I'm a vintage film camera collector/photographer, and I found Mike a few years ago when I had a couple old cameras I needed some repairs on. Mike is a camera repair wizard, with decades of experience. He even worked for Zeiss Ikon in Germany. He knows his stuff. I've brought him in some challenging repairs, and I've yet to bring him something he couldn't fix. He's super honest, fair, and has you and your camera's best interest in mind. I decided to check out this camera repair shop due to the reviews that I read here on Yelp, and also because it's close to my place. I called first and left a message. When I didn't receive a call back, I called again the next day and ended up speaking with Mike, the owner. Right from the beginning, Mike was super friendly and apologetic that he hadn't updated his voice recording to let customers know to not leave any messages. I made arrangements to drop off my fiance's Canon EOS 70D for Mike to check out. He was prompt in calling me to let me know what needed to be repaired and called again to confirm that I was ok with the price of the replacement part before he ordered it. Not even a week later after Mike received the replacement part, he repaired the camera and I was able to pick it up. His prices are very reasonable and he doesn't add to the price of the part to try and get extra money from his customers. I think his shop is great, it is a bit crowded, but honestly, it's like walking into a camera museum. He has cameras from every decade and I could see myself spending lots of time just chatting with Mike about cameras. read more

Great service, reasonable pricing, quick turnaround. I had taken my camera and lens to Canon and they could not help me. I asked and they suggested a local camera repair shop might be able to help. I do not recommend trading here. Posted hours are 11-5. I showed up at 11:20. Business was closed. I tried to call. No answer and no voice mail. I looked on line and it said that the store would open at 12 this particular day. I went and got something to eat, and came back at 12:10. The store was still closed. I tried calling again. Still no answer and no voice mail. I waited outside until 12:25, and then I finally left. This gentleman may or may not be good at repairing cameras, but customer service leaves a lot to be desired. read more

Don't bother. I took my Canon lens to this location and shouldn't have even consider Camera Tech as an option. This place is filthy. Dust everywhere. If their front end has inches of dust, imaging the workstation. As for the service itself, you have to call him as he won't ever call you. I dropped off my lens, waited a week, called and was told it needed a part and the cost was going to be $140. He told me to call in him 2 weeks. 3 weeks later I called and he said he was waiting for the part to arrive. 2 more weeks pass and I call again as I hadn't heard from him, still no part. I waited another week 2 weeks and called, NO PART YET! I told him if it wasn't ready by Monday (it was currently Wednesday) to put it back together so that I could pick it up and take it to Canon in Costa Mesa. He was brash and said, come pick it up now. When I got there he apologized for his tone and made excuses as to the parts still. I took it to Canon and 1 week later it was done, $143 and they replaced the front assembly and rear mount, plus I got a new front and rear cap set. No hassle, no mess, no bad service, just a great experience. Bottom line, if it's not an antique camera or lens, don't take it here. Even if it was, would you really want to trust such a messy business? read more

Talk about a hard place to find. This joint is seriously off the beaten path for a high end camera repair shop. Hell I hadn't even realized it was strictly camera repair when I stopped by the other day. However this place is the shop of a tinkerer. This is easily seen by the dust over a ton of ancient cameras on shelves all over. There are some random camera lenses and parts for sale, but nothing high end. Pro Tip: Parking is around back and the shop is across the side street from the greyhound station. The guy who works here (owner operator) appears to be a Brit who makes me think of a gnomish tinkerer but he is over 6' tall. He has multiple attachments on his glasses to provide for magnification of the inner workings of whatever he is working on. He has great customer service and I bet hardly gets stuff done as his phone was ringing incessantly. There were a ton of cameras and parts there to be fixed or recently repaired and ready for pick up. This shop appears like a great place to take a camera that needs a repair or three to get it working. Overall all appears great and if I need to get my camera fixed, I believe that this is the guy that I would go to. read more

This review is late, but better now then never. I took Mike a Pacemaker Speed Graphic 4x5, manufactured somewhere in the early 40's, I think, to be repaired and cleaned up. This is not a new camera. They don't make parts for it anymore. Before I gave it to him, the shutter was slow, the cloth shutter didn't work, the rangefinder didn't work, and it was a mess. When I got it back, he had repaired everything. The cloth shutter was factory accurate up to its max shutter speed, the front lens was all clean and working, and it operated like new. I've taken some fantastic large format pictures with it since. I also took him my fathers Canon A1 which, after a long trek in India, was no longer functional. He was able to replace it and its many damaged parts, along with replacing some bad springs, and while it was the cost of a new Canon A1, it was my fathers, and well worth replacing. I'll be taking my Mamiya C330 and lens collection to him for cleaning, as well as some old yashicas that need some serious work. He's just about the only person who I would trust to work on these older cameras. As a side note, he has tons of older gear lying around for anyone looking into it. I probably could have picked up another old 4x5 skeleton from his collection, or any number of other pieces. He also has a collection of newer point-and-shoots against the wall. read more

