I had a fantastic experience with Cal's Garage Doors. Lucio, my technician, was EXCELLENT -- very knowledgeable, helpful, courteous, friendly, and good-humored. I called Cal's Garage Doors when my garage door abruptly stopped working one morning (it would only go up a foot and then stop). They were able to give me a same-day service appointment. Lucio assessed the problem and recommended that I replace the malfunctioning opener as it was 27 years old and past its expected lifespan. I agreed to the written estimate and we set a follow-up time for the installation. Lucio showed up exactly on time for the installation, and within a couple hours had the new opener up & running, and he also did a tune-up on all the other components to ensure that all was running smoothly. The new opener is soooo much better -- quiet and efficient, compared to my loud, clunky previous opener. Lucio came back the next day -- exactly when promised -- to finish troubleshooting one remaining problem with a light. Problem solved and it's all working perfectly! They came out and fixed it perfectly, charged a very reasonable price, and did not try to sell me something I didn't need. Just had Kevin from Cal's out to replace a torsion spring that had broken. Called in the morning and they were able to fit me in on the same day. My appointment window was 3-5pm and Kevin was waiting for me when I arrived home at 3pm. The original springs had lasted 14 years so rather than replace just one it is best to replace both, and the price was not that much more. Best part is Kevin replaced the old springs sprayed them with lubed along with lubricating the track wheels and was done in about 30 minutes and I was able to enjoy the rest of my day rather than wait around the house. I had used Cal's previously at my rental where the track was bent and rather than the added cost to replace the track they were able to bend it back in place for a very reasonable cost and is working great. Cal's is definitely my go-to company for garage door service and repairs. read more

We had about 3 quotes for a new garage door last August 2006, and we decided to go with Cal's Garage Doors. It was a smaller company, and seemed to be more personal. And, the price was in line, and maybe slightly "less" than the others (can't quite recall). Almost a year later, we had a slight problem with the door. We could see that it was getting loose in the middle where it was attached inside. I tried to email Cal's Garage Doors, but did not receive a reply. (maybe worth deducting a 1/2 star, if I could ;) Then, a few days later I left a message on their answering machine in the evening, and by the next morning they called back. By noon that same day... someone was over to fix the door at no charge. (It was just a pin above the door that had come loose / or out). Quick, reliable, friendly service! :) If we were to move, and needed a garage door again... we would definitely use this company again. read more

Cal's to the rescue - again! A few days ago, as I was hobbling on my broken foot out to my mom's car (okay, yes, my last review for Cal's, I had a busted knee... I'm clumsy), I closed the garage door and the bracket snapped! Argh. I don't know who originally installed the door (it was here when we moved in), but as far as I can tell, they did a terrible job. First, the spring broke, then the rails were not correct and one ended up breaking, then the opener died, and now the bracket and one of the hinges was broken! Cal's replaced the rails and opener, and when the logic board went haywire, they replaced that too! Finally, this morning (a week later), I got around to calling them. Dave answered, as usual, and was his usual helpful self. He even asked about my "phantom opener" that they fixed last time. I expected to have to wait at least a day for my appointment, but he said "I can have someone over there later this morning." I said "great!" He told me "11-1," but I wasn't sure if my son would be up from his nap, so I asked if we could make it a little later: "no problem! How about Noon?" Great! Rob showed up almost exactly at 12:00. The guys from Cal's - granted, I've only worked with Rob (2x now) and Rico over the last 4 years, have always pretty much arrived at the beginning of the time bracket. Rob was able to fix the broken hinge (the ones on the door were nylon, not metal) and the bracket in about 15 minutes, and he asked if I wanted to replace the other hinges for a nominal fee (the cost of the parts, which was less than $10 each), I figured what the heck, peace of mind for less than $50? Sure! So he replaced those, and was outta here by 12:30, even having a couple of minutes to chit-chat about my screaming high-maintenance baby (yup, the one I was preggo with last time they came out). Simply outstanding! I called around trying to find a garage door company that could tune up my garage door as soon as possibly since we were remodeling the garage and getting ready to bring our junk back in. I finally called Cal's and the girl on the phone was very helpful and was able to get me a time within the next day. The pricing was reasonable and lower then most other companies I called. The young man who showed up was on time and friendly. He started to work away and then I asked if he could also replace the weather strip on the bottom of the door and he said he would check if he had the material at the shop and let me know. He said if he did he would come back over within an hour or so. Well, he showed up in hand with the weather strip. He finished super fast and I had the rest of the day to myself. It's so refreshing when a company is so friendly and the service is done well. The guy who did the work was outstanding and the company should let him know that! I called the office and they were able to send someone out within the next couple of days, working with my schedule. During the call, I told the gentleman about my issue. He was knowledgeable and helped me discuss the various options that worked with my budget and needs. The technician, Keith, arrived within the scheduled window. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and very competent. He installed the replacement door motor efficiently, lubricated the springs, and explained the usage of the new remote. My garage door lifter arm was ripping out a chunk of fiberglass at the top of the door and it was hanging on by a thread. I called Cal's at 10 in the morning and they offered me two possible appointments that afternoon. Justin told me what they would likely have to do and gave me a very reasonable estimate. Rico came on time and got right down to business. He had the reinforcement bracket installed in maybe 10 minutes, and then charged me only 60% of my estimate - I am not kidding. Just got a replacement to my old screw drive opener. I had requested an early arrival since I had some work travel that came up unexpectedly. Kevin showed up at the stroke of 10:00 (my slot) and proceeded to very efficiently remove my old opener and install a new belt drive, DC with battery backup, Liftmaster unit. Kevin was very professional and even gave my door a 'tune up', tightening some bolts that had loosened and lubing the track wheels. Once he left, I got on the Liftmaster site and reviewed the instructions for setting up the WiFi access. This was incredibly easy and worked exactly as advertised. Our aging screw drive garage door opener had become incredibly noisy over the years. A quick Yelp search located Cal's Garage Doors nearby, with excellent reviews. I'd done a little research on available DC belt drive openers with battery backup, and happened to noticed that Cal's carried the LiftMaster range of openers. I emailed Cal's via their website to ask about the price for getting a LiftMaster 8550 installed, along with the internet gateway option - which allows you to open/close the door from anywhere via a browser or smart phone app. Dave was very quick to reply with an all-in price, which I thought was reasonable. A few days later I also dropped in to their showroom to check out the opener in person. Dave was very personable, and provided a lot of useful information about the opener I had in mind. I was able to quickly schedule an install date/time. Our installer arrived on-time and the installation was quick and well done. Again, a super friendly person from Cal's. The opener is unbelievably quiet, and I couldn't be happier with its operation and features. I'd have no problem recommending this business to anyone. read more

