i've been coming to calitea for years, and it's still one of my go-to spots whenever i'm craving boba or something sweet. today i got the cold brew with coffee jelly and no ice. the coffee jelly added a nice texture, and i never add ice to my drinks because i don't want them diluted. my other favorites here are the cali milk tea, the rooibos milk tea, and the chocolate frappe. nobody talks about the rooibos enough. it's a great caffeine-free option! the shop and restrooms are always clean, and the staff are sweet. prices are reasonable too. parking in Marina Village is easy since there are usually plenty of open spaces. read more

Also the boba here was not fresh as it's your typical blacks pearls and super hard when we got our drink. Although it isn't the biggest place it was clean and modern looking. One thing that stood out to me was the tea machine. We've been a few times, my daughter loves the #2 brown sugar boba milk tea. Today I tried the mocha frappe for the first time. What I like most is that it's always quiet with no line, the prices are fair, and the service is quick. My daughter really enjoys the milk tea and boba, but the frappe didn't have much mocha flavor, it was just okay and I wouldn't get it again. Ran into this little quaint coffee/tea shop as I thought Starbucks across the street in vons had some seating to study. but finding out they didn't! Then behold, CaliTea a hole in the wall from outside, but inside withholds a clean and simple interior. Got my notorious cold brew, and this is absolutely fantastic. I started my birthday week off right by coming to have tea here in the afternoon today! It's across the street from Marina High School and I happened to come by after the lunch rush, so I was the only one in the shop when I stopped by. I placed my order ahead of time and the barista asked me how long it would be until I arrived so that the drinks would be sitting for the least amount of time. I appreciated her asking this question because nobody likes watery tea or lemonade! We were right around the corner, so it only took us about 5 minutes to roll right over. When I walked in, the barista removed my order from a fridge and rang me up. A little over $10 for (2) 16 oz drinks, not bad at all. The coffee & tea shop is a little on the small side and has 3 tables inside - (2) 4 chair tables and a (2) chair table, too. I really loved the ambiance and feel inside the coffee shop because of the gorgeous large mural on the wall when you first walk in. It's perfect for showing off your pretty drink selections! I liked that the matcha latte could be customized to be made with almond milk and really liked the flavor of it - it was less sugary than most places and you could taste the flavor of the matcha. The strawberry lemonade was for my mom and she said she really enjoyed it and that's she's looking forward to coming back and having the lemonade again in the future or trying something new. As for me, I'm looking forward to coming back and having their matcha latte again or maybe their matcha frappacino instead. I am glad that i started my birthday week off by coming here for my matcha latte and look forward to coming back here soon, especially since it's a couple of miles from my house. read more

Luckily for me, it wasn't as crowded as the other review I was reading. Our order did take a solid 10 minutes, though. I'm not holding too much against the place, sometimes staffing issues cannot be helped. Unfortunately, we ordered two bobas, and took maybe three sips from each. We were extremely unimpressed with our drinks, and I take no pleasure in saying that they went in the trash not long after. I bookmarked this place for the boba but ended up loving their smoothie! Oolong Milk Tea (~$5) - the quality of the tea is apparent at first sip. The boba was great and comparable to other boba shops. Lava Flow smoothie (~$6) - so tasty and what I would want to drink on a hot day. This is still one of my favorite places for oolong milk tea but my recent visits have been inconsistent quality wise. I ordered an Avocado Smoothie and Roasted Oolong Milk Tea with boba. Avocado smoothie wasn't bad but adding boba to it was not the move. In general the boba quality on this day was bad. The boba was more firm and harder to chew instead of the perfect soft and chewy texture I've experienced before. Also I don't know if I'm crazy but it seemed like they used a smaller boba pearl than before which I'm not a fan of. The last few times the boba itself had a grainy texture which I assume is grains of brown sugar. Not really a texture that I want to experience while drinking because it feels like sand in between my teeth. I was also not a fan of the use of a physical lid instead of the normal sealed boba cup film. The lid on the avocado smoothie did not seem to fit the cup well so when I went to pick up the drink, the lid was coming off which almost made me spill it in the car. I also decided to order my roasted oolong 50% sweet since 75% was still a bit too sweet last time. 50% was almost perfect but just a little bit not sweet enough. I'm hoping the boba quality was just a mistake for that day only because I would like to keep on getting drinks from here as long as I know the quality will be good. read more

I'm really sad because when my husband and I found this place we thought we hit gold. The last two days (today and yesterday) there's been two different young girls working there who have no idea what they're doing. Both days our drinks have sucked, and have been wrong. I ordered a simple iced white mocha latte to make it easy today and not only was the entire glass milk but there was 0 coffee in this. They really do need more training for these two younger girls before they're left on their own. Very bummed.
