We're from Chicago and we live amongst many great breweries, so naturally we have high expectations for breweries elsewhere. Calusa Brewing now lives in my heart. What a great place. We traveled to Siesta Key for 5 nights, and ended up and Calusa 2 of those 5 nights. The beer is top notch (I love a boozy IPA), and Pigfish (the attached restaurant) has incredible fresh food. I had the Caesar salad with Cobia both times, and quite frankly that salad is living rent free in my head. All this is to say GO TO CALUSA! I can't wait until my next trip to Siesta Key just so I Can visit this awesome brewery!! read more

What a beautiful and spacious brewery. We watched the Olympics opening day parade in Italy on their very large TV. We each tried two drafts, Siesta Squeeze, the PB stout, Rip, and Zote. All very, very tasty. Bought some home since visitors are coming from NJ! Interior reminded us a bit of Kean brewing in NJ as well as Treehouse in Mass. Will definitely return to catch some music and eat. read more

Excellent! Spacious with lots of choices of places to sit. There's a room with a big screen TV, there's an outside space , bar seating, and lots of tables. Hubby started with an Irish Red and went back and had it nitro for his second brew. He said he couldn't tell a lot of difference. I had the Boyden bottled lemonade and it was tasty. We ordered hush puppies and they were great. It's clean, it's bright, and the staff was very helpful. Loved the decor! read more

The new Calusa Brewing site is a fantastic venue. The space is much larger than the OG site one Derek Ave and has a great outdoor area as well. There also a food kitchen that is operated by Pigfish. The beer is excellent and they cover wide range of styles. They offer a nice selection of high gravity beers as well. The staff is fast in friendly. I believe Calusa Brewing is overall best beer experience in Sarasota! read more

First things first. Terrific beers!!! I had to by some cans to take home. And that's why you visit right? I did try out Pigfish restaurant while i was there. i had the tuna tacos and they weee dynamite. They aren't a regular menu items but i beg them to add it. They were that good. Sweet and heat and cubed tuna with a wonderful taco crunch to compliement. I had their steak fries too i would call them potatoes wedges though. They were perfectly tender and crispy. A good combo to compliment some tasty brews. read more

Nice brewery! Spacious, clean, decor is upscale brewery. Came here on a Saturday night and found it mostly empty, which was a bit strange. But friendly service at the bar, and delicious food. We had a few different pours including a Saison and Amber Ale, refreshing, very nice. Food seems a bit pricey until you eat it - we had the fried Cobia fish bites - wow, white, flaky, delicious, with a crispy but not oily breading and we had the garlic aioli dip. Yum! Seasoned fries were also very good. Would have that again. Look forward to coming back next time I'm in Sarasota! read more

I will start with the one negative so the review rounds out. This place is in a spot where you won't believe your GPS and likely drive past it. I did. It looks more like an industrial warehouse than a brewery and there are not a lot of clues it is a brewery outside of the "gardeny" eating space outside. To the good side? Once you get into the building and out of the parking lot, the small taproom is very warm and cozy. Great wooden bar and a handful of tables. The beer? I did not find one I disliked. My friend and I bought a couple of 4s and split them so we could have a variety, along with some of the bottled one offs. The food? They don't have any themselves, but apparently attract some really good food trucks. I will review the Clean Plate Club, who was there that day, but have included a picture of the Birria Panini they had on special that day. Yes, I will return when I visit again. read more

Went the other day with some friends. We had an incredible time. Calusa had so many beer offerings, it was hard to choose! I ultimately chose one of the stouts and then the mango cider. Such a delicious option! The bartender was extremely helpful and so nice. Also, we enjoyed going outside to find an empanada truck. On our previous visit to FL, my family took us to Calusa, as the brewery is one of their go-to spots. We enjoyed the beer variety & homey ambiance; could easily see why they enjoy being regulars. During this visit, we weren't going to have time to hang out at the brewery, but needing beer to-go figured a pit-stop to buy to-go beer would result in delicious brews versus blindly buying from a local beer store- we were right! The friendly bartenders allowed us to sample the variety of beers they offered in to-go cans, helping us to narrow our selection, but not really because each beer we were able to sample had its own unique taste, leaving me wanting to buy them all haha We opted for the Citronious (4star hazy creamy & juicy citra crispness); but also enjoyed the Zero Zero (3.5star creamy haze w.dank after bite) & Project Coffee IPA (3.5star roasty coffee forward nibs) Last visit I wished we had their beer locally in MD and now we do having brought some home! read more

