Mr. Justin at the Hayward location took on the challenge of helping my son overcome his fear of water. At the end of our time with Mr. Justin, my son was able to push off the edge, kick, blow bubbles, and roll over on his back a lot better than before. We are grateful for Mr. Justin's training!

While I can't in good faith give them back a full 5-star review, I have to say that the damage control support was greatly appreciated. We were personally reached out to by their regional manager to see how they could support us through our frustrations and went ABOVE AND BEYOND :) to make sure our kiddo got the support he needed at his next class and applause applause he finally leveled up. And not because of several customer service complaints and the barrage of Yelp reviews, but because he really was ready to level up and just needed the supportive environment to make it happen. Some pro tips for future or current parents of swimmers: 1) Call customer service any time; they truly do take all of your feedback seriously. 2) Familiarize yourself with the online portal, it is actually really convenient to use when it comes to scheduling. 3) You CAN request a swim manager come shadow your instructor in your child's class if you feel like they need more support! It was the game changer for us. 4) Learn about who all the instructors are if yours is ever called out sick, there are others you can try to schedule with to makeup for it. I wish I was given this information when we started like two-ish years ago but I guess better late than never. My kid is so proud of himself for finally getting his next ribbon and he said he thinks he can easily get to the next level now -- and this is coming from someone who was terrified for the first year!

In regard to Lap Swimming…read more Hours are pretty flexible. About twenty lanes with the first part of the pool set for those who water walk and about 16 to 17 lanes to lap swim. Depending on the time of the day, some lanes close, for water classes. Be weary, if you go first thing when they open at 6am, and also when they reopen at 4pm or 5pm. There are groups of people that call themselves "The Regulars". A few of them like to put kickboards on open lanes to save for people in line behind you. Sometimes, if there is a long line on a hot summer day. A "Regular" might show up and just cut to the front of the line outside with another "regular" who is there already. Some of these people can be rude and really like their specific lane. And will throw a fit if you happen to take their lane. Some of these "regulars" will even lie and come up with a sob story for you about their past injuries, just to get a specific lane. The staff have not really monitored/enforced certain rules in the past. Hopefully that changes. You have been warned. The "regulars" are nice, as long as you don't get their lane or get in line ahead of them. Some will even show up 1 to 3 hours before the pool opens in the morning and afternoon in order to get their lane. They mean business and can be cutthroat. The place has a lot of potential. Cosmetic wise, it's what you'd expect of a facility that's almost a 100 years old.

For the price you pay for rec swim and toddler swim you can't find a better deal in the East Bay!…read moreWe come to this pool the most frequently out of the 3 indoor public pools in the area, the others being Dublin Wave and Silliman Aquatic center in Newark. Great hours for toddler swim, 11am to 1pm Monday thru Friday and 5 to 7pm Tues, Thursday, Friday. There is also rec swim kn Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30pm. The toddler pool is great for toddlers to get used to the water and there is a depth gradient that will allow them to explore and eventually try to swim. There are also toys provided by the staff for the little ones to play with in the pool. The staff here have always been very nice to us and you can tell that the lifeguards on shift take their jobs seriously. Yes, the facility is almost 100 years old and does show its age, but for $5 total for a baby and an adult as well as the super flexible hours? You just can't beat that deal.

As the bucket slowly fills, the anticipation builds... then the bell sounds right before it dumps, sending all the kids running over to get splashed. It was so fun watching the excitement and laughter every time it tipped. A great spot for little ones to cool off and burn energy!

A staff member yelled out that they won't be allowing anyone in once they hit max capacity. Understood. We get inside. The staff members (more like immature teens) screamed at adults and kids when someone ran. While I understand the importance of safety, the way they were yelling at kids/adults to walk felt harsh and unprofessional. It created a tense and uncomfortable environment, especially when it could have been handled more calmly and respectfully. All the teenage lifeguards screamed in sync, literally all at once screaming at them to walk!!!!!!! It was like we were in bootcamp. Then, as the day went on, we still had an hour and a half left, someone had an accident in the pool (a child pooped), the lifeguards screamed at everyone to get out. While quick evacuation is understandable in that situation, the reaction was over-the-top. We all definitely came out right away. What made it worse was that the lifeguards were celebrating afterward saying "F*CK YES!!" And laughing and excited because they got to leave early since they had to close the pool. It felt beyond unprofessional and insensitive to the families who paid to be there. If these kids hate their job, please do us all a favor and quit your job. To top it off, we were all told to leave the premises entirely, even though many of us, including my family, still had children eating. It was abrupt and handled poorly, with no consideration for those trying to wrap up their visit responsibly, we even still had an hour and a half left. I hope management can provide better training on how to communicate with children in a way that is firm but respectful. It's important to keep everyone safe, but how it's done matters just as much. On top of that, if there's a scheduled large group, they should have a better approach rather than having families with small children wait outside in the heat outside.
