    Fish and chips

Solid fish and chips at this hole in the wall British pub in Pacifica. The 2 piece fish and chips came with 2 large pieces of fish. The fish has a nice crunch and the batter wasn't too thick. The fish was tender, juicy, and not fishy. Comparable to fish and chips I've had in London. The fries are larger cut wedge fries and nicely done. Comes with a serving of tartar sauce. For $22, not exactly cheap but good quality. We also ordered the clam strips but I would stick with the fish and chips. The clam strips use a thicker batter and I really couldn't taste much clam flavor to be honest.

This is such a gem! The portions are huge!! We both went in so hungry. We analyzed their menu and we were both going to order our own item. Very last minute we decided, let's just split the 3 piece fish and chips and get a side of jalapeno poppers! I am so glad we split it!!! The 3 pieces of fish were ginormous! The lady was helping us find a table because the place was packed. She brought us an extra stool too to wait outside! It's so cute in there, makes you feel like you're in England! This place needs to stay in business forever

Nice spot on a cold day, which is pretty much most days here lol. The plates were huge and served hot, which I love. It however lacked flavor and crispiness. Service was very good. Even though it's small with limited seating, they were great at accommodating our group of 6.

    Combination- fish, crab cake, fries

I remember coming here with my family when I was younger and it was not how I remember it. $54 for 2 combinations, which contained 1 fish, 1 crab cake, and fries. The fish was okay but the batter on the fish was bland and not as crispy as it used to be, even slightly falling off. The fries are unsalted and very dry. Of course everything is fried but everything was quite heavy/ full of oil. You order at the register and it's then delivered to your table. The place is quite small and I noticed some waiting for tables. This place has been here for forever but in my opinion there are other more affordable and tastier fish and chip spots.

3.5 rounded up to 4. It's alright. Is the food on par with typical fish and chip places in England? No, but the pub decor is nice. I like the mini wooden barrels that the condiments and the napkins and silverware are placed in. I'm not sure why people were raving about the krab cake. It's imitation krab. It's not good or worth the stomach space in my opinion. I wasn't paying attention when my partner suggested we order it. I would rather the two pieces of fish combo in the future. The fish they use is okay. The fried sausage was a deep fried sausage. Not the tastiest sausage but the friedness was novel. The fries are solid. Slightly thick, a bit soft, but still crispy on the edges. Everything was freshly fried and served hot. The batter they use for the fish is different than the onion rings. I thought that the onion rings would use a wet beer batter on them but they were breaded, like bread crumb breaded. My favorite item was the fried mars bar for dessert. The beer that was recommended to me was half Guinness and half cider and it was refreshing to drink. They need to re-write the sign by the door. About 1/3 of the people get confused. One of the servers gets mad at people who wait politely by the door especially when the restaurant is full because they don't know whether to wait to get seated or to go all the way to the bar to ask for a seat and order. Instead of welcoming customers and letting them know that they'll be next to get seated or if there are people in front of them, she sternly said something like "You need to go to the front to order first before you can get a table." Well, that's kind of out of the norm and what is the front? The front door? Or is it the back of the restaurant near the bar? She meant the bar. Luckily we had a different server and she was nice.

Been meaning to stop by to try their fish and chips. Let me say, easy to find street parking. The menu is very simple and short. We ordered: Fish (2 ) with chips and Chicken (2) with chips. We also ordered onion rings to share. Wow. Big pieces of fish and chicken. Good. Both the fish and chicken were not dry or salty. The chips were crunchy not soggy at all. We would definitely come back to have more fish and chicken. Thank you.

Camelot is a classic English-style restaurant with a very small, cozy interior -- about eight small tables and two bar seats. The atmosphere and decor are great and really sell the pub feel. You order at the counter and then sit, which works well given how busy it gets. A lot of people call in orders, and the place fills up quickly, but the food comes out fast and people tend to rotate through at a steady pace. It's a very simple menu with about seven protein choices, all done in the same classic fish-and-chips style, which keeps things easy and efficient. They do a proper Guinness pour, along with a few other solid beer options. The fish is Icelandic pollock -- not local, which I was hoping for -- but it is the traditional English pub choice. It's wild-caught, sustainable, and honestly a good quality fish even if it's not local.

I can't believe this was my first time at Camelot and not my last! I went on a Friday at around 1:30pm it was packed and we got the last table. Then a larger line built, wow I got a root beer on tap! It was refreshing and I got the Camelot special with everything in it. Yummy oysters, big chuck of fish, loved the shrimps. I usually like skinny fries but these were different, it had a nice creamy baked potato texture in the middle, which liked. It was perfect fried basket of goodness.

Came in for dinner last night while staying in Pacifica. It's a teeny tiny little pub and it filled up really quick shortly after we got there. The service was good- order/pay at the counter and they bring it out to you when ready. I ordered fish and chips and fried clams and all of it was great! The fish was crispy on the outside and tender and flaky on the inside. I really enjoyed the fries also, nice crisp on the outside and fluffy inside.

Such a cute spot, nice pub with date night lighting. Really enjoyed the fish it was hot and crispy, the fries were solid, but the fish was the star here.

    Not recommend

Good fish and chip but the crab cake was disappointing This was my first time trying this place, and I came based on my uncle's recommendation since he's local. I'm glad I gave it a try! The deep-fried fish was actually really good, juicy, and nicely fried. Definitely the highlight of my meal. Unfortunately, the crab cake was a disappointment. For $20, I expected real crab cake, but it was imitation crab. At that price, I don't think it was worth it. I would definitely come back for the fried fish, but I'd skip the crab cake next time.

Fish combo with crab cake tasted
    Anna G.

