I found this place online. When I walked into the store I was brought back in time with all the old cameras. Mike the owner was very helpful, and even had an old war story. What a life saver! I dropped my lens and needed it fixed same day. He delivered and at a great cost!

This place is awesome. Right through the front door you're already in this photography wonderland, it's evident that the owner of the store (I didn't get his name ) is extremely experienced with the massive collection of camera equipment and gear in the room. There is so much stuff to wonder at! Some of the equipment in the collection looks antique and super old, and a lot of it is newer, as well! The owner is clearly experienced all around because some of the equipment looked like it was from the 1800s and then there were some new Canon cameras as well. Anyways, I took my Nikon D3300 in to get the sensor cleaned (stupid dust particles) and the viewfinder cleaned as well. I have a little bit of perfectionist OCD so I will admit that I was nervous giving my camera to anybody that wasn't Nikon for services, but my doubts are now gone. I got my camera back (on the same day and only a few hours later) and the sensor was squeaky clean! And there was no more dust in my viewfinder! I will be using this shop in the future for any repairs or services with my camera. The owner is a really nice older gentleman and you can tell he enjoys his craft, and he's really nice to talk to! I came in with a busted lens locking pin for my 5D Mark II, he explained what the problem was in great detail and I left genuinely happy and thankful. I droped my camera broke the shutters, luckily it wasnt the lens, and he fixed it for me as best he could. Its been over six months and it still works great. The price was acceptable and I am happy. I apologize for my DELAYED Review, Mike :) Less than a month ago I took my Nikon D5100 camera to this Camera Tech owned by Mike. My camera was recently bought the beginning of the year. Anyhow, had issue with the camera shutter. Mike had asked me to leave it for a few days and he will check it out. Really felt welt weird about it but I did. He turned out to be very passionate with camera and honest guy. He charged me $120 for the service. He was flexible with the price and was able to pay him $100 for adjusting my "shutter:. Staying near the Convention Center, my Nikon D40's battery gave out on a 2 week trip and I had forgotten to pack the charger. Reading comments here I thought maybe I could pop in and pick up a charger, or maybe just get 15 minutes of charge if Mike was willing. We got talking, and even though there were only 2 hours left in the day, I left my camera with him so he could check out my non-working internal flash which I had been told by a dealer in Levittown, Pennsylvania (yes there really is such a place) was not fixable. When I returned, he had found the problem, replaced the broken circuit chip, charged my battery, and found a lense cap for me. The least I could do was buy a portable charger as well! $135 for the whole deal, which is a good deal cheaper than the external flash unit I was contemplating. Just picked up my Canon 16-35mm L f2.8 this afternoon. The lens had fallen, attached to the camera from tripod height. Upon inspection, the lens suffered a bent and scratched filter thread ring as well as locked up the focus ring (the lens was stuck at 16mm). Mike stayed open a little later than for me since finding the place was somewhat difficult. Dropping off the lens I I was told the the estimate would be free and it would take a few days. Speaking with him later, I was quoted a price of $115 dollars "if", it wasn't beyond repair due to the tricky nature of the damage, or so I was told. The repair would take two weeks and I was instructed to call him at that time. Two weeks later I contacted Mike and was told that my lens had been ready for nearly a week, and he would have contacted me if he hadn't entered my number incorrectly. All and all, Mike is a very pleasant man to deal with and delivered on everything he had advertised. My lens works the same as it did before the fall. Mike repaired the internals and filter thread ring as well as touched-up the scratches with black paint. No joke, he did a really decent job, better than I expected actually. read more

I took in two B&H 16mm movie cameras to get fixed, they were not running. These cameras are over 73 years old and Mike did a great job on them. He can fix them all, old or new. Mike (the owner) is amazing! He is a very nice, innocent man. Though i do admit, his shop is quite worn down, but it's the quality of the products that count. He was able to fix my Nikon that had a broken rim. I also had asked if he had any polaroids and he gave me his only polaroid. It is a Spirit 600 CL and it is in mint condition. I bought it for $42 which is a steal because on ebay, it is $130! The film for it is $18.99 for a pack of 8. In conclusion, you can tell Mike has had very much experience is the realm of camera and the aesthetic of it. I recommend Mike for any camera troubles. read more

