My son and I are both happy with the services provided by Dr. McCalmont. It took time, but we've been able to get the refunds we were due.

Professional and articulate, she was able to explain her diagnosis to me (a surprisingly rare quality with doctors these days).

We saw Dr. McCalmont once and decided that we would never see her again. We found her to be rude and uncaring.

There's a reason this place has such high reviews. Everyone here is experienced, professional, and…read morethey go the extra mile. I've had filler once, Botox once, and two RF microneedling sessions and it's like the technicians are OCD. Three full passes, every patch of skin is covered, and the results are the best I've had. They give you time to numb, and they do a great job distracting you from the discomfort if you do decide to go for a more intense setting. Also, really helpful with the GLP, clear labeling on each syringe, and easy FaceTime with the doctor. I've never had to wait past an appointment time and there's always parking. Really grateful I found this spot. Note: Sheila did the rf microneedling if you end up scheduling that service. I normally have some white spots but after the service with her my entire face is covered and it shows in the results.

I booked a consultation with Dr. Shay with the intent to purchase a skin treatment package since…read morethe $200 consultation fee can go towards the treatments. The interior of the medspa is clean, minimal, and thoughtfully designed. The consultation was pretty short and confirmed what treatment I was looking for. I felt uncomfortable about the various treatment and product recommendations because I didn't feel like I had a say in what I wanted to opt in or out of. Dr. Shay informed me that a package of 5 was recommended (since packages are usually at a discount vs individual) and that it is typically $950/session for the face, but that she would honor the 5-package sessions to use for my arms as well. When I was walked back up to the front desk, I was quoted a different (higher) price for the package. I wish there was more communication between the staff because I definitely felt cheated. I was ready to purchase the package of 5 as quoted by Dr. Shay, but after hearing the discrepancies I felt hesitant to commit to Kintsu for so many sessions and opted to purchase just a single session which I used the next day instead. Additionally, a skincare product box set was brought up to the front as if I was going to purchase it when in fact I never agreed to it. Thankfully the ladies respected my decision and didn't try to push the product, although I did feel like I was being judged in the moment. I was also recommended a facial which I was not interested in and again felt like I was cornered into purchasing. The day of my treatment went much better, but could still use some improvements. It would've also been nice to have a clock in the room where the prep was done. I was sitting in there for what felt like ages and didn't want to move around too much reaching for my phone. The treatment itself felt pretty straightforward and the nurse had a calm demeanor which was appreciated. I couldn't remember what the aftercare instructions were, so a post-treatment care sheet would've been helpful. The nurse also said she would give me an ice pack afterwards to help sooth my skin, but I wasn't given one and just went up to the front to pay - oh well, no biggie but sometimes the details are what makes the clients feel appreciated and coming back. Overall, I wouldn't be opposed to coming back here if I wanted the convenience of going somewhere close by. The treatment itself was fine, but just be aware that products and services may be pushed on you and to just be firm about what your focus is.

Found Dr. Fang's office through my network's provider search, but was a bit hesitant due to some of the negative Yelp reviews. Dr. Fang's office however was very close to where I live. And located right outside El Cerrito Plaza, just past JoAnn's, free parking is readily available in the plaza, and I just had to walk over. As it turned out, my concern was baseless, as Dr Fang was not only extremely kind, but listened and addressed all of my concerns, made recommendations and gave treatment options that I felt comfortable with, and left me feeling much more educated about my body in general. In fact, far more than my previous dermatologist, or any of my prior primary care physicians ever did, combined, regarding the same issues. So ecstatic that I was able to find such a great dermatologist nearby. And one whom I plan to continue seeing for as long as I live here!

She is a wonderful and knowledgable doctor. She is always helpful and I really appreciate her calm bedside manner. She has even treated my son with patience, care and understanding of his skin issues. When I came in to the office for my appointment, there was a man behind the desk (whom I've never seen before) announcing loudly for all to hear that he is the "office manager" and spoke to the other receptionists and other patients, including elderly patients with a very rude and condescending tone! Then I called the office a month later regarding my insurance and my routine appointment. I had a question regarding treatment and I recognized the same voice that I heard when I came in for my appointment. He unfortunately was the same rude and condescending person and then he became accusatory with me over the phone. He was saying that I was asking him to change my chart, commit fraud and that I would cause my doctors' license to be revoked. AND she wouldn't be able to practice medicine! He said it again even more aggressively than the first time. WHAT?! Who says that?! Umm... I had a question about my treatment and the description of the code claims according to my visit. Including my co-pay there was an expensive $195 add-on to my invoice by the office and I didn't know what it meant. I was told to call the office for clarification by my provider and the billing department of Golden State Dermatology. I didn't think a basic conversation would turn into a hostile one, causing me to feel upset for asking legitimate questions, which is part of his job, being an "office manager." I mentioned I would try and reach out to the doctor, when he became even more defensive. I have never in my life, been spoken to in that manner by a professional doctor's office. I was in tears when I called the billing department for the third time. After almost 2 hours of dealing with this mess, they were really helpful, listened and answered all of my questions. Thank goodness! I'm having serious thoughts of moving on to a new doctor. I don't want to engage with an "office manager" that treats his fellow employees with self-entitlement and disrespecting patients by belittling them publicly or by phone.

For COVID safety purposes, masks are required and hand sanitizer is provided. Their facility is small but tidy and neat. I went in to check on my psoriasis and suspected sebderm. My first total visit was probably 45 mins, 40 mins being in the waiting room. I was seen late and still rushed out. Dr. Fang's inspection felt blunt and cursory; she was quick to dismiss everything as eczema (or even saying "I don't see anything"), not looking at the lengthy questionnaire that the front desk gave me. Initially I was prescribed 4 medications, but after expressing concerns incl. interactions with psoriasis, we decided not to move forward with 2. I asked the front desk if they could print me an AVS to track my medications, which they responded would be on my patient portal instead. It wasn't :-| Between my visits, I applied medication as noted and saw temporary results. With the meds, I felt like we didn't address the root issue, only barely treated some symptoms. While we transitioned between seasons, I also changed my diet and lifestyle-- contributing towards my skin. I still saw the issues flare up from time to time. My 6-week followup saw no delays (during workday) but was essentially pointless. The medical assistant who escorted me into the room asked me about medications that Dr. Fang did not prescribe me and didn't have my previous skin condition on file. I let the Dr. know that the medications were used on an as-needed basis and cut the visit short. If they couldn't even track my medications, I don't feel confident in their ability in tracking my care progress. I will say that their admin staff are friendly and quick to resolve any concerns. I think the issue is more so on record keeping and data management. Their EHR is Healow, which is clunky enough. - Lengthy set-up process - Little to no details available on the website about your appointment - Can't cancel online, only through phone - Obnoxious UI/not mobile-friendly - No AVS provided NOTE: Located on the first floor in the complex, after a right turn in the hallway adjacent to the staircase

Prices are sky high; my five minute visit costs $281.00! There is not even the pretense of caring about patients; this practice is all about maximizing profits. Need a follow up visit? That will take months to book (or they'll simply state that "no appointments are available") and there will be a significant charge -- even if their original treatment was unsuccessful or incomplete, and required a follow up. Front desk staff are simply clerks, and seem totally indifferent to patients' questions or concerns. To sum up, as a health care provider this group is an abject failure. It represents the very worst in corporate medicine, and does its patients a huge disservice. Finding an independent dermatologist, one whose practice has not been purchased by this group, is well worth the effort.
