actually curated by somebody who's had a lifetime of running retail, so it's not all pre-programmed generic, but filled with interesting things in every little corner.

Hi Steven P or Management,…read more The individual working at the store today is unbelievably rude - no sense of customer service - walked in never looked up from his cellphone to acknowledge anyone. I was looking at a sweater didn't see my size - I continued to carry on in the store because I genuinely love it. Today the back room was covered in open boxes making it very difficult to shop regardless I found a stack of the sweaters (the one I was looking for). The guy working proceeded to yell at me stating they were all out. I said I'm looking for the grey sweater in a large - to which he replied "we don't have grey". I pointed at the stack and I know I'm not color blind but maybe he is, so I said that's grey. He pulled the sweater out and throws it at me! Yes throws it! He was mad he had to get off his seat, his phone and actually work. I put everything down my family and I walked out! Individual working on Thursday 7/27! As a business owner I would like to know how my employees are interacting with customers. This unfortunate situation just pushed me out, I'll take my business somewhere else

I am originally from CA but I currently live on Long Island for school. I was happy to come across this company which offers guided day trips. We were fortunate to have Dan as our guide for the day! We started off by meeting at their location in Gardiner, NY. We were fitted with boots and crampons before checking to make sure we had enough equipment and gear for the day. We packed based on the gear list that they have on their website to make sure we would be prepared. I would recommend bringing a pair of pant gaiters because the crampons can catch on your pants and may tear. Dan made sure to ask us about our skill level and goals for the day before deciding which location he would take us. Our goal for the day was to maybe, eventually, be able to ice climb on our own! We drove separately to Stony Clove. Being from CA, I haven't tried very many winter outdoor adventures. Dan taught to my level and explained the best ways to walk in crampons before starting up the trail. Once we decided on which route we would be climbing for the day, we discussed the objective and subjective hazards before labeling our "safety areas" which were out of harms way of any of the icicles that could possibly fall. We hiked up to the top and set up the anchor. Dan explained what he was doing and how he was doing it. It made me feel safe seeing how much thought was going into our anchor. After being lowered down, Dan joined us to explain the basics of ice climbing with the ice axes. I learned about belaying with the grigri. We were both able to get in a good amount of climbs before our arms and legs were feeling like jello. This sport took a lot of me and it was such a fun challenge! I would recommend this company and Dan as a guide for anyone looking for a challenge! Definitely hope to be back on the ice soon!

I wish I could afford to support smaller stores like this, but I only have so much money to spend on gear. The rest is spent on play! I will keep coming back to Mountain Tops for their kayak rentals. Living in NYC, I do have to make the trek upstate for my outdoor activities. I hike and camp in the Hudson highlands and now kayaking will be added to the list as a regular activities. Mountain Tops makes it too easy! My first experience with them was last year. My boyfriend and I booked a kayaking tour to Bannerman's Island, which included an on-island tour. Neither of us had ever kayaked, but after a quick tutorial we were on our way, with their guides nearby, of course. The guides are great (well, they were great that day) and they have comparable prices. Now that we know what to do, we go straight to the waterfront and rent out kayaks for the day so that we could paddle the river and pull up on random little shores to explore. It's an affordable and easily accessible activity. Tours need to be booked online or at the actual store location on Main Street. Kayak rentals can be done at the waterfront, depending on availability. And yes, you can use your card at the waterfront! I do wish they had later hours. Imagine kayaking in a sunset...oh!
