Best fish and chips on the lower North Shore,. This is an old school fish and chip shop run by a guy (his name is Jim) who has been in the business for 30+ years, who does it because he enjoys it. I know because I've chatted to him a few times I've been there.
Tellingly, the chips are real, hand cut potatoes, not the frozen, reconstituted junk you get in most places. He also buys and fillets his own fish. His specials are fantastic value. Today I got snapper and chips for $10 and the snapper was the best fish I've had in any restaurant anywhere for a long time. Fresh, tasty, lovely texture, crispy batter, not too thick.
His grilled fish, which he does for no extra charge, unlike many fish shops, is often even better.
