When instructors frequently change, there seems to be very little continuity or understanding of where a child stands, what they have already mastered, and what they specifically need to work on next. My daughter has now been at essentially the same point for about two quarters, and I have seen very little effort to identify what is holding her back or provide the focused coaching she needs to progress. What was even more disappointing was my interaction with the manager. I approached him hoping to discuss my concerns about a particular lesson. Before I could even fully explain what I had observed, his immediate response was, "Oh, that one is our best instructor." Whether an instructor is considered one of the best was not the point of my concern. My concern was what was actually happening during my daughter's lesson. The instructor appeared unable to give adequate attention to three children in the class, and I observed very little instruction, correction, or specific guidance being given to my daughter to help her improve. As a parent, I wasn't looking for the manager to defend or criticize an instructor. I was looking for him to listen, understand the concern, and offer a solution. Unfortunately, I walked away without any resolution, follow-up, or offer of help. After three years of loyalty, this is incredibly frustrating. Parents bring their children to swim lessons expecting more than supervision in the pool. We expect active coaching, feedback, consistency, and measurable development. I sincerely hope American Swim Academy takes concerns like these seriously and focuses on better continuity between instructors, individualized coaching, and stronger accountability for each child's progress. Most importantly, when a parent raises a genuine concern, I hope management takes the time to listen before dismissing it.

We have only been to 8 classes the past 1.5 months, they terminated my kid's lessons due to safety reasons with no prior warnings what-so-ever. They said he runs around the pool (this has improved), he jumps on chairs (well, he stims, as many other ASD kiddies do) which I correct him every time and keep close eye on him at all times, he runs in the parking lot, this happened one time, and I watch him as he runs to the waiting area and there is no moving cars around. During the last class, in last 5 minutes, he was just done and wanted to get out, out of frustration he smacked her (instructor) in the face and head butted her. I was horrified because this is truly out of character and I apologized to her, she responded "it's not my first rodeo.' I was completely caught off guard when the owner called me to terminate our lessons with no prior warnings or if he does this again, we will have to terminate 2 days before the next lesson. I know autistic kiddos can be difficult at times, but don't preach what you don't practice. They could have told me that the head butting cannot happen again and I would 100% understand because I agree, this cannot happen again. I do not appreciate the lack of communication here. While my child did not behave perfectly, it would be nice to get a warning which you did once regarding running around the pool that I have corrected since the conversation. This is NOT how you do business. I highly against recommending enrolling your kids there - it is unprofessional and rude and I am deeply offended by their action. Again, DO NOT PREACH WHAT YOU DON'T PRACTICE. Thankfully, Camille and Tania were great, otherwise, this place is highly unprofessional.

A couple of suggestions. Read the rules. It is clear that outside food or drink are not allowed. Neither are street clothes, as they are a safety hazard in public or shared pools. If people sneak stuff in without the staff knowing, then that is on them. I have seen people be asked to leave for sneaking alcohol in. I have never seen the staff there demand anyone throw anything away. They offer to let you walk it back to your car. Again, had you read the rules, you would have known this. In order to keep facilities like these affordable, the rules must be enforced. The insurance rates will sky rocket when there are claims because someone got hurt by a drunk patron. I used to work in Government, and this is the case with all facilities. Also, the wave has a lot of young people working there in their first job. They are learning how to work and be adults, show them some kindness. Lastly, please take an English class. As a Hispanic, I have worked hard to overcome people's negative viewpoints about us being uneducated and ignorant. Your review doesn't help in that regard.

First time visiting this pool with some friends and kids on a weekend. There's a huge parking lot…read moreright outside the pool, which is very convenient. The parking signs were a little confusing because they say "pool permit parking only," but I later found out that this only applies on weekdays. $8 admission is a pretty good deal, although there's an additional service fee when paying by credit card. The front desk didn't mention the fee, and I only noticed it after reading a sign off to the side of the desk. The changing room was clean and tidy, with hot showers and plenty of lockers. There aren't individual changing stalls, though, and the bathroom is located inside the changing room. The kids' pool is probably the highlight. It's very shallow and perfect for little kids, with water slides, a play structure, and a big bucket that fills up and dumps water over everyone. The kids had a lot of fun waiting for it. The main pool has a dedicated lap-swimming section and a shallower area around 4 feet deep where people can hang out. The deep end has an inflatable obstacle course that looks like an American Ninja Warrior-style setup, along with diving boards at different heights. My biggest issue was the very strict lifeguard monitoring. They were watching the pool extremely closely, with whistles ready to go at any moment. During our three-hour visit, I saw multiple parents and kids being spoken to by lifeguards. I was also approached for having a small child on my back in the shallow section. I was standing comfortably in the water, but I was told not to carry the child that way. What confused me was that I was allowed to carry the same child in front of me, but not on my back. I understand the lifeguards have to enforce safety rules, but I wasn't clear on the difference or what additional safety concern the back carry presented. Overall, I appreciate having lifeguards who are attentive and focused on safety, especially with so many kids around. However, during our visit, it sometimes felt like I was being watched the entire time and had to walk on eggshells. The facilities are clean, the kids' pool is fun, there's plenty to do, and $8 is a reasonable price. Would I come back? Maybe 50/50. It's a good community pool, but the very strict enforcement made the experience a little less relaxing for me. ‍

