We broke ground on our pool about one year ago. Ryan and his team from California Pools were so accommodating every step of the way - from being flexible with timing due to busy schedules to answering texts at night, on the weekends, and sometimes, even on the holidays. The design process was amazing and they knew when to give their opinions and when to pull back. There were so many options to choose from but they helped guide us in terms of budget and aesthetic. Each of the team members for each part of the design was knowledgeable and were very transparent with costs and totals. They also shared customer reviews and choices regarding each of the choices as well. The building process, as with any home renovation, was tedious and seemed longer than it should have taken but they reassured us regarding timeline and kept us updated as they made progress. They did a great job keeping the mess and mud to the backyard and maintained the integrity of our pavers that were also newly installed - as we had requested. They let us know when knew teams of builders were coming and what to expect next. Almost 100% of the time, they met their proposed deadline for each stage of the building process. We loved knowing what to expect and seeing it actually happen! I am giving them 5 stars because we have not regretted the installation of our pool one bit. It has literally transformed our backyard and figuratively transformed our lives - especially this past summer. However, I would maybe take a half-star off because of the inspector process. It was revealed to us later that we had failed a few inspections that were not communicated with us. The rules, laws, and regulations are a hard landscape to navigate and we felt very under-educated about all of them as we went through the process. I would have loved to have known more about the inspection process and requirements because that seemed to have taken the longest. Our pool was ready but we couldn't go in yet due to one reason or another. Overall, the decision to go with California Pools was an easy and one that I would not have changed. We talked to a few pool contractors before starting our backyard project, and chose to work with California Pools for two main reasons - 1. we really liked the in-office design and consultation, as well as meeting some of the team face to face, and 2. they said that, unless we choose to change something, the quote is the quote - no surprises. We had a very complicated backyard demo and there were some hidden surprises in our yard that came up during the demo. Ryan V. and California Pools were 100% true to their word and didn't come back and ask for more money, unless we did something out of the original project scope. Also, despite an extremely wet winter and long demo, they finished our full backyard quickly. They called for inspections as soon as a stage was complete, and coordinated the various teams extremely efficiently. Most importantly for us, their communication was amazing. We had asked to be "extra informed" about the process, and they were great with that. The whole team was a pleasure to work with. We had a phone call early on with Ryan V. where he was very thoughtful, understanding, and professional. We also have to give an extra shout out to Ryan S., our project manager. Every time I called or texted with an urgent question, he immediately responded. He is extremely knowledgable and professional, and also very friendly and patient. We put in a new pool, spa, firepit and turf with California Pools, and our backyard came out even better than we could have imagined. California Pools started our pool installation in November 2022 and had it completed in February 2023, beating their promised schedule by about 2 months. It was a great experience overall. We had other companies bid the project, but we chose California Pools based on how they developed the project and how up front they were about expectations. Ryan V. did a great job coaching us and explaining how the project would come together, and provided expert opinions on function and design. His pricing was very competitive with other bids we had gotten. They also include engineering and permitting costs, which we found to be rare. Their contract was simple and honest, and their payment milestones were fair. It was honestly an easy choice. The best part of the experience, however, was dealing with Ryan S and Micah, the field management side of the team. Those two consistently communicated and went the extra mile over and over. I find word of mouth referrals from trusted personal sources to be the most reliable and this certainly proved to be the case with California Pools, with whom we contracted to handle our build. Every step of our six-month project, from the initial in-office consultation with the owner/team, design, permits, materials selection and HOA approval through demo, excavation, plumbing, electrical and masonry...all of it...was without setbacks or drama. California Pools and its excellent team became more than simply a company I hired; they quickly became partners in helping transform our yard. The contract and payment schedule (as stages of the work was completed) were clearly spelled out.
