Emailed the store about doing a return from the vendor, received an email 2 days later that confirmed I could. Drove an extra 30 minutes to get here and was told, without any reason, that I couldn't do the return. Showed them the email and they were confused. Not a fan of this store. read more

I recently purchased work boots from this place. The boots cost me $145. I reached out to them to return them because they were so bad I couldn't wear them. When I called I talked to the associate and manager who told me to return them and I would receive a refund, all I needed to do was to pay for return shipping. I paid the shipping and and sent them out. When received, a different manager told me they could not refund them and could only send back. I'm now out of $145 for the boots and $30 shipping cost. The manager at the gun section had no interest or concern about my situation. He recommended bear spray to handle home invasion which could kill my cats and make me ill. He accused me of saying I would shoot through my door at an unknown person which is completely ridiculous, something I would never say or do. Terrible service as I just had my home invaded. Do not sell your used guns here!!! They are rude and offer an unfairly low price. I just was in there to sell two long guns. My so called "customer service representative" says to another employee, " Look at the piece of shit he wants to sell." WTF??? Then, he offered me a total of $150. THERE ARE BETTER STORES INTERESTED IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. AVOID THIS ONE. I stopped in to do some last minute Christmas shopping. My son in law asked for socks for Christmas. The store was running a "BUY 2 Get 1 FREE". They had 5 of the size I wanted $35.00. I wound up selecting some women's socks at $24. A very polite employee asked if I needed any help. I asked him how the sale worked because there were different prices and most had no price. He and I went through the socks and the discounts due. I questioned it at checkout, because I didn't see the $35 discounted socks for free. The sporting goods mgr was at the register and told me the discount does not show up on my screen but she could see it on her screen. My bill was significantly higher ($561+) than I expected. When I got home and checked it, I found I that I didn't receive the discounts as explained to me before my purchase. Over the last year I have spent a few thousand dollars in the store. After speaking w the mgr over the phone, I can't return the merchandise because of misrepresentation. I can only exchange for a store credit. And only for 30 days at that. Buyer Beware. They are dishonest and have zero concern for keeping or satisfying their customers. There are so many better stores around, they just happen to be next to the grocery store. I will NEVER buy anything there again. And I assume the Thruway liquor store is probably theirs also, so they are out as well. Purchased a pair of shoes two nights ago. Store was closing in fifteen minutes. Neglected to see your return policy sign. Got home and put them on.... Felt too tight after just a few minutes. Went to return tonight and was denied my money back. Policy is a store credit or exchange. Asked if their was a size larger.... They did not have. Forced then to buy something I did not intend to get. I will not be purchasing from your store again. I can get the same products from Amazon and they are returnable if they don't fit. I drove 45 minutes to get to the store upon arrival my family needed to use the bathroom and we were told to go to Hannaford! That was the first strike. I felt very off put but my kids and I needed to get warm winter clothing. We re-entered this time to shop after using the grocery store bathroom two doors over and 30 degrees walking. I was stopped because I had my small dog with me. They rudely told me NO dogs allowed. My dog is a small French Bulldog who is extremely well behaved. I picked her up and left. My husband shopped alone after this. I was over the Thruway's POOR hospitality! He bought an overpriced Columbia coat that they refused to match a price on for himself and grabbed two flannels that the sign indicated they were $9.99. The lady at the counter told him "No they were in the wrong spot, someone is going to move them". The sign clearly stated the Country brand flannel and she still did not make good for the sale price. This lady was not friendly and shouldn't be working with customers. The right thing would of been to honor the proper price that was advertised! She also turned two other shoppers away from that sale. I will not spend another $1 bill in this store as I feel they take advantage by price gouging and every employee looks at you like you are trying to steal something. It's unfortunate that small business are losing business to online shopping, but I'll shop online from now on. If I give this place 0 stars I would. My husband and I came in the store and split up like we usually do. He goes to the men's section and I was in the women's section. One of the store associates, a guy with brown shaggy/ wavy short hair, probably around 5'7 -5'9, greets me and I say hello back. I'm bored walking around the store, stopping to look at some clothes here and there, not really finding anything I want. This guy begins to FOLLOW ME around the store. He followed myself and my husband all the way to the cash register area. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a store. Just staring at me and following me every where I went. Purchased a Sig Sauer handgun in mid June from thruway sporting goods. The price was $609. After waiting for purchase to be approved from Ulster County Sheriff I retuned to store to pick up handgun on July 23rd. The same handgun was now on sale for $549. I asked for the sale price. I asked for a store credit. The new sale price should have been honored. That would have had me spend more money at the store. I was denied any type of refund or store credit. Not sure where the claims to rudeness come from. I walk in the door and every single employee says hi. I like that, they acknowledge I am a human. Quite friendly. I have had great conversations with employees in the hunting/fishing section. In fact, I have hung out there a bit just talking with the employees... I will raise my rating to great when I have bought some items and get the experience on the buying end. Right now there is little ammo and the gun stock is depleted, but I will be checking in as the situation here in early 2021 loosens up a bit. read more