You can have a garage door installed by any number of companies in this area, but the products are basically the same. A few products all carried by the same stores. CUSTOMER SERVICE is what makes the difference. We had Cal's Garage Doors in Campbell install a Lift Master door in 1997. For 18 years they have maintained, repaired and replaced parts for us. Recently we needed new remotes for our door. I picked up two at their business, but had difficulty programming them. When I called, Dave made a special trip to our house after his work day and programmed all our devices for us. We had messed up everything . .all the car's remotes, etc. THEN he drove back to his store and CAME BACK TO OUR HOUSE with a remote he thought we would prefer. All this without charge or complaint. Wow, this guys are outstanding. I needed to replace my old garage door, with same model. They beat Home Depot on material cost by about $450 bucks, AND the installed a BETTER model AND hauled away old materials, AND re-installed openers, sensors, the works. If I bought the LOWER model from H.D. I'd have $450 more in materials, still have to pay somebody maybe $500 to install AND have to pay maybe $150 to have the old one hauled away. Overall savings was about $1,100 bucks! You just can't beat that. read more

Had problems with my garage door. I called Cal's Garage Door and the entire process for getting it fixed could not have gone better from the first phone call through opener installation. They came out for an initial inspection and determined what the problem was. They did not charge for that. We agreed to replace the opener a couple of days later. I was told that the installer would call before he arrived which he did and he quickly installed the new opener and adjusted the springs. My husband made a call to Cal's garage doors to get a price quote because they had great reviews. The lady on the phone quoted only $40 to come and look at what the problem was and diagnose. They offered this great price because they're giving our grandpa the senior discount. So, we decided hey that's a great price. Little did we know they would come an hour late. That was the first upset. Then, when the man came he opened the garage and sprayed some lube on it and it worked. We have two garage doors and he only sprayed the one that wasn't working. If I would have known we would be paying $79 just for him to spray lube, I would have went with another company. If you go through this company make sure to get the full details on what you will be paying exactly. Some of the examples, they will analyze the pros and cons of various brands for customer's consideration and make their suggestion and recommendation for quality vs cost. Many times if they found they themselves are not totally satisfied on their job, they will come back for FREE for additional work, including replacing with FREE optimized parts, example: offer resized rollup garage door panel for best fit. For such kind of situations, if the contractors do not mention, the customers will be hard to detect themselves. I have never written a review for them. Yesterday afternoon we found we couldn't open our garage door. We disengaged the door from the motor and still couldn't get the door opened. In May I called Cals Garage door to come out and service my unit. The display panel had a message that my unit needed servicing. The guy came, very nice, charged me $90 to squirt some oil on the door and tighten a few nuts. He could not however turn off the message on the display. Now in Aug. my message display tells me I need a new battery and the unit is beeping, so I called Cal's again. The very rude Diane that answered the phone told me she could not guarantee that the service technician could turn off the display this time, but they could replace the batter and stop the beeping. Then she said since she could not guarantee that they could stop the error message not the display I should call someone else! So I will. I talked to Dave on the phone and he was able to diagnose the likely problem based on my description. He was also able to figure out which model of Genie garage door opener I had by asking a few questions. He knows his stuff.