I was super excited to try this new local restaurant. I have been wanting a very good fish and chips for a long time. The reviews of this location really stood out to me as a mom and pop shot, and i appreciated the variety of combinations you could have. I ordered the fish combo with a crab cake. I took my food down to eat at the water, so it sat in a box for a few minutes, not very long at all. I tasted the fish and it tasted very overcooked, and very bland. It did not taste buttery at all. It was not flaky, as some prior reviews suggested it was. I could not finish more than half of one fish. The fries were very bland, as if there was no salt on them at all. Now the crab cake - all I tasted was pesto. I am not sure if pesto is in the crab cake, but all I tasted was herbs, and not in a fresh way. I love crab, and this was my first crab cake, and I was very disappointed. I would not come back to this place. I had very high hopes, and became very disappointed. I am upset that I spent $27 on a plate of food I could barely touch. I do not recommend coming here. I wish I could get my money back. Thumbs down

We made reservations ahead of time because I read other reviews about how busy this place can get. And good thing we did, because it was packed in there. We were warmly greeted when we checked in at the front and taken to our table. They had a reserved sign on our table right by the window facing the ocean. We really appreciated them saving us such a wonderful table with a view. Our waitress Sara, came by and brought us menus and introduced herself. She told us the specials and gave us some time to make a decision. I loved her. Sara was awesome, hilarious and gave some good advice on some menu items, which I appreciated. I decided to get the famous crab sandwich. I got the half portion with the side salad and a cup of clam chowder. My husband ordered one of the specials, which was the chicken piccata as well as a cup of clam chowder. I also ordered an iced tea. Our clam chowders arrived first. It was so good. We both enjoyed them. It had a lot of clams in it. It was delicious and comforting. Our entrees came out shortly after our chowders. Thank goodness I ordered the half portion of the crab sandwich because it was huge. It was full of crab and it was delicious. The sourdough bread had been grilled with butter and the crab had a very light amount of mayo, as it should, so you can taste the fresh crab. I noticed a lot of people leaving negative reviews that the crab had no flavor or it was bland. This is exactly how you're supposed to enjoy a fresh crab sandwich. The more stuff added to the sandwich takes away the flavor of what you want to experience, which is the crab. The crab was definitely the star here. This is the best crab sandwich I've ever had. They were very generous with the portion of crab, I received, for a half sandwich. The sandwich was on the pricey side but that's expected, because crab isn't cheap. It was worth the price, to me. My husband's chicken piccata looked really good and came with a side of asparagus and pasta. He loved it. We both ate all of our food and were pleased and stuffed. The inside of this restaurant is very old fashioned and retro. You can tell that it has been here for a long time. It is decorated with a nautical theme. I thought it made the experience even better. I highly recommend coming here, if you're in the area. The food was amazing and customer service was excellent.

Coming to Nicks is relaxing and fun. It does feel a little bit like coming back in time with the wood paneling and big booths and that is part of the charm. Nicks is a Pacifica and Bay Area gem- they do not make restaurants like this anymore! Highly recommend the crab sandwich- get the full size one and it's enough to talk home half and have for an amazing lunch the next day. We also love the caesar salad- made with real anchovies and AMAZING caesar dressing- I have been trying to recreate the Nick's dressing at home without success. Shout out to Jim the waiter who is completely charming and kind and so nice to all his customers. We saw him helping an elderly gentleman with his walker all the way out the front door and then singing happy birthday to another diner. He is a class-act! Also the bartenders make an excellent lemon drop martini- it has freshly squeezed lemons, is always ice cold and the perfect swirl of rind accenting the glass. They really nail the perfect balance of crisp bright tartness with the sweet sugar on the rim. Be sure to leave extra time to come early and walk along the beach or linger after dinner and watch the waves and the sunset. You can see whales from the parking lot! This is a family place where you will see all generations dining. Yes it does sort of have "Boomer vibes" in a nostalgic way but that is part of the old fashioned charm of the place. The food and service are top notch and it's a top notch enjoyable evening! Friday and Saturday nights they also have live bands with couples dancing the music is always good even if you are just sitting in the dining room it is fun to hear and the dancing looks so fun! Great crab sandwich, cold cocktails, warm service, ocean views, music, and dancing... love Nick's!

So we went next door to the actual sit down restaurant. It was our first ever dine in experience. Kinda hard to believe since we've been going to the walkup stand for nearly 30 years but never stepped into the restaurant. First thing I noticed was the size of the place. Ya' all it's small in there. Beyond left of cozy. The tables are close together. I'm not a large person, but even I had to turn and twist to maneuver around the tables while dodging other customers and staff. The view is gorgeous though, I didn't get to enjoy it since my back was towards the windows. Oh yes, you'll have to row-sham-bo with folks in party to see who gets the chairs with the view. Onto to talking about the food... Hubs got the fish n chips. This is one of the items we order at the walk up stand. Classic battered cod fried to a golden crisp. Beautiful golden color crust, satisfying audible crunch, Yum. The fries are thick cut. Very standard. I went rogue trying something totally new from here. I ordered the prawn pasta. With that entree, I received a sliced bread loaf to the table with butter. It was served a bit warm. Tasted great. Nice. Bring on the carbs! The pasta has two sauce options of Italiano style sauce or marinara. II asked the server what was the difference, he said Italiano style sauce was thicker without additional info. So Italiano style it is. The linguine was covered in a copious amount of the sauce. The sauce itself had profound sweetness. My tastebuds debated on liking it. The sauce to pasta ratio was overboard. But the amount of prawns was a nice serving size. The prawns were mixed into the sauce. They weren't easily visible. It was an Easter egg hunt to find them. If I had a choice between the walk up stand or sit down restaurant, I'll go to the walk up shack. Each place has a different menu. My palette and preferences are geared towards the walkup shack. Combination rating of 4 stars.