I simply love this store! I'm an avid outdoorsman (huntin,fishing,camping,hiking,etc...) and this place literally has it all. The bottom floor is all apparel, camping, and footwear. Upstairs is where my true treasure lies - a 1/4 mile long pistol showcase with rifles and shotguns just as plentiful behind the counter. Ok maybe not a 1/4 mile, but its pretty big. The bathroom is on the 1st floor and you must request to use the key. Its very clean. The staff downstairs is always welcoming and very eager to help you with any questions you have. Upstairs, oh my goodness upstairs, the staff is plentiful and full of it. Knowledge that is... I constantly have questions in the fishing department and constantly have knowledgable people giving me direction. The gun department is outstanding. Ive never felt intimidated or dumb talking to these guys (and lady!) as they are all down to Earth people and genuinely just want to help. I've handled many guns in there without making a purchase, and they always treat me the same - great! My favorite person to deal with is Ms. Penny - This lady really knows her stuff! And I must mention they are NEVER short on ammo or acessories. Did I mention they also have archery equipment??? Ok you get the point - Im impressed. Even more so by being there tonight - Ladies Night! Discounts! Theres always something going on here and its located next to a liquor store and Hannaford. One stop shopping!!! I drove a good distance to the store to order a specific expensive firearm for which the manufacturer listed Thruway Sporting Goods as their Highest Level dealer. I knew it might take months for them to receive it, however, I was willing to pay up front. The young sales kid in the second floor firearms department was inarticulate and literally had marbles in his mouth. I am bilingual and could not understand anything he was saying in English. I watched as he consulted with the manager who was in a back room only to return and say they could not take my order! On the way out of the store on the first floor I stopped to speak with three employees and requested to speak with a manager. One woman said she was a manager and called the gun department manager and then told me they do not take "Special Orders"! They would have to be giving something away of significance for free for me to ever set foot in this store again. I go here primarily for the fly fishing supplies, and I almost always find what I need. You wouldn't expect a store that sells shoelaces to have the selection of materials they do, which is always pleasant. You find a similar quality throughout the store. This is also my first stop for higher end and work clothes. I bought my Carhartt bibs here as well as several pairs of pants and boots. I'm looking to buy a shotgun in the near future as well. With brands ranging from Patagonia, Red Wing; Redington to Winchester, if you want something chances are they have it. read more

After purchasing a Glock they said they could not give me the law enforcement magazine and also after telling me they could do the night site on the gun they told me to do it myself. 4 star only for prices. 5 star for service, selection and expertise. Unfortunately I do not live in Walden anymore, or reside in NY for that matter. If I did, this is where I'd buy my guns and save pennies for a Filson Macintosh. The updated store (RIP Thruway Market) is much bigger with a greater selection, but still has all the hunting/fishing upstairs that made this a favorite for decades. Simply the best, but not inexpensive (basically MSRP) - they do have great sales at the end of season! read more

I have read several reviews and agree it seems that there is inconsistency with employees and how customers are treated. I think they need to focus on developing millennial help as they tend to have the least experience with people vs electronics. Today it lost them a sale and I presume from reading other posts, it has in the past and will do so until they become more consistent. I buy a lot of expensive toys and had made my mind up to shop more locally even if it cost a few more bucks. That $ will not be spent here even though mgt kindly refunded my deposit for a layaway toy after being treated rudely by a petulant young lady in the firearms department. I'm conflicted about this place. I've been coming here since I was in my early 20's. As a gear hound I love coming here. Especially since it entails driving through the quaint town of Walden. I've driven through snow storms to get here because of cabin fever all the way from NYC. They're currently remodeling the entire mall. It looks nicer but it's really the end of an era. I love coming here for the selection of great brands like Arborwear sweaters or Kinco gloves or everything Carhartt. The service and friendliness downstairs is superb. So is their service and selection in their fishing dept. upstairs. Now as we move upstairs the atmosphere darkens dramatically as pertaining to gun counter employees. It is indeed decently stocked with middle of the road guns, knives, hunting/shooting supplies and all sort of goodies we outdoors gun nuts types enjoy. However the been there done that know it all types can really offend quickly. They're very condescending! You literally have to hold your nose to buy a gun at the gun counter because their attitude stinks. Try at all costs to avoid the older guys. There is one youngish tallish feller with glasses who is tolerable. Their prices are rarely a deal so I don't understand the mantle of contempt they so readily don. So my 3 stars ratings is only for the clothing and fishing sections. The insufferable asses upstairs have lost their employers untold thousands from me alone. read more

We walked towards the back where a young lady met up with me and asked if she could help. I told her what we needed and she immediately knew what we were looking for.
