I ordered takeout here on Friday night after a friend recommended their tortilla soup for sick sickness. I also got the toritos, which are a must whenever I see them on a menu. My husband got quesabirria tacos. He can be kind of partial about quesabirria but he actually liked these, so they must've been good. I am a tortilla soup lover, and have been on the search for one similar to one at the old restaurant Terra Cotta, since forever. I've yet to find a really good one. I will say, this one was pretty good, and I would order it again, though I think the chicken could be more flavorful. It's a large container they give you, and the chunks of chicken were also pretty large. I did break them into smaller pieces myself. The Toritos were 10/10 , no notes! read more

I recently had dinner here with a friend. It was a first time for both of us. I had a chicken adobada bowl ($16), basically a green salad with some chunks of hot chicken added. It was OK, but my friend, who ordered three things, thought that all of them were bland. The atmosphere is nice. Service is order at the counter, they give you a number, and somebody brings your food out. There is a good salsa bar. Prices are kind of high for a place without table service. Tucker in a strip center this place will wow you with their scrumptious food and delicious drinks. Service was great and the place was very busy on a Saturday afternoon even the patio was packed. This place is a no for me. People have been telling me to try it and honestly the only reason that I'm giving a 3 is because the service was good. The people were super nice and attentive and even let us use a birthday picture prop. But the food was not good. You could tell that it was all already made and just warmed up. The chips for the salsa bar were an additional charge and none of the salsas were actually good. The set up is also a little strange. The back by the bar is more of like a true restaurant style and the front is a walk up order and then seat yourself. Went in for happy hour on a Friday night about an hour before it ended. The service was excellent -- we had two different servers checking on us outside multiple times, and they even came out to let us know happy hour was ending in case we wanted to order anything else before it was over. Jose helped us and he was very attentive and came with some great recommendations. We tried a little bit of everything: Manchego carne asada tacos were a solid choice. Our first time here, and there was a large group on the front patio and another large group inside the dining area. Fortunately, a server told us there was seating available in the bar area in back. Once there, we promptly received chips and directions to the salsa bar, which had many flavorful choices from mild to hot hot hot. The margaritas and horchata we ordered arrived quickly. The margs were tasty and strong. The menu has lots of options, including several veggie ones. We were there for tacos, and diners may choose street or TEPA style (lettuce, pico, queso fresca). We didn't see a server again for a bit, so we asked the bartender if he could take our order. He was super friendly, took our order, and had food in front of us in no more than 10 minutes. My partner and I ordered the 2 taco combo with grilled shrimp tacos TEPA style. The tacos were amply filled with shrimp that was cooked perfectly, and just enough lettuce and pico. I would have liked a bit more cheese. The soft shell also was a bit thicker than I prefer. The side portions also were ample. The rice was tasty with some chopped peppers, and the beans were good. Once we were done, we flagged a server down for our check and found an "extra" beverage. Our server fixed that quickly and updated the rest of the ticket to reflect happy hour prices. We have eaten here several times but actually took photos this time. Every time the food has been consistent and good flavor. They have a full service dinning and bar in back and quick service in front. The food is Sonoran with a mild red and mild green sauce available for the enchiladas and similar items. The menu is extensive with various meats available as enchiladas, tortas, tacos, salads, burritos, and quesadillas. You can get rice, beans, and eggs as additions. This time we got shredded beef rojo enchiladas with rice and beans, and chicken chiliquiles with ranchero sauce, eggs, and beans. Both dishes were solid with good flavor and tender meat. The beans were creamy and not salty and worked with the rest of the dishes. The salsas were delicious, ranging from hot to mild, with some green and smoky options. The chips had a nice fry and were not oily meaning the fry oil was not old and had the correct temperature. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although we sat in the quick service section, they were still attentive. Thus, everything was solid and the prices were very reasonable making it a great place for a solid and reliable Sonoran Mexican meal. read more

Came by here for lunch about a week ago. When you walk in it looks similar to many places where you line up get your food and then go sit down. Well it is that sort of place and more. If you go beyond the front ordering and dining areas there is a full service area and bar in the back. The menu has quite a few choices. Some of them are more unique street foods than others such as the Manchegos. Others are more common such as the mini chimis and enchiladas. The menu consists of everything from enchiladas to Sonoran hotdogs. Taco bowls, burritos bowls, or not. Ceviche. Soup. Salad. Veggie combos. You get the idea. Here you have choices. Lots of choices! We ordered the manchegos and the green corn tamale plates. We chose the black beans and Spanish rice. But we could have had refried, or ranchero beans or Veracruz rice. The portions were huge. The plate had 4 manchegos and a separate plate with rice and beans. It also had guacamole and sour cream. I didn't taste the manchegos but my companion ate two and was so thrilled with them that she wanted to place an order to go and take some back to share. It really did look good. The tamale plate consisted of two green corn tamales rice and beans. These green corn tamales were so good they were creamy, pleasantly sweet and just oh so good. The best I've had in a while. The rice was flavorful and the beans done right. The drink menu is as extensive as the food menu. Everything from sodas to lemonades. Horchata. Wine, mixed drinks. Margaritas! I tried the mangorita. Yummm!!! The dessert menu consists of flan, sopapillas, or churros. Like the entrees there is plenty served on the dessert plates to share. No disappointments here. You won't walk away wanting here. I'd be shocked if you don't have leftovers. Service is quick and friendly. My companion wanted to go back just two days later. Writing this makes me wish I had gone back for more. I'm sad they are clearly across town from where I live. I know I will go again in the future. Oh and did I mention. They also have happy hour, every day from 3 to 6. Fresh! Everything tastes fresh! Great presentation on everything. You know, when you get your sides of beans and rice at some places, it's just glopped on a plate? Even the sides here are presented nicely. The tacos are made and served in these taco trays, which make it easier to eat. My wife and I ordered the two taco combo, she with carne asada and chicken adobo, and I with barbacoa and chicken adobada, all tepa style (pico, cabbage, and queso fresca). We opted for corn tortillas. All was very good. The adobada was a bit too spicy for me, though. They pack the tacos with a lot of meat. The corn tortillas were impressive as they didn't break down. The interior deco is kind of cool. They have outdoor patios in front and back. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. The best sonoran dogs I've had in Tucson. The bun they're served on is FAR superior to anything else I've tasted. The margaritas were excellent, and we really loved the jalapeno marg with chamoy and tajin. 10/10 would recommend. Worth every penny. We will be back!! read more
