This was my second camera repair by Mike. He was able to source and replace a dead LCD screen on my discontinued Canon Digicam. This is a good place to get repairs if you only have one or two you need fixed. The owner works alone, so if you have several cameras needing repair, like for a school or organization, it takes quite a while to get the fixed cameras back. The owner is really knowledgeable and nice, but is not the best at communicating with the customer regarding updates or issues. I had several film cameras needing repair and he fixed half of them after having them several months. They work great, like I said, he is good a fixing cameras. However, the other half never got fixed, he had them almost a year, I called for updates, and was told they were not ready. Only when I said I needed to close out the account, did he tell me he could not get the parts to fix them. I feel like this should have been a phone call he made to me once he realized this issue. It was frustrating. I wish him the best, but I recommend finding out an estimated completion date for your needed repair. The cost for my specific camera issue was about $200 per camera, but it really depends what is wrong and how hard the parts are to get. read more

Mike is awesome! I came in after my camera shutter broke (due to my trying to clean the lens and failing miserably) and Mike was able to fix it and he cleaned the lens as well. Please note you will have to leave your camera for an estimate and his hours as of 5/7/2022 are Mon-Fri from 1-5pm and Sat from 1-4pm. It took about a week and a half for my camera to be repaired and it was reasonably priced, best buy was about to charge me 3x the amount!! I came in later than expected due to traffic and it was near closing time so I asked him how much it would cost to repair my AE-1 Program's squeaky shutter. I apologized for arriving 10 minutes before closing and he assured me it was no problem, and to call him tomorrow for a quote. Over the phone he asked me when I wanted it by, which was a nice gesture in itself. I figured I wouldn't receive my camera back any less than a week after confirming I wanted to follow through with the repair, but within 2 days he called me to let me know the job was done. Through our short conversations it was apparent he wasn't an elitist photographer like others I've encountered, who might intimidate amateurs like myself. He charged me fairly, and it was nice to converse with him. A bit of context: So I got some sand in my focusing mechanism and I decided it would be a smart idea to try and dismantle my $850 vintage lens to get the sand out. Quick in, quick out right? Wrong. I dismantled it and 6 hours later I couldn't get it back together. So I look up some camera repair shops and I spend the day going to a couple shops to get quotes. No-one wanted to reassemble my lens because it was such a difficult and tedious job. Everyone was quoting me around $300-$600 to reassemble the lens. Samy's actually recommended that I go here or Adam's electronics. So I went to Adam's first and they actually recommended me to this place. Initially, this was on one of the places I had marked to check out but the shop wasn't open earlier that day so I decided to come back later. Fast forward to 3 PM and I give Mike a call and he initially says he can't do it but I'm free to come over so he can check it out. I come to the shop and it's full of vintage cameras and lenses. I'm a camera geek so initially I was kind of in awe. But I was also a bit skeptical considering the poor upkeep of the shop. Nonetheless, it didn't affect how I viewed Mike or his craftsmanship. It also drastically helped that all the reviewers on Google and Yelp gave him such favorable ratings. I show him all the parts of the lens and he takes a look at it in the back. He tells me if I want to leave it overnight he can quote me tomorrow. So I agree and go on my way. Fast forward to tomorrow: I call in and ask him what his quote is. He says $100-$150 in 3-4 hours. I was taken aback. This was an incredibly good quote and much better than anyone else so I eagerly consent to letting him reassemble it. I was excited. I give him 1-2 weeks to work on it before calling in to see how he was coming along with the lens. He says he's having quite a bit of trouble with the aperture springs and he's already spent 8 hours, staying up till 2 in the morning, working on it. He says it's going to be an expensive job. I was a bit let down to be honest but I expected that it was going to be a pricey job no matter how good his estimate was. The very next day he calls back and says he's done with the lens and the final price for the job is $220. I was excited and relieved as I was anticipating a job within the ballpark of $400-$600. I felt bad so I ended up paying him $260 for his time and trouble. I hurry over to his shop and see my lens back in its reassembled glory. I give it a few test shots and it works exactly as it should. I was impressed and extremely happy that Mike was able to pull through with this job. The focusing mechanism was relubed as if it was straight out of the factory. We had a short conversation and I was on my way shortly. I don't normally leave reviews but I firmly believe Mike deserves a long and well written review because when all the big camera shops rejected me, he took my lens in and actually fixed it AND gave me the best price on top of everything. I really do sincerely wish the best for Mike and will do my best to refer him in the future to all my photography friends. read more