I sent my lens from Mexico through a friend and it was faster and cheaper to fix it than any service in my country. Been using the repaired 35m 1.4 lens for three months and no problems at all. This guy actually fixes things. Most will only replace parts and charge a shitload for it. Can´t say enough good things about this shop. read more

This place is so cool! The man was very nice and figured out my boyfriends camera problem super quickly. After switching out the battery, turns out the charger was broke. He sold us the charger for half the price my boyfriend payed for his last battery charger. Stay Away!! Nice man but I think he is not able to repair any camera beyond old mechanical cameras. I have tried him on a few occasions and have been disappointed at the quality, time and thoroughness of the repairs. I found this place through yelp because of the high ratings. I had a horrible experience with the owner. He is disorganized, filthy shop, and rips people off. Prices will depend on the job, he will quote you the repair price on the phone after you drop off your camera in the shop and when you arrive to pickup your camera, he'll up the prices hosting you hostage. He tries to justify his price hike saying the price he quotes didn't offset the part and his time. As proper business etiquette, a business man should deliver what he quotes a customer and this did not happen in my case. Be prepared to get your quote in writing or else record his word is as good as trash. Be aware of using this service. read more

The shop is dark inside, but it's awesome because of all the cameras he has laying around. It's like a camera crematory, since they're all gutted up and dead. Every time I visit Mike, the camera tech, there's always new old cameras I find. I always ask him if I could buy one and if he could fix it, but it's usually a no haha. Mike is such a nice dude and he always fixes/cleans my cameras with such quick turnaround times. He's the only guy I've been able to trust with all of my old film cameras which I still use. I really like that I can go to him for advice and when I can't find a manual online for an old camera he usually knows how it works and teaches me. read more

After reading all the reviews here on Yelp, I decided to drop off my Fuji x100. The power switch broke and Fujifilm wanted $250 for it. Mike, the owner, fixed it for $140. I went to Michael after randomly searching his store on Yellow Pages. I called to inquire about my Samsung NV11, which need DIRE lens help. My lens had impact damage, according to him, after he did a free inspection for me. He told me the cost, which was lower than what Samsung was going to charge me, and I sent my camera over to him. I needed the camera ASAP, and because the camera parts were hard to find, he couldn't guarantee it would be ready so quickly (I love his honesty), but he was able to get it done in perfect timing. You can tell his genuine love for cameras by the awesome stock of vintage and modern cameras in his shop, and his work and care for cameras is very very meticulous. He even told me to be more careful, genuinely caring for customers, and not trying to get us to break them again so we go back! (Trust me, there are camera repair shops like that!). I highly recommend Camera Tech to anyone who needs their camera fixed. My camera is back and in perfect condition, and I couldn't be any happier! read more

The reviews here are spot on. This store is located on the west side of State College in a very small shopping spot. The store is hardly visible from the street, and there is parking on the side or behind the store. When you walk in, the store is very dark, and there are a LOT of old cameras, camera equipment, typewriters, and misc items. One yelper described it as a being a place for a camera hoarder. The owner, Mike, is an older gentleman who runs the place all by himself. He keeps track of his customers on a very old computer and system. I went in to have a Canon 50mm f1.4 lens repaired just recently. It was slow to focus. An estimate from Canon was approx. $130. He was able to repair it for $90 in one week! It works great! He also mentioned that a new USM motor would be approx. $48 with no labor charge. IMO, it may not look like much of a shop from the inside, being so old and cluttered, but Mike is a nice guy who appears to have been in the camera repair business for a very long time. I would def come back here should I need any repairs in the future. read more

Mike was awesome, I have came by with my 24-70 f2.8 with the filter ring damage. I would not have been able to make it to the other camera shop I was recommended as they quoted me lower but I was on a time crunch because I needed the thread fixed so I can put a filter on it for my event shot in a sandy windy environment and needed to protect the front element. I was glad that he was able to match the price and complete it quickly. It helped me cause I'm just a photographer that shoot for non profit organization and school. I would come back here to get anymore of my gears fixed if they needed too. He was great as well as chatting with him was great too. He may be a bit aged but he is sharp and great. read more

I was quoted $580 to fix my broken high end Canon lens elsewhere, plus shipping... Mike kept my lens for analysis and got me an estimate in 2 days- for just $150! He said the repair would take 2-3 weeks if it could even be fixed at all, but gave me a call just a couple days later saying my lens was ready- just in time for an international trip.
