To me Pappasitos Cantina has always delivered some of the best Tex Mex options in Htown, with consistently good food in multiple locations here. Tonight , I visited the one in Humble off of FM 1960, and once again it did not disappoint. I ordered a very good enchilada combination dish called the Coronado that came with shrimp brochette and enchilada, and a crispy beef taco, but I had them take off the taco and add me an extra enchilada, which they did with no problem. It came with rice and beans and I ordered a side of pico de gallo to go with it. It was piping hot , cheesy, and delicious. zero complaints. And my brother even let me try some of his quail, which I had never tried at any Pappas restaurant before and it too was very good. Super tender, smoky and welled seasoned. Now the reason for the 3 stars was the service. We had two servers and they were both very much in their own worlds.. Messed up my drink order out the gate, inattentive to whether or not we needed things, never once's asked how we were coming along with our meal, ( until the very end of both our meals and our dirty plates were still laying there in front of us) and never asked either one of us if we wanted another drink, and we were sitting at the bar! Although it was busy when we arrived, we were seated within five minutes, which was impressive. The food was pretty tasty. I sat at the bar because they were very busy. Typically, I do not like to sit at the bar because you never know what kind of service you will receive. Well today, I was very happily surprised. The team consisted of Romeo, Julia, Abby, and Abrianna. They worked as a team and my glass was never empty, my area was always clean and they always had a warm smile and a kind greeting. I called to schedule our lunch gathering for coworkers. They were very accommodating for our party of 16. It was during the week and first thing in the morning. Kandra and Jonathan served us and did a wonderful job. I ordered chipotle shrimp, with double rice. Jonathan brought me a roasted jalapeño pepper which really helped kick up the flavor of the meal. I also got their mango and peach flavored tea. You have to ask for it and they will combine flavors. We ordered guacamole but I don't like the pepitas that they add. I always forget to exclude that. I love the chips that come with the guacamole but their other chips are delicious too. The queso with beef was a big hit. I had to force myself to stop so I would eat my meal. I probably ate two baskets of chips myself and I didn't need any of the salsa or quac (which was great). My margarita was terrific and my shrimp quesadilla was gigantic! It really could have fed two people. The parking lot was completely full so we parked at the credit union next door (it was late on a Friday night so they were closed) so if you can't find a space, check there. Truly the best pappasitos i've ever been to! Our server Desiree went above and beyond and was extremely attentive. From the moment we walked in we were immediately seated and taken care of. The entire team was so sweet throughout our visit. The whole atmosphere is great from the get go. Our food came out quickly and was not only completely filling, but delicious. Stopped in for dinner at 5 on a Tuesday. Not crowded at all and we were sat right away. The chips and salsa were good. The queso even better. It's hatch chile month so they were really pushing the hatch chile dishes. I had the chicken hatch tacos which were also good. Not sure I could specifically taste the hatch but overall good. Pappasito's is one of the best Mexican restaurants I have visited. Everything is fresh and the portions are great and affordable. We did the Family Platter #1 and it was very filling and included beef, shrimp, chicken, and ribs with a garlic butter sauce to die for. The family platters are enough to serve 3-4 people and come with choice of beans (refried beans amazing) and rice. The drinks were amazing. This is my third time at a Papacitos, and actually three different locations. I have been nothing but happy with every experience. I cannot tel you just how much I love this restaurant. I'm half mex and lived the first 38 years if my life in California where Mexican food is prominent and how it should be. This is that. Soooo fracking delish. Tortillas are homemade- they make them right in the restaurant. You can TASTE how good there are and damn at I a sucker for fresh corn tortillas (say that with a Mexican accent lol). The beef fajitas STEAL THE SHOW. Followed closely by the brochette shrimp. A weird perk, they aren't on a sizzling skillet, so you don't get "skillet hair" smell! The steak is one of the top 5 I have EVER Had. And I'm borderline obsessed with food and travel a lot, so I have had my fair share! The shrimp is also killer. Served with butter and soooo good. First, the good things about the place are that the servers tend to be attentive and the guacamole is ok; although when I mentioned that I thought the food was bland, there were no suggestions as to how to improve it. The salsa is comparable to the worst that I have had in one other Mexican restaurant. Considering salsa is one of my primary criteria for any Mexican restaurant, I will choose another place next time. The prices for lunch items were simply not worth it. I have never had more bland Mexican food. I ordered the burrito. There was a small amount of a weak Chipotle sauce and some type of sour cream sauce. There was plenty of rice with little seasoning and no onion or vegetables as many Mexican restaurants do. My wife chose the Birria tacos. It tastes ok as far as the sauce. They put in some decent roast, but they left some huge fatty pieces in. Some people like that, so you might enjoy that. Unfortunately, I try to avoid it. The price that we paid was $66 for two people at lunch drinking tea and coke. I have high standards for Mexican food. I didn't really enjoy this restaurant. We will likely stick to other restaurants in Tyler too now. I don't understand how it only got $$ for price. It should have been $$$ or $$$$. Posados is better for Tex Mex if you prefer tomato based salsa with a bit of jalapeños. I would have expected this level of pricing for a seafood restaurant not a place with rice and beans and cheaply made salsa. Typical pappasito's food and drinks. We sat at a 4 top with 4 adults, each couple shared a plate of fajitas. We had zero room on our table, it was very uncomfortable and annoying, there was no way our food would have fit if each person had ordered an individual dish. The drinks are not what they used to be and the margaritas were weak, thankfully, we had good company, so it didn't matter. However, if I'm paying $15 for a margarita, it better be strong and it wasn't, I want to see tequila floating on the top and it was not there. Ambiance was not bad, but the servers were steadily trying to turn our table and even though I realize that is their job, it became a nuisance after the 5th time of being interrupted mid conversation.