Mike is awesome, I went there to repair my D800 - that NIKON wouldn't touch at all, despite the fact that I have NPS and that the camera was still under warranty... Trust me, save your money, buy second hand ! And insure your gear ! Nikon camera are awesome, the only way it stop working is when you drop it on the ground or in water, which void any manufacturer warranty. But the worse is that they wouldn't repair it even if I pay for it. The frame was compromise due to a shock and they don't repair a camera if there is the smallest dent on the frame ! So yes. Anyway Mike managed to fix it, it wasn't cheap but much cheaper than what Nikon would have charged if they would have done it, and much cheaper than buying a new camera ! He also fixed the the aperture control stick that was broken on one of my lens. And the mount on an other one. I was surprised by how cheap it was ! Bottom line, if you have some camera to repair and it's not under warranty (check first with the manufacturer, we never know), then bring it here ! He's good, fast and very friendly. His shop could use some good cleaning though ! read more

The store seriously looks like a a den of a camera hoarder. Walking into the store you will immediately understand just how much of a camera-obsessed tinkerer this man is. Aside from his kind and welcoming demeanor, and his amazing accent, Mike the owner of this humble store definitely knows how to treat things with care and precision. Now I came here off a recommendation from a friend who had his camera fixed here. He raved about how much of a camera genius this guy was, and surely I had no doubt he would fix it. It cost me a substantial amount less then what I would have had to pay the Nikon dealership, although it took him a couple of weeks extra to get the parts. I went in with a broken shutter on a d5100, he took care of it and even was courteous enough to wipe and clean off my APS-C Sensor which had apparently had some residue on it as well as some moisture had gotten in around it. While he was in there he said he cleaned it all up. He noted that my viewfinder's lens was cracked and told me if i ever wanted it replaced he would do it to make sure it got in right. It is very hard to find someone who can repair old film cameras, and I was incredibly grateful to have found this shop because my camera is as good as new! I don't even know where to begin. After driving around for too long trying yo find the place (my husband dropped off). They never answer the phone and worker told me he was late getting in. When I finally found the store Mike couldn't locate my lens. After he had told my husband everything was ready he could not locate our lens. When he finally did IT HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. He did fix it after another 1 1/2 hours waiting in his dumpy little hole in the ground. Also he tried to tell me the estimate was only for part of the job. Oh heck no!!! I don't understand what the aesthetics of his shop have to do with his ability to do his job. I think his shop is amazing, it's like a museum inside. As for his ability, he did an excellent job on my Canon and at a very reasonable price. My camera was ready when he said it would be and I will recommend him to my friends and coworkers. The keeper of this establishment undoubtedly loves what he does, as all men who are passionate about those things upon which they work find themselves surrounded by them. This is reflected in the environment of the shop itself, having cameras, camera parts, and camera posters covering the ground, the walls, the shelves, tables, and the countertops. Michael is an honest businessman and it doesn't take more than a glance around his shop to see that his passion defines an obvious yet deep understanding of cameras and their mechanics. His shop has soul to it and if I could, I would give him 6 stars. I cannot think of a better place to take a vintage camera for repair or adjustment. One thing to note is that due to his distinguished years, one ought to be a little more merciful if he were to not be available during usual business hours. I stumbled upon this shop on Yelp and went here after reading the good reviews. The shop is located at odd location next to the Greyhound station and next to a Mexican herbal medicine shop. Inside, everything seems anachronistic. It is dimly lit and there are random old cameras everywhere. It made me wonder if this guy even knows anything about modern digital cameras but I am reassured by the reviews and referrals. The owner Mike said he was trained to work on Leicas back in 1969 in Europe so he is old school for sure. I brought in an old Canon 540ez flash that is broken and Mike agreed that it will be $40 if it can be fixed. It turned out that the problem is worst than what I paid for the unit so Mike charged me 10 dollars and suggested that I sell it off as-is for parts. Wonderful old school camera shop. Mike (the owner) is very personable, knowledgeable and reliable. I came in for a DSLR sensor cleaning, it was ready when promised (in just two hours!) and the price was very fair. I also had a great chat with Mike because we both used to live in the same part of the UK when we were younger. It's so nice to go into a shop and get personal service, these days that seems to be harder and harder to find, but not here. Whenever I have some serious repairs I check with Mike first before I try repairing it with Nikon bc his rates are very affordable. Don't come here if you expect a modern building with ample parking. Don't expect a showroom with all the latest cameras on display. If the preceding sounds like the Canon facility in Irvine, it is, and that's where I learned that my Canon camera, only ten years old, couldn't be repaired because the parts were no longer available. And don't expect a strip mall south county camera shop whose personnel would rather ignore you than offer service. When you deal with Mike at Anaheim Camera Tech, don't be surprised if you find an honest, considerate, talented repairman who has your interest at heart. I had little hope for my camera after it fell about 3 feet onto a tile floor. Indeed, Mike found the camera to be moribund but utilizing some parts from his collection of cameras was able to revive my camera, and for an extremely reasonable charge. Mike is one of those skilled craftsmen who work not to retire early in affluence but rather for the reward of seeing work well done as well as helping people. His work hours are limited; his telephone contact is evasive, but if you're patient and want a repair job done well, he's your man. read more

Don't fall for the gimmicks of a fancier place; the second you step into Mike's shop, you can tell he's a camera buff. The guy is an expert, he is surprisingly organized given the old computer ticketing system and he is very helpful. He had helped fix my Sony NEX awhile ago when I pretty much had given up on it; it would not start. After he fixed it, it worked beautifully. Since then it's broken again but it's not his fault.