The standard overpriced gastropub bar food, good quality but pricey. Service was not bad but the bartender had a prickly disposition. It was a good deal more posh/fancy than expected. We have visited the taproom in Sarasota many times, and recently tasted several of their beers at a brewfest on the east coast of Florida. Their Citronious, Zote, and Orca stand out as phenomenal brews with complex and excellent flavor profiles. Wow I am impressed. My husband wanted to check out a brewery and I for sure judged it by the outside. It didn't look like much but the inside was gorgeous!! I really enjoyed the comfortable spacious bar seating which is hard to come by in breweries. Their IPAs are top notch and the beer tenders are great. Tons of TVs for sports and so many different seating options. This place has some real potential. We have been to the other Calusa location so we knew the beer would be bomb. I did not like the food menu, it was very expensive and didn't look like brewery food. The flavors on the menu were a little of a turn off and the prices were comparable to the high end restaurants nearby so we skipped food here. It would be cool if they had a rotating food truck or something, but I know that would be a conflict of interest with a restaurant based in the brewery. Fish sandwich or a salad with chicken on it will set you back $25 each and they must specialize in various flavors of tartar sauce, like Caesar tartar sauce.. but beer... go for the beer! read more

This brewery was high on my bucket list of places to visit in Sarasota, and it did not disappoint! The staff was friendly and gave us plenty of samples. Loved the brewery cat (we only met Domino!). The taproom was smaller than I expected, given all the hype, but they also had a nice patio outside (but it was too hot that day for us!). Came to Calusa with my friend Vijay to a function for the Sarasota Social Sippers.  They are a beer tasting club.  So between all the beers they were passing around and the taps they had it was a really great time. It is a warehouse type brewery with plenty of space a good size bar and tables.  It is a nice open space.  Country music was playing the whole time I was there.  I guess around these parts country is a thing. The unfortunate part of my visit here was they don't do flights, but they will do half pours.  Even the half pours were a lot of beer.  Which meant that I got to try less beers than I wanted to.  The beers I was able to try were good. The BEER: Wildest Dreams 4 year barrel aged golden 5.5% ABV... a little sour, but good Zote new england IPA 7.5% ABV... this one is a winner! Citronious Biggest triple IPA 10% ABV... this is a star and surprisingly smooth for the high alcohol content Stormrage DIPA 8.4% ABV ... SUPER STAR.... this is the "One" This is not the kind of place I would like to spend a lot of time in, but the beer was really good.  I wouldn't mind coming back this way and sliding through for a growler fill. read more

Decent beers but the taco Tuesday was pricey! The nachos were much too salty, hope it was just someone with a heavy hand.

If you haven't tried Pigfish yet, you have to go! Lots of seating inside and out when we went on an early Saturday evening. You order beer at the bar and food at the Pigfish counter. We shared the namesake sandwich with a side of the pickled stuff and green beans. That sandwich was so delicious. Buttery bread, big piece of perfectly seasoned and cooked fish topped with pork belly and some slaw I think. Super flavorful. Kind of a mess to eat but I'm not complaining because it was worth it! I think next time I'll have them wrap it in paper and then cut it in half so it won't drip everywhere. The pickled stuff was really good too - cabbage, radish, cucumber and like a sweet green pepper if I remember correctly. Sautéed green beans were good but I probably will try the hush puppies next time. Food came out fast and was hot and fresh. Can't wait to go back and eat there again. read more

A cat greeted us at the door. I wasn't sure if it was allowed in and I tried to open the door hoping I wouldn't be yelled at for letting it romp on in. To my relief, it appeared no one cared. After we ordered our drinks, we sat down and read through the drink menu. There it was, on the first page...the cat explanation. They picked up 2 rescues and are well loved. Plenty of beer and some really nice wine. Food trucks are available after 5pm. I believe they are closed on Mondays. read more
