They also offered catfish, fried chicken, good sweet cornbread, Koolaid and soda. Desserts were down home also, offering banana pudding, peach cobbler, and cakes. I definitely enjoyed my short ribs, cabbage, collard greens and cornbread. Definitely good eats! Service was fast and the ambiance was nice and relaxing. They have a great music playlist. I really enjoyed. Great space for a group or event. They also cater. Senior specials are also available with the exception of a few menu items.

I visited for lunch on a weekday where they have daily specials which save a few dollars off of the regular price. Upon reaching the steam table their digital display still had the previous days entrees, so I had to wait to get up to the counter to see the selection for the day which consists of 6-7 entrees. With the regular meals, you receive an entree, 2 sides, rice and cornbread. They offer tea, Pepsi products and for alcohol, it's beer, wine and daiquiris. They have loud r&b music playing in the background. I chose the "red" meatloaf (they have brown or red sauce), collards and Mac n cheese. Keep in mind they serve your food and drinks in to go packaging, regardless of whether you dine in, or get it to go. Food portions are large too. The meatloaf portion I received was large, delicious and juicy. The slice was around 2 inches thick. The mac n cheese was good, and actually ended up being my favorite item. The collards are pretty typical with a lot of vinegar and cooked for a long time. Below the meatloaf was a base of white rice and brown gravy which is basically a filler. You receive 2 cornbread muffins, which I don't really eat but I ate a couple bites and they are pretty sweet. The owner/manager was friendly and greeted me while in line, stopped by my table to check on me, and even said goodbye as I was leaving.

We try to support local Kingwood are restaurants and hadn't been to Union Kitchen in quite a while. We arrived and asked for a table for 6, the dining room was busy so they said it would be a few minutes. Then 3 more of our group we hadn't expected arrived and the hostess quickly let the servers know to make our table larger. We only had to wait 8 or 9 minutes and were seated in the side dining room which was great as it was not crowded so it was easy to talk without a lot of ambient noise from the more crowded main room. I believe one of the assistant managers began taking drink orders as our designated server was finishing up some tables nearby. She had a great sense of humor and quickly went to get our drinks. FYI, they have both an All Day menu and a lunch special one which we hadn't seen before a their website so that is an option and is a bit less expensive with smaller servings than the All Day one. As it was April 15, they had a special small Tax Day menu where everything was prices at $4.15! What a cute idea! We all ordered our lunches and soon we were enjoying what was brought out. I had the special lentil soup and the blackened salmon tacos, my wife had the 1/2 lb classic burger and the house made potato chips. Everything was excellent. Glad we stopped by for our group lunch.

We saw it online and loved the vast menu selection so we thought we'd give it a try. From the exterior, it doesn't look like much almost looks like you could be walking into a craft store or a boot barn cause it's just in a shopping mall strip center. But once you enter inside, the dark wood, the wine bottles, the lighting all creates a very nice ambience of an upscale restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised. We were just grabbing a bite to eat before a movie and this place turned out to be much nicer than me. I previously anticipated. We decided to order off of the Happy Hour menu so that we could try several things. We got the queso dip of course...because, when in Texas...We also got the crabcakes and a cheeseburger with truffle fries. They had some great drink specials, but we got ice tea instead. That was plenty of food for two of us to share. Out of the three items that we ordered off the Happy Hour menu, I would say the cheesburger was the best! The bun was small enough to not be overwhelming and the meat had a very nice barbecue taste. The crabcakes were OK as was the queso. Our waiter gave excellent service! Can't remember his name, but he was tall and I believe had dirty blonde hair. The entire meal was super yummy with excellent service and convenient. Couldn't ask for more. We definitely recommend this place. We wanted to get beignets for dessert, but we were too full to order anything else. Oh and if you go at Happy Hour, even if you're not drinking, everything on the Happy Hour menu is 50% off. Check it out!

Cabbage was good--greens very spicy! Gave to my sister who rated 9 out of 10 would recommend. Cornbread was like hard day old bread and went into the trash! Bbq platter: BIL loved his plate! Said potato salad was meh but all else good! Hotlinks, ribs, and beans! Sister got fried chicken and added mac&cheese along with yams! Chicken was fresh but not seasoned much! Mac&cheese good for diner menu option, and yams were okay she said! Greasy spoon Mac is better IMO but Granny's oxtails the best I've had here in H-town! Although spicy/hot food is not my favorite I did enjoy them If the cornbread were softer & sweeter I think the rating would be 4! Would I go back? Hmm! Yea for the tails of course! I saw they have catfish & black eyed peas so I may try those next time as well! Overall 3.5 but can't do half stars By default I left it at 4

Anyway, I was able to get past the communication barrier in order a two piece fish two piece shrimp meal with two sides with one side being the hush puppies and the other is fries. The fish seemed like it was seasoned pretty good. I was only able to taste a piece of it and also the shrimp and of course I did taste the fries. They were OK, but not as good as five guys when the cashier offered condiments. I noticed that he only gave one half of a container of tartar sauce . That's not good because how come I'm getting a full container of hot sauce, but not a full container of tartar sauce, make it make sense. They did give me some plasticware which I'm not using with this meal. Last but not least I tried the strawberry banana pudding. It was a 3 out of five. It's pudding I mean, what can you expect.