This guy said he could fix my Nikon coolpix p520. It's a pretty new camera and it won't power on. Seems like a pretty simple fix. I went in a few times because he never returns your calls and never answers the phone. Should have seen the red flags there. The first time we went in he couldn't even find my camera because he didn't put it in his system. Well another red flag. But he said he could fix it so I left it there. He kept saying he's waiting for parts. Well.... 6 months later I go in to pick it up fixed or not and he says sorry I can't get parts. What a joke. Save yourself the trouble and don't go here. He couldn't even call to tell me he couldn't do it and to come pick it up. Who runs a business like that. I have no idea how this place has 4.5 stars. Yelp is BS now. read more

Mike repaired my Mamiya 645 pro tl camera shutter leaf and when I picked it up I asked if he checked the shutter speeds and he said he did but a test rolled revealed something was way off on 1/500. A measurement tool revealed 1/500 was 1/50 and all the other speeds were about 2x over. Only 1/125 was close. I would never trust this guy. This repair cost me $490 and it's basically useless now. I originally found Mike (aka the Camera Tech) well over a decade ago when my old Nikon N70 shorted out on Christmas morning. I went back and forth on whether or not to fix it or replace it, but I really did love the body (yeah, I was one of the few that actually did like the N70) so I decided that as long as the repair was reasonable, I would have it fixed. I went to my local Mom & Pop camera shop and they referred me to Mike. When I dropped of my body he asked asked me to give him a call in a couple days and he would have an estimate for me. He actually called me the next morning with a question.. "Have you gotten your camera wet?" I replied that I hadn't and he found it odd. Said the camera's control board was all corroded and that it was indicative of excess moisture. I thought back and revised my answer.. "Actually, yes." I said. About five months ago, I was shooting in Arizona and got caught in a surprise downpour, (who'd have thunk it.. AZ has a monsoon season!) but my camera had been working just fine since. He explained to me that it took time for the guts to deteriorate (usually 4 to 6 months) to the point of failure. He was right on the money. He had to actually order the part from Nikon so the repair took longer than expected, but all in all he did a fantastic job and at an even better price. Since then, I have taken in close to a dozen cameras ranging from a couple twin lens reflexes to an old Crown Graphix 4x5, to modern DSLRs and today my Dad's Panasonic Lumix ZS7 P&S. Actually, Mike scolded me after he did a cleaning on my Nikon D200. He told me that it was, by far the dirtiest camera he had ever worked on. I told him that it didn't surprise me which was why I had it in getting a good cleaning. He asked me what I did and I explained to him that I do a lot of off roading out in the desert and that the camera went with me everywhere. As dusty as our local deserts are, the camera couldn't help but get dust all through it. I promised him that I would bring it in more often so that it didn't get that bad again. All in all, Mike is an EXTREMELY honest business man and is probably the most talented camera and lens repairman that I have had the pleasure of meeting. Can't comment on the camera work but can comment on business practices. Yelp says the shop opens at 11:00am. Google says the shop opens at noon. I called before leaving home and phone just rings. No voicemail. I left home in time to arrive after noon. At 12:15 door is still locked. The sign on the door says open at 11:00am. Another potential customer was waiting also and he checked with a neighboring shop. They said the camera shop opens at 1:00pm. So I wasted about an hour driving and 15 minutes in the parking lot.
