Over the years, I've had other handymen pass on the project. I had a handyman who was able to fill the rotted areas with wood filler, sand it, and restain it. I've even had a gate company tell me that they could not save the gate; it would need to be completely replaced. Bill was able to cut out the rotted pieces of wood, replace them, and restain the whole gate (he also repainted the decorative hardware on the door as well). Moreover, he discussed the project with a buddy of his and they determined that the gate was sitting over a muddy part of landscaping which is probably what facilitated the deterioration of the wood. We found some leftover pavers in our storage shed and Bill extended the pavers so the gate would sit over pavers instead of mud. Before he embarked on the wood gate repair, Bill also installed a valance/shade over a window. He made the necessary calculations to ensure that the valance/shade would be centered on the wall and window. He also made sure that the valence was leveled. Jose and the team spent essentially the entire day diagnosing and remediating the problem. They performed drain scoping, hydro jetting, extensive root removal, repaired damaged sections of the main drain line with PVC, added new drains/catch basins, restored drainage flow, and repaired/cleaned up the surrounding area afterward. COVID put the person I always used in the past, so I searched for someone new. When Thomas came out, he listened to me and explained why I didn't need that service. He explained how each clump of blades is an individual plant, taking tens of thousands of plants to make up my yard. We even discussed where Bermuda grass was slowly taking over in one area of the yard. Because of his knowledge and how he explained things, I decided to give him a chance to do what he suggested. Power seed and fertilize, followed by a fertilization and soil treatment one month later. For the price, I thought if it worked, it was a good value, and if it didn't, I would find someone to aerate in the fall. I can not be happier. The Bermuda grass area has shrunk over ninety percent in three months. The lawn is thicker than I ever had it in the past, and I will admit greener than I would get, and I took pride in how green my grass stayed. The long stretch is what I call the dog run. My eighty-pound German Shepherd and I run up and back along this stretch of grass during two daily play sessions (morning and afternoon). The other photo is a patch of grass with minimal traffic unless we have a party with kids. Ginger is trained not to tinkle on any of the grass;) I say in closing, in a light-spirited manner, give Thomas a call because the grass is greener, thicker, and healthier on my side of the fence neighbor:).