We've been to Dublin Wave and Larkey Swim Center but I think San Ramon Aquatic Park takes the cake: 1. Low entry fee of $8/pp. Big, clean family room for changing along with showers. 2. The main splash pad is a sight to behold. They have this gigantic bucket that gets filled with water pumped from the main pool. It rocks back and forth like a slow bell, signaling impeding doom. Eventually, the bucket tips over and drenched everything and everyone below. It never gets old watching this. 3. They have separate pools for diving, lap swimming, and one with a gigantic inflatable structure that looks like an obstacle course from American Ninja, only above a big pool. As for minor downsides: 1. Limited places to sit around the perimeter. Its crowded here and many folks set out blankets for picnics. 2 Despite a pretty big parking lot, it does get busy so you may need to park a bit farther.

Despite his childlike teaching style, he consistently sets firm expectations and provides gentle feedback when needed that foster motivation and encourage kids to do their best, truly maximizing every minute of a short swim lesson. My family recently moved into the neighborhood. We saw a crane trimming a large tree one morning and drove around the neighborhood to look. When we realized it was through Patti's Swim School, we started talking about possibly enrolling our two young children. The gate was open. The wide driveway and parking area looked like the entrance to a business, and we didn't see anything at the entrance saying "Private Property," "No Trespassing," "Appointment Required" or "Enrolled Families Only." We stopped near the gate and began talking to the neighboring property owner. A man named Michael came outside, told us not to speak with her and ordered us to leave because we were trespassing. His tone and manner felt very aggressive and confrontational. The neighbor disagreed with him and said the area was a public or shared-access easement. We had no idea there was apparently some kind of dispute between them. I can't say who was legally right about the easement, and we weren't there to take sides. Michael told us to leave, so we left. I was very angry afterward, but our realtor told me Patti's a reasonable person and that I shouldn't judge the whole school based on one interaction with Michael. I thought that was fair. I waited a day to cool down and emailed Patti directly. I told her what happened and asked three basic questions: Who is Michael? Does he represent the school? Does she think the way he handled the situation was appropriate? She didn't answer any of them. Instead, Patti compared what we did to parking in someone's driveway and walking into their backyard. I don't think that's a fair comparison at all. We drove through the open gate of an operating business and stayed in what looked like its entrance and parking area. We didn't enter anyone's house or backyard. Of course Patti has the right to control access to her property. We left as soon as we were told to leave. But if nobody's able to enter without being enrolled or having an appointment, that should be clear at the entrance. Patti claimed there were signs around the property saying people couldn't enter unless enrolled. I later took photos from the road and still couldn't find that warning at the entrance. What I did see was a small "Welcome to Patti's Swim School" sign. Her email concluded, "I'm sorry if you took offense," and then informed us that the school had a waiting list and couldn't accommodate our children anyway. That doesn't seem like an apology to me. The waiting-list comment felt like an unnecessary, condescending jab. I made a point of not judging Patti's Swim School based only on Michael. I cooled down, contacted Patti privately and gave her a chance to address it. Her response is what ultimately made the decision for me. Again, I can't speak to the quality of the swimming lessons. I can only say that after this interaction and Patti's response, I wouldn't have the trust needed to leave my children in their care. Aman coordinated well with us, giving me a list of parents who signed the birthday waiver. We were able to get mostly everyone signed up in advance. Many of our guests thanked us for giving them a great trial session. The lobby area is L-shaped, so we set up food and tables in the front and organized toddler activities for the little ones who were too young to join the class. There's a kids table with magna-tiles at the front, so the little ones were kept busy the entire time. Parents and littles can eat first while kids are in the class. It makes the birthday less hectic. At the end, we forgot our lighter for the birthday candle, but Aman saved the day. My daughter had such a wonderful 5th birthday, and the photos staged in the gym area at the end really just topped things off. The instructors are very gentle and have such great patience with the kids. My child was traumatized from a gymnastics coach who had too much of a militaristic style. She's still in the process of finding her confidence, but she's thriving.
