Girlfriend took me here for the first time and I'm glad she did! Small, but hip place for Italian cousine. Pretty cozy. Pasta was great as well as their sauces and bread. Next time I'd like to try the pizza. Great beer and wine selections, however the only Moscato(my fav) they had was the cheap barefoot brand(not my fav). Dinning room is small and can be kinda loud. Can't speak to much of the menu here as I have Celiac, but I love the gluten-free pizza. Thin crust, stretchy cheese, fresh basil; it's great! Don't let the strip mall exterior fool you, this place has really good food. The staff of ladies that helped us were awesome! I got the lasagna and being Italian myself, with an incredible grandmothers cooking, I can say, Calvino knows what their doing! My husband got the Stromboli and another win! One of the worst dining experiences. Our server was incompetent and a complete idiot. We had to ask for refills when our glasses were empty for 20 minutes. My husbands food never arrived. When we asked why, we were told they ran out of pasta, the server knew about it for an hour and just forgot to tell us, and then just cancelled the order without telling us. Unacceptable. read more

Calvino's definitely has the best lasagna in town, I had it tonight and added beef- excellent! They serve it with a side salad which was surprisingly good (green pepper, onion, black olives, banana peppers), they also include a very generous basket of garlic bread. Calvino's is a quaint little restaurant in the Westgate area. It is located in Cricket West. While the service and staff were friendly and helpful, my entree of Fettuccine Alfredo was less than desirable. The fettuccine noodles where cooked well, but the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. It had a strange taste and lacked the richness of Alfredo sauce cooked with creams and butter and lightly seasoned with cheese and wine. This is a shame since I frequent the area and have been looking for an authentic Italian Restaurant. Again I reiterate that the staffing was more than gracious and welcoming. read more

Best pizza ive had in a long time. Highly recommend the 4 cheese pizza. Food came out extremely fast. They also give you bread ahead of your meal made from the pizza crust. Waitress was extremely helpful with ordering and kind. We will be back. read more

So while I am at it, please do not call yourself a pizzeria and put cheddar cheese on some of your set pies. I had the chicken creamy tomato tortellini. It was dry, pasta wasn't covered with sauce and chicken was tough and full of fat. Stick with the pizza which is ok and make sure u order a FULL bottle of wine to choke it all down. Only go if u must. I will give it one more try. I had two bites of my meal and didnt take it home. Calvino's is my favorite pizza place. They have pretty much ruined all other pizza joints for me. Their bread is magical. It has great flavor, perfect chewey-ness and its still crunchy and tender at the same time. They make their pizzas super fast too. Good portions, but the food was not great. I had the linguine with fresh mushrooms. I chose to add sausage with the Alfredo sauce at the recommendation of the waitress. Kind of bland and they forgot the mushrooms. My girlfriend had the penne with marinara and meatballs. The sauce was so sweet it was closer to ketchup. Stumbled on this restaurant on the way to the symphony. The first impression was the smell which was fabulous. The bread basket had nuggets of dough drenched in olive oil and herbs. Very good. The spinach feta appetizer was terrific, as was the marinara with it. DH had a club Stromboli which was very good. He had the original size. A mini would have been plenty. The smoked ham in the sandwich was excellent. Blue cheese dressing on the salad was good. The butternut squash ravioli to die for. I had it with garlic and olive oil. YUM! No room for dessert, and we took 3 boxes home. Next time ( and it will be soon even though I live 50 miles away) I will order less so I can try dessert. The turtle chocolate cake looked good, and the tirimisu (sp?) was recommended. They were busy, but we were served quickly. The waitress was friendly and helpful. read more

We went here for a birthday lunch around 12:30 on a Saturday. Very friendly and quick service, especially for a large group (9 people). I shared a Greek pizza and garden salad- both were delicious. Many others had Stromboli and they were good... Good balance of meat, vegetables, and cheese. The wine was reasonably priced too. They also let us bring in a birthday cake. Loved it! The wine was good, we had the Pinot Noir. We got a Stromboli which was excellent. Nicely prepared and cooked to perfection! I'm writing this based solely on take-out food. The staff is very friendly and chatty, which I'm a fan of, I ordered the white pizza and an order of fries to go. The food was hot and fresh as can be. The fries were marginal, at best, but the white pizza was out of this world amazing. I'd suggest not eating this pizza on a first date, or if you plan on getting close with someone, as it does have a ton of garlic on it. I'll be back, possibly as early as tomorrow night. read more

Calvino's is excellent IF you know what to expect. This is a solid mid-range pizza place, and they're very good at what they do. The bread basket is faaaantastic, seriously addicting. I think it's just baked extra pieces of pizza dough. Buttery, bready goodness. Tons of pizzas to choose from, including a lot of vegetarian options. Prices are very reasonable for what you're getting. Ambience is casual, good for families, for chatting with friends, or even for a date. The downstairs area feels a bit fancier, with tall tables and nicer decor. Again, don't come here expecting a fine dining experience. But for good pizza at a good price, Calvino's is a solid choice. read more

You can tell this is a newer restaurant, many corks! Way too expensive for the plain food. Service was slow and rude. Food served its purpose to fill belly but not anything tasty, bread was hard, pizza was horrible, wine list was small and no beers worth talking about. The food was fine/good. Service leaves a lot to be desired. We ordered a garlic bread appetizer, which never came. One member of my group ordered the gazpacho, which never came. We would have gladly informed our server we still hadn't received either but that would have required her to actually check on us occasionally. Smaller complaints are along the lines of black olives being in my salad after asking them to be left out (and the only reason I asked was because our server explicitly asked "is there anything you want me to leave off the salad?") and having to ask for silverware multiple times before finally getting to eat our meals. When our server finally showed up again to ask how we'd like to split up checks, we pointed out we never got our appetizer or soup and asked she made sure they were removed from the bill, to which she responded "oh yes I'm so sorry we have new runners so sometimes they mess up"... Okay that may be true but if she bothered to check on us after we put our order in this could have been resolved an hour beforehand. read more

Friends and I headed to Calvino's last Saturday to catch a bite before a play. We were greeted and seated immediately in the downstairs bar area. Although the restaurant is in a strip mall, the inside has a cozy feel. The complimentary garlic knots were liberally doused in butter, garlic and Parmesan which quickly disappeared. I ordered the tomato mozzarella salad which was the only disappointment at the table. The ingredients were fresh but the mozzarella was shredded and there wasn't enough basil to even out the massive amount of tomatoes. The calzones - as others have stated - are simply amazing. I only had two bites of my boyfriend's ricotta, capicola and spinach calzone and those bites alone earned the four stars. I will be back and will order my own calzone. read more

There is no better pizza. Period! I like Chicago style. I like New York style. But Toledo style tops them all! We are not local. We are from NE Ohio, and every time we travel to Michigan we stop here. The bread is awesome. I'd love to try the rest of the menu, but then I'd need to forego the pizza and I simply will not do that. The Greek is amazing! Eat one! read more
